Whether it be the square-footage you're looking to cool, the price, or the features, the below points should help you decide if the Whynter ARC-14S model is the unit you're going to purchase to stay cool.
Let's get started:
❄Good things:❄
1) Keeps Your room cool. Multiple 90+ degree nights you'll stay comfortable. The unit easily cools 500 square feet. I've even seen it work on a 110-degree day.
2) Prevents break-ins when you're away. You can quickly remove the portable unit, close and lock your window in seconds. When you get home? You can put it back into place just as easily. You can't easily do this with a window unit.
3) Works up to 500 sq/ft. With an oscillating fan to rotate the air, you'll find that you may be able to cool more space than advertised. However, the unit won't cool as efficiently.
4) Easy Install. There is no drilling required. No leveling.
5) Change the temperature from your couch or bed without having to get up. (Remote control included.)
❄Bad things:❄
1) The unit needs to sit upright for 4-hours prior to first use. This allows the compressor oil and refrigerant to settle.
2) If your window is small in width? The second plastic piece could end up covering one of the two ventilation holes in Piece #1. It's nothing a saw (or a piece of cardboard/plexiglass to replace it) can't fix.
3) Upon first using the unit, the outside of the ventilation tubes became hot. Thankfully, this hasn't happened since, but it's something to be aware of.

You're willing to install and use a window unit. Why? Because you can typically get the same BTU power for a lesser price by buying a window unit.
❄This unit could be right for You If...❄
If you're looking to cool up to 500 sq/ft. You'll be comfortable cooking, cleaning, and doing work around your living space. If you have kids, they will be too. (This unit is just as powerful as a window unit.)
If you're looking for an easy install. No drilling/tools required.
If you're looking to protect your home. Window units leave your home vulnerable to burglars. This unit is easy to remove and put into place allowing you to lock your windows each time you leave home.
If you need a unit that requires little maintenance. It's been 2 years. I haven't yet had to drain or perform any maintenance on this unit.

The first portable AC I bought was a disaster...
It was the LG LP0817WSR 115.
Unless you want to be constantly draining your unit, which has absolutely no cooling power anyway? I wouldn't buy LG. At least, not this model. You'll be highly disappointed. (That's the only other portable AC I've tried, which is why I mention it.)
