Hi Joel, I'm from Brazil and a big fan of yours. It fills me with joy to see people from other places reading our works, and mostly our more recent works. Whenever I see creators reading brazilian literature it's usually classic, like Machado de Assis, and don't get me wrong he's great, but also is Vitor. And I'm really happy to see him getting the recognition he deserves from all over the world. You are going to love his new book can wait for you to read it!!
On earth we’re brief,h gorgeous is my favourite book of all time, it’s SO GOOD! read some of his other poetry books if you like it! He also has time is a mother coming out this year
Omg as a brazilian I was SO delighted to see a book from a brazilian authour in your video :) vitor also used to be a really popular booktuber here and it makes me really proud to see him taking huge steps as a writer. Anyways, great video as always!
Omggg I NEVER see Brazilian authors (specially contemporary ones) in international book channel and so seeing you reading and liking Vitor Martins really put a smile on my face! I’m Brazilian and I adore your channel!! Looking forward to see you reading more romances this year, it’s my favorite genre!!
“I really want to write an academic essay on Riordan’s writing.” As someone who wrote their MA Thesis on the series I am so so curious about what you’d pick up from the series and about your ideas and comments on it !! If you ever do write that essay I really hope it will be available for others to read !! 🙈 As per usual, I love your work and comments, thank you for making all those sweet and soothing videos 🥺
Ace of Spades is my next pick before January ends😍 Also, I always thought I won’t enjoy anything by Rooney but I’ve recently changed my mind and Normal People is the first book I want to try. I’m SO EXCITED to see whether or not I’d like it!
ace of spades blew my mind. Percy Jackson began as bedtime stories for Rick Riordan's sons and you can feel the heart it it. Portrait of a thief sounds amazing. I kind of want to go back to the British museum and walk around going " stolen ! stolen! Everything is Stolen ! " and see how long it takes security to show. I need to wait for it to be safer to fly though and travel internationally.
I absolutely loved Ace of Spades and Me, My Dad and the End of the Rainbow! Also - The Whole Picture sounds like essential reading and has gone straight onto my tbr - thank you!
yayyyy! more Percy Jackson rep (: I think a lot of people avoid reading Rick Riordan books because they're commonly found in the children section. However, I think the plot and characters are so well-done. You become quite attached to the characters and love to see their growth or downfall.
My top 3 favorite books of 2021: 1. On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong 2. The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune 3. Starfish by Akemi Dawn Bowman
i read the house of hades the day it came out when i was 10. i made my dad drive me to barnes and noble the moment the store opened before school and i was reading every time i had a break during class. i literally started crying in math class during *that* nico scene. genuinely one of my favorite books of all time, it came to me at the exact moment i needed it
Hello! Could you review the Lore of HID&GEM / Lore of HDnG? It's a wiki style read with very deep storyline, the fanbases would be super excited to see new reviews and video essays!!!!!!!!
I’ve read all of Jasmine Guillory’s books in 2021 and quickly has become one of my fave authors. Also 2/3 of Rachel Lippincott’s books I’ve also read in 2021 and she has become one of my fave. Lastly, after reading ‘The Summer Job’ by Lizzy Dent she may become another fave bc that book was so adorable!
I'm so on the fence with Malibu Rising. I loved Evelyn Hugo but I've seen so many mixed reviews for Malibu Rising. I'll have to think about it more. I keep going back and forth with Percy Jackson too. I feel like I'm too old (28) to read and enjoy it but I also really want to read such a widely beloved series. In all reality, I'll probably wait until my son is older and read it to him like a few other books I plan to read to him while reading it for the first time.
That reminder to drink water was actually really helpful. I've been really bad about that lately (idk what happened, I used to be obsessed with drinking water) so I immediately got up and got a glass of water. Thanks, Joel!
I am writing down so many books, Joel. Thank you so much for being so insightful! And yes...I haven't read Rick Riordan yet. Definitely going to my list! Thank you very much for creating this space.
ahhhh i’ve been waiting for this video!!! ace of shades, malibu rising, and the vanishing half were all impeccable and on my favs of the year as well. As a member of the nico di angelo protection squad since 2016, I loved seeing you fall in love with the riordanverse this year! some of my other favs of the year were house on the cerulean sea, song of achilles, she drives me crazy, yolk, concrete rose, the poppy war, heartstopper, and chain of iron
I love that there are two Rick Riordans books are on here! I love his books too and I've just purchased the Percy Jackson books so I can reread them, I just had to own them so I don't have to wait for them to be available at my library
So refreshing to see a male book lover! Allow me to recommend three titles to possibly add to your collection: (1) BITTER WITH THE SWEET (2) THE HIGH PRICE OF A GOOD MAN (3) THINGS I NEVER TOLD/ all by author Debra Phillips / on Amazon
I really recommend King Leopold's Ghost, by Adam Hochschild. It depicts the Belgian rule in and colonising of the Kongo around 1900. Non-fiction. Gruesome read but important.
YES to Normal People! Some of my faves from 2021 were Anxious People by Fredrik Backman, If Beale Street Could Talk by James Baldwin and Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami 💛 Also, I need to read The Song of Achilles asap.
i only just subscribed but i’ve fallen in love with your channel!!! you’ve helped me get back into reading again and i am soo grateful!! thank you soo much 🫶
A Little Life! I'm obsessed with that book. I read it in December and I literally think about Jude every day. Though I only recommend that book if you look up the trigger warnings and are in a good headspace because a lot happens in that book. I honestly had to take a break from the book because it made me physically sick.
OMG FINALLY!!! I WAS WAITING FOR THIS ONE SO BADLY!!! I now wanna read all the books on your list so bad. You are a very bad influence on me in terms of book buying hahahha. My favorite books of the year were definitely "The Last Olympian", "Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the World", "Concrete Rose" and "Tyler Johnson Was Here". I would love to read more fantasy and nonfiction this year because I have been stuck in this loop of contemporary books. Lovely video as always, bestie! Love ya! 💙✌️
Favourite books of 2021 for me were definitely Oathbringer, book 3 of the Stormlight archive- series and "when will it finally be like it never was again" by Joachim Meyerhoff. Thank you for the video. I actually haven't read a single one of those books yet, but either these or other books by the same authors are all on my tbr
Circe is on my TBR for February aswell! The Song of Achilles was my favourite of 2021... so curious to hear what you think of Circe! And omg, these editions are gorgeous!
OMG I should not have reacted before the video ended. I agree soooo much with all these comments. Taylor Jenkins Reid is thé author I discovered in 2021 and man how I love all her books.
Vitor Martins' new book you mentioned is soooo good, it's the third one he published here in Brazil. Can't wait to hear your opinion. And yes, the original title in portuguese is translated as "Fifteen days"!
