I definitely appreciate your videos. I don’t know how I ended up on this side of RU-vid, but I’m glad I’m here. Love your style and theme! Also, tried my first Sardines today after a grocery store run because of you. I’m hooked!
Actually, I went through a time of eating tuna from the can. I’m 72 years old, and have seen the quality and the density of pack, go so far down that I can’t even eat a tuna sandwich. Mackerel, prepared the same as tuna salad, tastes better to me.
@soupyschitz, some folks would rather nobody have anything than accept that they can't have everything. It's sad how predatory and animalistic the "elites" always get before the society that they're paid to support collapses due in no small part to their own psychopathy. It's really pathetic how incapable humanity seems to be to get off of the wheel.
Ventresca is a great idea for people that love tuna but are worried about mercury intake. Not only is it expensive so you can't afford to eat a lot, but mercury has been shown to concentrate in lean muscle rather than the fatty belly. Yellowfin is also one of the tuna species with lower mercury levels as a whole.
Ordered a case of each...Thanks for the reviews, no one else does these and since they're pricey it's nice to see it first on your channel. I'm landlocked in small Okla town without the luxury of a coastal seafood market so canned fish as you described is an option. I wish you did some recipe video's as well, I'd be interested in minimal preparations that compliment and not hide the quality of the product.
That tinned tuna belly looked amazing. Often Tuna gets overlooked but I guess you just have to pay the price and it delivers the experience. Inspired to see that there is no tinned fish dilemma that you can’t eat your way out of. Great music and effects. Wishing everyone could have a fatty piece of tuna belly. Toro Toro
I haven’t had any fancy tuna. The best I’ve tried is palacio de oriente tuna. I ate it out of the can sprinkled with salt, pepper, oregano and a squeeze of lemon. It was pretty neat.
I'm not sure how I found your channel, but I've been binge watching a lot of your videos. There's something so charming about your personality and video style. I haven't even tried any fish.
Ortiz Benito del Norte is one of my favourite lunchtime snacks (straight from the can, with chopsticks obvs). I love scooping up the flakey oil at the end of the can, and it has a less pungent aroma compared to most sardines, which is important in the office.. I thought my tuna hunting was over, I was wrong, there are greater depths to plumb..
I love Ortiz white tuna. And yes I do eat it right from the can (with a little salt). Drink the oil - you will be happy! Thanks for showing me the Ventresca, I want some now.
@@DavidPiniella I will need to try that sometime with another tuna oil, maybe in a salad dressing or for another tuna dish. Ortiz oil is so good it is gone within seconds.
That ventresca is amazing. I’ve had it a few times and it’s always a wonderful experience. I just dump the whole can on some salad and with a little lemon, it’s a great meal. Have you ever tried canned octopus in Galician sauce? They eat it in Spain on potato chips!
@@ronschlorff7089 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CUz1GNmIT_8.html is a good recipe but basically boil and cube a couple of potatoes and carrots, and toss with mayo, tuna (chicken can sub or both can be omitted), peas and olives. Boiled egg is also very traditional.
Hey man I know it might not be as glamorous as what you do on your channel but I wouldn’t mind seeing a review of different bumblebee tuna creations, LOL. Also maybe you could do a Whole Foods grocery sampler of their canned and jarred fish. Just if you were looking for video ideas. Love your stuff!
Bumblebee... yeah, I could see doing a deep dive on them. I have a Target nearby, I think I might go and buy all the cans they have and try them in one go.
@@CannedFishFiles just to clarify, not the actual tuna cans but the packets of flavored tuna creations. It is a relatively new product line that StarKist and bumblebee have come out with like sun-dried tomato basil, lemon pepper, chipotle flavored tuna etc.
Yeah they're the best. Maybe I was 19 when Adult Swim started coming on. Me and my buddies would LOSE OUR MINDS laughing at Meatwad, Sealab, Home Movies... good times!
"Fish fish"!! I'm in! Reminds me of a Salade Nicoise I've been meaning to make with deens, but this looks more doable (those beautiful long "fillets"). Many ways to do the salad, but pick your favorite and add a few of these little jewels. Yes pricey, but less than the one I had at a cafe in Nice in 2002. Yes it was nice,.. both Nice,.... and the Salade Nicoise!! :D
You're working your jaws through serious ocean-muscle-meat. You ate these tuna's just they way they should be eaten: minimalistically. Enjoy it for what it is....TOP GRADE tuna! (save that tuna oil to make salad dressing with) Another interesting video. Thanks for sharing. What am I even doing here? I'm watching Matthew Carlson!!
Yes, I want to taste the fish and nothing but the fish, especially at first. Over the last year, I've learned to make excuses for something that really ought to be incorporated in a dish, even though cooking really isn't in the videos (for now).
Hi Matthew, thanks for the video. I’ve enjoyed it as usual. This is a very typical situation with canned tuna. On one side you have those round cans with either tuna flakes or chunks in oil or sauce. Pesonally I always consider them of lower quality. Then you have square or oval cans with what I call ‘tuna fillets’. Those are kind of cut off filleted tuna pieces (here this is what they call ‘ventresca’). Unfortunately as is usual for Ortiz stuff it’s really expensive for those traditionally made cans. Obviously tuna chunks cost from €0,50 upwards and fillets start at about €2,50. For fun you could make a comparison with vegetarian tuna such as Loma linda tuno, some time.
If you could take a torch to it on a skewer so that it was lightly seared it would be like yakitori. The char ads a nice taste and texture and served warm it really melts in your mouth. Incredible.
If you're contemplating it, I think you have the right to satisfy your curiosity. Tear off the sticker before you get home and no one will call you a sucker!
The fanciest tuna I've had is starkist or bumblebee in a can Or the pouches. Those are some big slices of tuna. Tuna + mayo makes tuna salad, then put on bread. Spice it up with onions garlic Tabasco whatever you like. How do we support the channel? Your one comment said about patreon but I don't see a link .
I was just joking about the Patreon previously. Perhaps I will sell some merch in the coming months. Patreon may be further off. I don't want to ask for money while I still have time to consistently offer those folks something extra of value. In the meantime, thanks for watching.
@@CannedFishFiles I hate to ask.... But can we get a Baltic sprat's comparison review? I have been trying to find the right brand and some are so smoky they taste like an ashtray, some have spiny tails, some are in jars and have a watery texture to the body and then there are a couple I have tried that seem almost good, but I don't know if I'm looking in the right place. That would be an epic undertaking as there are so many sprats out there, but I think it would be the ultimate video. Thanks
Finally to follow my advice! You have met god today. Ortiz ventresca is heaven. Male a salad with tomate a onion amd a lot of bread. And ifnyou find, try Arroyabe. And another advice, do not eat in that way, put all in a silce of good bread with tomato and devour directly in that way.
Tuna is one of those things that just has to be in one solid piece or in big chunks for me to enjoy. If its too broken up I suddenly just hate it. Same thing with chicken. I absolutely hate shredded chicken.
