I'm just the opposite! 😊 Justine does eat before they film Frontier Patriot, but she eats very little at that time. It's Ron who can't get enough food. I saw him eat 9!!! beef patties once along with whatever else she fixed. She only ate 1. And he never asks her if she would like to have more before he polishes off whatever is left.

Listening to your conversation is like chicken soup for my soul! About Christmas decorating, while other people are out to the shopping malls and going nuts on Black Friday, I put up my porch lights and a little tabletop tree while playing vintage seasonal music. Nothing comes back down until Three Kings Day in January. I just feel the lights and colors are so good for people to see in the wintertime.

We make our chicken soup from chicken bones left over from whole chickens that I had smoked. We will leave a lot of the "hard to get to" meat on the bones and then boil like making a bone broth. Let it cool, pick the meat off the bones and add it back to the broth (after skimming the fat) . The rest is up to my wife. She will not tell me what she does. I know there are veggies (celery, carrots and onions) and some spices but she will not tell me. 40 years and she does not trust me with it! She will make about 5 quarts of it. We eat 1 quart and then we will put up the other 4 quarts for the winter months or for when someone does not feel well. Chicken soup is good for a ailing body! Now to my question. How did they preserve food in your time period? We pressure can our soup but I'm not sure when that came about for the homemaker. Food was to valuable to waste (still is today).

Looks like you need a ladle with a shorter handle. Great job on the crispy crackers. Chicken Soup is supposed to be good for you when you feel sick. Coordinate a party of strong men for some authentic 19th century cooking to help Ron do some construction work. That might save you some time. I love you guys bringing history to life by actually living it! Maybe in the distant future, after you've built your house, settled in, lived a little on the land, your next project could be creating an Air B&B for families to experience and learn the life that you live on the land, rustic and "inconvenient." That would be a fantastic experience for visitors. You will have a demand for that.
