💀 Braving Mexico City's MOST DANGEROUS NEIGHBORHOOD 🇲🇽 Tepito & visiting LA SANTA MUERTE 💀

Whether you want to go to Tepito is entirely up to you, but if you go just know yourself well enough to be able to decide if you're up to it. Despite being known as a barrio bravo or rough neighborhood, I had an amazing time in Tepito and one that I won't soon forget. It's known as Mexico City's most dangerous neighborhood but I had the fortune and pleasure of meeting Doña Queta the beautiful woman who cares for the alter of La Santa Muerte in Tepito. I also got a beard trim from a local barber who thought tourists visiting Mexico City should come and check out Tepito while they're here and by doing so it might help Tepito lose some of it's bad reputation.
Tepito is commonly known as Mexico City's most dangerous neighborhood and while some darker elements do lurk about, on the whole I found it to be a vibrant working class neighborhood filled with honest and hard working people.

I really appreciate the fact that you show off-the-beaten path places and interact with the locals. RU-vid is too oversaturated with superficial travel vloggers who just film themselves visiting all the well known tourist points of interest and eating taco after taco.

Your journey into the badlands revealed a neighbourhood full of gracious people and will hopefully change many opinions people might hold against Tepito. Doña Queta was such a kind and caring lady with a heart of gold. Fantastic video! 😃

Gosh, you are brave. Most Mexicans have never been to Tepito because of its really bad reputation. I lived in Mexico City for 5 years, and I never ventured myself, even though I heard so much about the famous 'antiques' market and 'designer' clothes (good knock-offs). I guess Tepito would be like our Chinatown, here in New York (sans the antiques). Great experience. Thanks to you now I know how Tepito looks like. Funny. Cheers

First video of yours I've watched. I came to pray to Santísima Muerte from a Hispanic friend while living in my home state of Texas. I've always wanted to visit Tepito one day because of its importance as a center of devotion but probably wouldn't go alone because of what I've heard. You're extremely lucky to have met and talked to Doña Queta. Thank you for being so respectful and even bringing cigarettes - you didn't have to. I'm grateful for the video, as it was like being there myself. I'm really glad it was a positive experience for you.

Thanks for the video! Like you, I've also found that if you treat people with courtesy and respect, most neighborhoods in big cities are fine to explore. I'm more careful at night - but I'll visit Tepito on my next visit to CDMX, it looks interesting. My advice to travelers is usually that one of the most important things to do when you visit another country is to learn the forms of politeness there, and be relentlessly polite - yes, you may see local people abbreviating or omitting politeness with each other - but you're not local, and you're a stranger, so be polite! A smile and a "buenos dias" or "buenas tardes" when you enter a shop or make eye contact with someone on the street will greatly smooth your visit. The locals in Mexico City tend to be more abrupt, and less outgoing, than in many other parts of the country, but they certainly know the polite forms, and they treat you better if you are polite in the Mexican way. .

In general, I always get worry when RU-vidrs go to dangerous places/neighborhood across certain countries. I’m glad you’re okay and nothing happened to you. You and Finn in the future should do a collab in México! :D

I went there a couple of weeks ago and while we were eating, 1 tattoo'd guy was staring me down for no reason. It did kind of freak me out a little bit, and we ducked-out of there. Although I've never had any issues after 11 years, I try not to make a habit to go there that much. You will definitely find things priced very low there. The people were running because they were selling products illegally on the street. In fact, if you noticed, they're all connected with radios, and they have actual lookouts that signal when the police are getting close. If caught, the police will confiscate their products, I've seen that happen as well. Secondly, you will feel safe walking around, but don't forget that things can and will change in an instant. Especially given the fact that you are a foreigner, there have been known instances where foreigners have been kidnapped and held for ransom- in Tepito. I will also say you were brave to have your haircut there with someone having a razor on your neck.

if you walk street "Tenochtitlan" or street "Jesús Carranza" in Tepito, you'll have many offers of weed, specially with that tshirt, most buyers of weed in Tepito are musicians... but yes it can be dangerous, i've seen "Chineros" (search that word here in youtube) stealing people in "Eje 1", the avenue that you walked, at day with people passing... be careful.

Tepito does have a bad reputation, but where did you get the idea that it is the most dangerous part of CDMX? Basically any part of Itztapalapa makes Tepito look like Condesa.
@kikipt
@kikipt 3 года назад
Your ongoing comments about not feeling threatened really don't help. People rarely "feel" threatened when bad things happen, that is what makes those things possible. Whenever I have been robbed or pickpocketed it has been in a neighborhood where I did not feel threatened - most recently in Roma Norte. We are usually much more aware when we know a neighborhood has a bad reputation.
