I just looked it up and they still sell the cars at Domeinen. I had a Holliday job there a very longtime ago. So I was surprised also. I think you are right the car is to old to sell.

A car that is auctioned has to be 'ready for the road' when sold, and with another licence plate, if costs are higher than the selling price, the car is destroyed, which means it's sold for parts, without licence and registration. More and more 'government' cars and vehicles are leased and return to the lease company after doing their time. Impounded cars from criminal money are auctioned when all legal procedures to get it back by the owner are completed and dismissed. Once upon a time there were many 'state' companies like post, railways, telephone, energy etc, but they almost all got privatized and have their own arrangement for used cars, not the 'domeinen' anymore.

Quite a few of these cars are destroyed on paper. But in reality they end up in Africa or the Middle East.

@@Vanessa1900. But only 'legal' stuff, everything that is not within the law is destroyed. Rarely see an auction of a complete XTC lab with all equipment. Or 500 fast growing garden plants...

@@dutchman7623 yes and we are speaking about a car. They sell the cars. This one is probably to old and broken to cell. And yes off course they don’t cell something that produces drugs. Don’t think I have to mention that because it is obvious. But they cell everything legal that is worth money.

But as you state Domeinen sells cars but at absolute bottom prices. it's an auction where buyers buy on sight only, as is. so anything offered needs to look at least half way interesting. And a over 10 Yo compact car that shows it's age, is not even worth half way the bother.

I was thinking "anti-corruption measure" as well. Even if they take lesser measures like destroying the plates and paperwork and/or shipping the car off to another country at-cost, there's no way the cops or even the ministry gain anything.
