The police said if they don't stop they have something to hide, which is so true. Dutch police is nice so the idea of them running out a random panic is just not logical, you see how much effort they put in catching you without shooting you. They also often stop chases if the risk to the public is too great, they are weighing the greater good all the time. It makes no sense to catch one guy and them having killed kids or other pedestrians driving crazy.

The first video is a sad story. The guy is highly influenced by drugs and was suffering from a psychosis. He did not know what he was doing. The Dutch police has a very different approach in such cases. They are not allowed to shoot at will, and ramming a car off the road is highly exceptional. A more common approach in a high speed pursuit is (instead of the incredibly dangerous pit manouver) boxing the car in, using three police cars and the guide rails only if needed. In this case, they avoided going on the highway at all cost, hence they rammed the car off the road. The same holds for the Ford Focus in the second video. The first video was all over the Dutch news in 2015, for a whole week. Fortunately, these cases do not occur frequently.

@@bonsai67 Dutch (and most Western european) policy officers are abided by very strict firearms usage laws. There are basicly only 2 situations which determine if an officer is allowed to use his/her firearm: 1) If the suspect or suspects are armed aswell and are pointing their weapons at the general public or officers (and thus there is a clear risk of them injuring or killing someone or 2) If the officer is in such a threathening situation where using his/her firearm is the only way to save their lives (or save them from severe injuries). In all cases an investigation is started when an officer uses his/her firearm. That is why the weaponstick (or baton) is still used aswell as pepperspray + tazers. In this video the men in the black range rover were marked as armed proffesional criminals, members of the public where chased away from the scene as to not get harmed. I agree though, there are alot of criminals minor or big who deserve a bullet for putting people in danger, alas the Netherlands is a forgiving country (by lack of better words) and criminals (nearly) always get a change to better themselfs.

These were not 'traffic stops' but criminals on the run, and a complete madman going rampage. Not one was killed for as far as I remember. Not even the one that started rolling through the fields in his car. Dutch police do everything to catch them alive and bring them to court. Keeping in mind the safety of other road users. I like the reaction of the policeman when one of the criminals tried to escape by going to the Belgian border, 'That is not going to happen!' and he stopped him in time. Though there is good cooperation with Belgium, they sometimes are a little slow to react and escaping is possible. This in contrast to Germany, fleeing over the German border does always end bad, no pardon over there! Though they never shoot at criminals, they are bulldogs that wont let go until they get them in cuffs.

Your right. In the wild west they can shoot who and whatever they want and most of the time get away with it. In the Netherlands there are some explicit laws innplace for these kind of police actions. If an officer only pulls his gun he is prone to some serious investigation. Same for car chases. If something happened it becomes the responsibility and blame for the police. Indeed, in the wild west it doesn't matter if you or the chaser runs over some kids or causing serious accidents. It's always the perpetrator at fault. In NL, if they could have avoid such collision, it's by default the police to blame. Having said that. Not every Tom, Dick or Harry can apply for a job at the police. Some serious background as education is needed before they hand you over a gun and make arrests. It's more complicated, but at the end less innocent victims. Ah well, I guess if you like your good o'l westerns, it's probably boring. Just saying...

The clip at 23:30 is from a chase of a car/suspect that was stolen from a police depot after the vehicle was seized in suspicion of drug trafficking. The mere fact they took the risk of regaining a vehicle from such a location meant they were worried the stakes were very high for the criminals involved and more force was used to apprehend the suspect as a result. It probably is one of the wildest chases apart from one at the 19th of May in 2021 in which a precious metal transport was raided and the criminals responsible were followed into farmland under a massive amount of gunfire, which killed one of them. (And "massive amount of gunfire" is something I say as a Dutch person who never saw a police officer draw their gun in real life, let alone use it).

But this guy is completely nuts, probably high on something. The idiot damaged several cars, police cars and went through a terras. I hope he's still in jail. (first one in the video I mean)

To me police has always been a force of protection. I've had multiple times when I got pulled over, but it was always in relation to random check, nothing bad ever came of it. When Dutch police resort to pulling a weapon you just know you're in it deep. They don't pull it for nothing. Most officers don't pull their weapons in a career of 30+ years.

Many years ago, I visited the justice court in Alkmaar. I didn't know who would be on trial that day because I was going to do just a simple report for my Journalism Class. Just before the defendant was brought in, a few security officers examined the court room, then they radioed in the OK to bring in the man. Turns out the defendant was Okan O.'s getaway driver. The two were chased by police after a robbery. Okan shot at the police car through the back window but missed. Just after the chase entered the city, another motorcycle cop opened fire on the fleeing car. The two other chasing police officers also opened fire. Okan O. and his driver were apprehended but sadly a bystander was seriously injured. She was also testifying in court that day, fortunately in much better shape again. Okan died of liver disease in prison. He never admitted any guilt in another case, the disappearance of his 19-year old girlfriend and their 1-year old daughter. Their bodies were found buried in the dunes in 2002, after Okan's younger brother admitted he had helped his brother bury the bodies.

I was walking home one day in Almere (Netherlands) and saw a cop car in the middle of the road, and a cop lying on his back by the drivers door which was open , reloading his firearm. I thought that's odd, looked further up the street and saw a guy in a car pointing a gun in our direction which he then fired three shots from. I was on the floor like a flash, then the cop got in his car and the chase continued. It was awesome to see.

it is nice to see how others react to the Dutch police and how they act. totally different from how it is done in America. I am also from the Netherlands and for us it is sometimes an adrenalin kick to see these videos. 💪🏼

i regulairy work on repairing police cars and trust me.. its immediately recognizable when one is used as a battering ram. cause those cars are heavily armored and not easily dented (exept for the bumpers). a average police door is twice as heavy as a normal car door

just a mention. the police force in the Netherlands had a lot of restrictions to hold on. some of them are so strict that if they shoot someone in the leg while their own life’s are not in danger. they are the one going to get charged for it. 2:35

The number one rule police learn during their 2 years training in the Netherlands is de-escalation through verbal communication, only when the life of an officer or the life of a civlian is in danger warning shots may be fired (heard around 23 mninutes with the range rover) and at the very very end directed bullets to knees are allowed. Shoot to kill is extremely rare, running suspects are more frequently stopped by dogs. Love the reaction videos man, always cool to see people interested in our little country! In 2021 only 2 suspects have been shot dead on purpose and 19 times police have shot aimed at a suspects knees. (source: dutch police crime report statistics)

I got pulled over for a not working taillight. I did not have any spare but the tank station was just 2 km so the police offered to be my taillight to get to the station to get a new lamp. They even helped installing it. No fine.

30:06 Crook headed to Belgium, going 170 kph on farm roads: Cop: "...Okay, I'm done. Time for some real driving." Badass. ^_^ 31:55 Co-ordinatior: "Is he injured?" Cop: "He's not injured _yet._ - On your belly. On your belly." He says afterward that he _really_ needed to take control, for safety reasons. Narrator added the obvious: His partner was off cuffing the jackass who ran past the farmhouse. 34:15 Unless they shoot you dead on the spot.

I loved to watch these shows when I was younger. Blik op de Weg, Stop! Politie... Pretty sure there was another one. They weren't just about high speed chases, sometimes it was just about people being stupid. Like taking a pick-up truck and having people sit in the, whatsitcalled, the bed? While driving over the highway. Improperly stored cargo taking a roll, tipping a car and/or truck, doors that didn't close. Sometimes they'd stop someone to tell him/her that the tires looked a little worn and flat and find out the driver is driving without insurance, without a tested car and, most importantly, without license. Many of those shows usually had some actual information about traffic laws in them too.
