The geography of New Zealand was the most enchanting I have ever witnessed. Traveling by bus from Hamilton to Wellington was a real eye-opener. I swear, every twenty minutes we seemed to enter an entirely new and different ecosystem. The cuisine, the people, the tourist activities - everything is incredibly exciting and welcoming. The greatest gem of all though are the people! I had the most amazing experience noching on green lipped mussels with a group of new friends near the ocean one day. If I could immigrate there myself, I would have done so in a heartbeat. 1000/10 - cannot recommend highly enough!

In Canada we call our country and our people a “mosaic” rather than a “melting pot” because a mosaic allows each person to remain unique and individual, like a single tile in a mosaic, rather than being assimilated and “melted down” to become like everyone else. I think NZ is more of a mosaic too! ❤️🇳🇿🇨🇦

Regarding the weather. Depends on which part of New Zealand you live. In winter, sure, you can start off raining, or cloudy, then have it turn sunny, only to have it rain again. However in summer, my experience in the Hawkes Bay, Waikato and Manawatu/Whanganui regions, it tends to be long and hot dry summers. The housing thing is recent, but you're still right about it. I never thought about how expensive things like food were though. I'm living in London at the moment. I don't like the weather here, and preferred the weather back home. Even Wellington in summer has been better. But that's just me. Others may feel differently. I miss boysenberry icecream and feijoas (the food of the gods). The food scene maybe coloured by your experience in France, etc, as I've come across others that think really highly of the food scene in NZ. I suppose it depends on what you're after.

Thanks for the video. We are starting to plan a 3 week holiday to NZ. I will watch more of your videos. Maybe the economy had changed to the USD exchange rate. Our research is showing that a 3 week holiday to NZ will cost about half of our 3 week holiday to Italy, France, and England in 2022. Right now 1 NZD is about 0.65 USD so our USD seems to go futher than compared to the Euro or GBP.

@@davidwillard8908 My #1 tip (I have lived and travelled in dozens of countries now and lived in NZ for 13 years) is to do a LOT of research before deciding to move here. It is not an easy move and 3 weeks of only holidaying is not enough to make your mind on a country and see if it suits YOU in particular. A friend of ours just moved here last year to work at a geothermal plant here and it has been quite the adventure for her haha That said we mostly talk "travel" on the channel. We would prefer to talk relocation in the private sessions.

Hello Thank you for the information .I would like to ask how easy is to rent a home in NZ ? Are the estate agencies reliable ? What about the quality of the buildings and in general the houses ?
@NZPocketGuide
@NZPocketGuide 2 года назад
Sadly I don't really have much good things to say about this... Renting is extremely expensive due to our current housing shortage, rental agencies are not really reliable driving the price up and delivering poor service and the quality of houses in New Zealand is below average due to them being quite old and badly insulated in most places. There are obviously exceptions to this but New Zealand is notoriously facing some massive issues when it comes to housing at the moment :(
@MrAwesomeBrett
@MrAwesomeBrett Год назад
100% , from an American who has been living in NZ for 6 years now, the working life is an odd one. You'll find the workforce isn't overally ideal (which I think ties into your 'taking advantage of people criticism'). I think it's less that they're trying to take advantage of you and more likely that it's just an employee who has no idea what's going on. I've ping ponged around with different jobs (especially during covid) and training for most companies is like none existent. It's the wild west, you just kinda figure shit out. It's country ran by people sort of figuring shit out as they go and you'll find that really quickly when living here. As well as like Hospo industries in a time of like no backpackers is pretty shit - Kiwi's aren't good at hospo. So, just know that if you move here. If you love outdoors and are really good saving money, you'll love it. If you want to do anything after 5pm (pretty much everything closes at 5pm) and kind of expecting a certain caliber of service, this isn't going to be fun for you here - it's very expensive and boring, unless you're outdoorsy.

I've heard that many houses in NZ do not have adequate insulation. Is this a reason for concern? Many people recommend getting heated blankets for the winter but the lack of insulation still results in high electricity bills.
@NZPocketGuide
@NZPocketGuide 3 года назад
That is very true, the vast majority of houses lacks proper insulation resulting in high moisture, high power bills, etc...
@robert3987

Insulation in NZ houses is not very good. Duvets are essential.

On cold nights we wear extra clothing. We were warned not to rely on central heating by the story of the Swedish man who always went to bed naked. One night he was woken by his smoke alarm: his house was on fire in the middle of winter. He rushed outside to save himself. He was found frozen solid stuck to his snowmobile 9km away, just 3km from his nearest neighbour.🥺
@user-yz8lg3bo3y
@user-yz8lg3bo3y 2 года назад
That is true. But in saying that, the current government has introduced a healthy homes standards requirements for all rental homes in NZ, which is being implemented now. It's called the rental warrant of fitness. (Big fine for the landlord from the tenancy tribunal if not done). Just a word of warning though, if you're looking at renting at this stage, it's a very unstable place to be. So think hard about it. As has been mentioned, if you can afford to buy a house here, be prepared with an extra 30,000 to 100,000+ to get your old/new home up to scratch. Obviously, depends on area of country and size of house.

I agree that New Zealand is expensive. For one thing there are no illegal immigrants to do the heavy lifting, The farm worker imported to the country have to be paid the minimum wage, $20 per hour. That's in contrast to Europe and the USA where many farm workers are illegal migrants. NZ is too far to travel to penetrate borders. NZ's are not happy to see farm workers explolited. NZ doesn't have easy trading relations. Up to 90% of food produced, fruit, meat and dairy produce is expoited. NZ could in fact feed 10 times it's population. Still, food is expensive and some produce is not grown. Eating grapes could be grown in much of the country but the only economical grapes are for wine. Wine is a profitable export item. Much of NZ businesses, banks, retail and insurance are dominated by Australian companies. NZ did once have a motor vehicle industry but it was abandoned when the government allowed free access to imported second hand vehicles. Japanes cars transfer easily to NZ and today NZ car ownership rates equal the US. Japanese second had cars dominate the roads and the people are happy with their imports. Housing is expensive, as in much of the world. So, NZ is a business, like any other.

Also, a con is that in NZ the gaming industry is terrible, if that's the field you work in. There are terrible education resources for learning how to make games professionally if you choose the uni route, hardly any NZ-based game design companies if any exist at all, and even just playing games you'll probably end up with more than one game from overseas being censored before you own it. You pretty much have to go down the indie developer path down here, and start everything up of your own dexterity. Come to think of it, there aren't many good NZ-based TV shows being creatively produced by NZ as a country. Most of the ones that are good typically don't even follow a standard storytelling format and act more like clip shows and sketch-based TV parodies.

A lot of pro’s I do not agree with food from restaurants it is amazing here maybe you did not find it yet and I am also here for 10 years. Also yes groceries are expensive but gas for your car is cheap compare to the Netherlands it cost double the price also tax is lower here 32% in NZ en 52% in the Netherlands. I do not have a car it is fine for me I walk and order groceries. The only nightlife is in Auckland and there are a lot of amazing clubs so I do not agree with you. Clothing is not hard I buy a lot online without any problem. Never had problems with consumer things maybe have been unlucky. Internet in the beginning was very bad with data limits but it came from far I have fibre and it is very fast and I am happy with it. House rental depends were you are living can be cheaper if you life in a small town. Earthquakes are not in Auckland and I am living in Christchurch and had in 1 year just one but it was very small.

This is a good video but a bit misleading. The healthcare isn't free. It's only free when you have an accident or when you are admitted to hospital. When seeing the dr or having an x ray that isn't because of acc you pay. If you need to see physical therapist or podiatrist or anything of that sort you need to pay. And it's expensive.
