the dji fpv drone is one of the absolute fun thing I have ever done!!!! it was my first drone ever and I got it a couple weeks back and I am sold dont know why all the bad reviews .....come on guys this is awesome for folks like me dont let folks see these reviews that have never flown a drone before -
As much as the more “core” fpv community, myself included, rip on this drone, that H showing where you took off from is amazing, would love to have that in my more home made crafts
Great stuff mate. I used this as my entry point in full blown fpv. Now have 5" quads and cinewhoops galore. If you can get a deal on and get a gopro your golden as you have the goggles which can be used for with other fpv quads going forward... and dont forget the panic button!
Love my fpv but then I didn’t buy it for filming rarely ever record my flights just love flying low and fast with the top gun music playing in my head I know its sad but it’s so much fun 😆🏴👍
I think props are seen on purpose while flying. It just help to understand size of drone if you are trying to fly through something. Do not forget that dji fpv is meant to be begginers friendly fpv...
Owning many FPV quads now I was thinking of one of these just for the convenience factor of having an agile but fully flight stablized bird for things like checking out new flying areas, finding lost quads, etc. The only turnoff is having to own a 3rd set of DJI goggles and all the software hacks required to unlock all the nanny features.
You don’t need a third set of goggles, you can sell one because you can flip between air-unit and dji within the goggles without too much problems (takes like 2 mins) I do it all the time!
Thanks for your review here Glen. It's funny how polarising the DJI FPV machine is. I watched your "first FPV flight" video and found myself being disappointed that you weren't all "oh wow, this is awesome" about it. Haha. Where the DJI FPV unit tends to shine is in that "cinematic cruising" bracket (with a GoPro attached, of course). Imagine mounting surfing etc. Compared to a standard FPV freestyle drone, it's a lot heavier and slower, but that lends itself to smoother flight characteristics in many ways, it also forces you to smooth-out your flying and plan your moves a little more - as you cannot just nail the throttle to save your butt like you can with a purpose-built freestyle quad. Thanks again for your review. New subscriber.
Thanks for the Sub Cliff! I just read your comment to Mark and obviously this one and I think you make some really good points! And yeah my first flight might have been perhaps because I didn't plan a good location and I was near a no fly zone and I couldn't really fly through obstacles. And it is funny you mention that, because this week I have been thinking "Maybe I don't have to punch this thing into sports mode and fly it at top speed through a gap" and yes I haven't actually thought about 'Cinematic Cruising' and I am going to give that a go as well as practicing Manual. I really appreciate your comments and feedback and I hope to see more from yourself in the comment sections in some of my future videos going forward. Thanks again :)
@@GlenCairnsVideoProductions I'm new to FPV myself (I have been flying a 5 inch for less than 5 months) but loving every minute of it. I've already covered one motorsport event with my quad and there are more events in my future. None of those events requires that I do flippy-flops and such, so if you're thinking of how to integrate FPV into your professional work (as I was), it's more than likely to be cinematic (or slow moving) to some degree. FPV is making its way into realestate for things such as house fly-throughs etc, so it's a handy skill to have in one's filming arsenal, I feel. You already have some wonderful stuff. Cruising can be breath-takingly beautiful. I also like crashing my 5 inch into trees whilst trying crazy stuff. Cheers!
Sry, but my batteries goes from 11- 15 mins. And secound, this drone is made to go in fpv flying. Its saver than others and smart af. I never loose it in one year use. I try to loose it but never lost. In case of loosing connection this drone perfectly fly home. Also i can fly all other drones now, cuz i learned on a realy heavy one. Once u learn about gravity at flying quads u can fly everything with this 2 nice sticks. Btw a great information video. Thanks for the good work and keep it on. We like it.
I liked your video. I absolutely love this drone... I have so much fun flying it. But, I do disagree with you about the camera. The camera is not as bad as you made it sound. But it could be better. There is always room for improvement. Also yes the propellers get in the view and that is annoying. I just ordered a GoPro 11 and I'm hoping and expecting the footages to be significantly better.
New subscriber here all the way from Island of Borneo. Thanks for the real honest experience. I guess it's a love n hate relationship indeed. I wanna get into fpv but still a noob on all those things. It's the goggles n the gps that makes me love this thing. Damn dilemma lol
Thanks for the review! One of my worries about buying this drone is how expensive it would be to actually crash it, which you probably will, since it's a drone made for flying through stuff. Have you had any crashes yet? If yes, how fixable is it?
Hi Aleks! Truth be told yes I have crashed it! I’ve only crashed it twice and it was in the same flight 😅😂. Luckily for me I wasn’t flying too fast or very high, however it did still take quite a drop onto concrete and luckily for me it was just the props that got it in a bad way. From my understanding the DJI Refresh package is very useful for this drone if you were to cause serious damage to your drone in terms of a free replacement, or you can buy different parts at a cheaper price (I would personally take the replacement since I don’t know where to start when it comes to repairing drones!). Another point id like to make is that when I got this drone I was petrified to fly it because I didn’t want to crash it, so I flew it in normal mode for a while with the motion sensors protecting me and then eventually when I felt more comfortable I would take it into sports mode and practice certain sequences. I hope this helps 🙂. Glen.
@@GlenCairnsVideoProductions thanks for the detailed response! Care refresh package wouldn’t do it for me with this drone, I think… managed to crash my drone four or five times in the last year… can’t even imagine what I’d do with this thing that encourages crazy stuff haha
Fpv is fun and all until you crash your drone and lose your 300$ action camera (this has happened to me 🙂). However, for maximum addictiveness you have to fly in full manual.
@@GlenCairnsVideoProductions by the way i saw you flying over the water. Be extremely careful with stuf like that since fpv drones can lose signal and just crash into water (talking about that from my experience too😆😅). I suggest just to be safe apply some sort of water-repellent which is specifically made for electronics, therefore, even if the accident happens the drones electronics will work just fine.
Ah thanks for your support! And mine too 😄 I love how the footage looks from the go pro and how user friendly the DJI FPV is. And thanks! I’ll be flying in your country next month with the Mini 3 pro so stay tuned 🏴🤝🇫🇷
Great video, thank you ! This drone is a bit heavy and loud for my liking, and as you say, the video quality is poor, and the props get in the way as well. DJI has just released the Mini 3 Pro, but it seems that it cannot be used with their digital FPV goggles, which, to an FPV-newbie like me, is both disappointing and incomprehensible. I hope that DJI release an FPV-Mini soon, with
Hi Glen! I really like your review because it is just honest about the camera quality, but offers a solution with the GoPro. You channel should have much more subscribers and your videos more likes. :D Btw: I want to buy a used DJI FPV right now and I am not sure, if that is a stupid idea, because DJI FPV mini and maybe DJI FPV 2 is coming this year. Otherwise I can just sell the old version again later on and have some practice meanwhile…
Thanks Jens! And you have to start somewhere I guess haha 😉. That’s the million dollar question is it! I think the DJI FPV will still have its unique spot with the GoPro combo despite the supposed FPV Mini due to launch this year, but if it was me I’d wait until the FPV Mini came out first to see where my money is best invested, by then I could see the DJI FPV having a much bigger discount to 🙂
Thanks for the review. I was so close to getting one last week but have heard from a lot of people about the bad video quality. The biggest issue for me is the battery life, I’m spoiled by 20-30 min flight times with a single battery.
Yeah, It's almost one of those situations where you don't want to commit to the 1st generational product and see what they come up with next. I still think it wasn't a flop of an entry point, however I think they have a lot to work on for their next product!
There are a lot of people who really like it. And FPV's power requirements are vastly different to a standard camera drone, so flight times are significantly reduced - but I get your point. Funnily enough, I've seen some FPV pilots comment that they find flight times over 5 mins quite taxing, as the concentration levels are often quite a bit higher than your standard flying experience. The normal flight time for freestyle FPV is somewhere around 3-4 minutes, but there's a LOT that happens in that time. :) I think you should try FPV before deciding, you might really love. And you might not. Cheers.
@@clifffield1 I'm anxious and looking forward to expanding to FPV. I am hoping soon there would be a niche FPV drone that caters to cinematography in a way that puts a priority on image quality and flight time and sacrifices speed. The engineering of these requires powerful motors but smaller props for speed and agility, this eats batteries. Hoping some day there is a middle ground with agility, performance, slower speeds, and a better camera.
@@pixelsimage There are options such as iFlight's pre-built line of 7 inch propeller 'Chimera' quads that can get over ten mins of flight time and are wonderfully stable units. They're not cheap either, but they are really built for what you're describing there. Granted, you're not going to get flight times like a Mini or a Mavic etc, but you can cover a massive amount of range in ten minutes with a cruising speed of 50-70 MPH. And they'll hit the top speed stuff (90mph and over) if you want them to... So there's options, but all this stuff is really limited by battery capacity. Damn physics! Cheers.
Thanks! I still get it wrong sometimes by just slightly, I tend to hold the drone parallel as if it was flying and then try have the GoPro as vertical as possible and even tilt it down a degree or 2 depending what I’m filming 👍
You guys never heard about fpv racing, the fpv camera is awesome. It is not made for filming it is made for racing. Look at that video, thats what fpv racers normally see: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Y21IuSJyS-A.html
@@redcirclesilverx4586 do you mean for filming? Then yeah, but on a normal racing or freestyle quad you dont even have a camera for that. And for the fpv flying through the goggles its awesome.
I think DJI will have to redesign the FPV to resolve the issues with the original FPV. And going by the rumours if it is an FPV MINI that will be exceptional! Especially if they keep it under 250g! As for weddings, get to know the industry, go to film school work on projects until you feel competent at giving weddings a go, then sell yourself as a second shooter to videographers to build yourself a portfolio and take it from there my friend 😊. I touch up about that topic in this video here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JLyHBTAhIjA.html
It's an absolute epic drone for what it's designed to do and the freestyle quads do exactly what they're designed to do I love fpv and I love DJ I gave you it in a relaxing way, and if you want to be terrifying it can be terrifying 😅, have you tried different props?
Oh the battery life is only 5-8 mins ? That’s good to know as I only get around that on my “””race””” drones and I was always wondering like wow how does dji get the 20 mins or whatever they claim for this
Yeah I’m sure they test this in a environment where their is no obstruction to the drones flight, it’s the same with the other drones that claim to be 32 mins flight time when really it’s about 20-25 mins.
I'm I the only one that thinks the camera isn't all that bad 🤷 and there's a setting to get the props out of the shot .. I've gotten some really nice footage from the built in camera no it's not my Mavic 3 but it's as good as most any action camera.
