I'm a kiwi and 100% agree with everything, both pro and cons list. Just a comment on the car thing in case someone was worried about coming here to live either permanently or for a short term, in the major centres (Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch), there is a car share called City Hop. It's really awesome and easy to use (I don't work for them or anything). Really handy for anyone living in the city centre like me, no car but I can hire this car by the hour so I can still get about and do errands or go around the city and beyond to visit places 🙂 In terms of employment, I can definitely see the tourism industry being the whole "hire ya mate" but I work in education and er definitely value experience and knowledge over personality - though yes, sometimes personality is a factor as we want someone who will fit in with the team so they get on with others and feel included. I always miss the kiwi culture when I'm away and always breathe a sigh of relief when I land back on home soil. I love kiwis, I love the laid back and friendly culture of my people! But anyway, I know I'm not your target audience but I still enjoy watching your videos 😁

Thanks for the very kind messages Victoria :) I agree with pretty much everything you said except (!!!) that you are not "our target audience". If you are into exploring New Zealand and want to check out more places to visit in NZ, you are in the right place. We'd be glad to have you on board as we keep showing the best that NZ has to explore. Join in :)

Realky enjoyed watching your video. Im currently in England in the south, (Paighton) and ive wotked in canads 6.5 years ice road trucking and innthe oil fields. Been back in England now two years and trucking here but mostly agency work and want another adventure and pehaps with my hobbies NZ would be a good choice for me so ill check out more of your videos for info so it will help me chose a good location there to put myself in. I guess house share is best option like I did in Canada. I love the coast and the wilderness so i hope after being contacted yesterday by an NZ recruiter i will make a good choise on where to get situated. Sorry to hear about your camper thats the first thing i got to live in when i came home here for the past 2 years 😊

That is true! But what I point out in the video is that often you can get the price per 100gr or per kg for similar products making comparing prices harder :)

thankyou!!! I'm planning to move to New Zealand in the future, I lived there for only a few years when I was a kid so I'm pretty out of touch with the country. i think many people including me sometimes want to move to a new place or environment and we tend to think that it's going to be better than the ones we're in rn so its good to know the positive and more importantly the negative side of everything : ))))

Funny what you said about how people don't want to plan thier lives too far in advance... My dad does this, he plans his calendar 6 to 12 months in advance and he'll send me texts asking hey, are you free on November 3rd... And I'm like dude... Thats like 6 months away... I don't know... Ask me in October, don't ask me now... It's too soon....

Hello. I am looking into doing a several months long sabbatical in NZ (I am university professor), and I would be working with/at a university in NZ. I live in the USA. What advice would you have for an American planning to spend a couple of months in NZ semi-working (I would still be paid by my home institution, not by an entity in NZ). Thank you!

It's a little encouraging that the government is doing something about it now. Hopefully it won't affect rent and the government will take care of that! Great informative video though!🌹

There is tons to do with the arts! Especially in New Plymouth. There is an art gallery that has a completely reflective surface and is full of sculptures and paintings as well as in the holidays there will sometimes be cool classes for kids. Pros of living in NZ rather than in the UK: * less competition * less crowded * better work-life balance (the relaxed pace of life in NZ is much healthier than the rat race city life in the UK) * nicer climate (average of 2000 annual sunshine hours compared to 1493 in the UK) * less racism and xenophobia * cleaner air (NZ has some of the cleanest and safest air on the planet) * less corruption (NZ ranked world's least corrupt country for the third year in a row) * much safer (NZ ranked 2nd safest country in the world, Global Peace Index) * sustainability and care for the environment * higher minimum wage (a more egalitarian society) * easy access to beautiful scenery & untouched nature * much better COVID-19 public health response * family-friendly, a great place to raise children * better coffee!

What do you mean it wasn't expensive to get a broken arm fixed? It should have been completely free. As anything is in our hospitals. ACC insurance is not for parltching you up, it's there to pay 80% of your income if you can't work due to an accident and this insurance is paid by employers for their employees. If, like me, you are self employed, then you have to pay it yourself.
@NZPocketGuide
@NZPocketGuide 2 года назад
Yes you are correct, as we are self employed, we got our ACC bill increased in the next year, that I what I was getting to.
@maxineamon
@maxineamon 2 года назад
@@NZPocketGuide I have been self employed for over 40 years and in that time I broke my arm. My ACC premiums didn't change. What I found out after paying ACC for a few decades is that you can nominate a much less level of cover if you want. On the lowest possible premium it would mean getting 80% of the minimum wage if I was unable to work. I went for that option and have saved thousands. I figured that it would have to be something very severe if I couldn't work at a computer and if it was that bad I wouldn't be spending much anyway but all my medical costs would still be covered. And anyway, I usually take long breaks between contracts so have already learnt to save for down times.

Largest guide, how did you come to that fact. Don't think cuddling Kiwi is acceptable What happens if you don't have car insurance and are responsible for an accident. The public transport will improve everywhere now cv is over and you can get places. You need to have your receipt too for refunds some supermarkets will give you a refund and replacements if things arent satisfactory. The reason nz is earthquake and volcano prepared bcuz of recent incidents. What about Maori. What about them. Do they still live there or is nz full of expats. See our many other videos / articles about Kiwi birds What happens if you don't have car insurance and are responsible for an accident. -> Pay up! The public transport will improve everywhere now cv is over and you can get places. -> Yes it improves yearly. However COVID has had some impact in finding drivers for some councils You need to have your receipt too for refunds some supermarkets will give you a refund and replacements if things arent satisfactory. -> Good to know! The reason nz is earthquake and volcano prepared bcuz of recent incidents. -> Yes, as humans we tend to only learn AFTER something bad happen haha! But many volcanologist and geologist in NZ strive to predict this kind of event and their strength, some of our friends have PHDs in this field and it is fascinating! What about Maori. What about them. Do they still live there or is nz full of expats. -> There are a lot of Maoris in NZ their culture is alive and thriving! Yes Kiwi go with the flow even with CS and hiring local for jobs seems like the done thing. -> Haha indeed If you're British you will know that WiFi and Broad band are that great in the UK either especially if you are in hilly, mountainous places or in or around building with thick walls. -> That was not too much of my experience, but great to know!
