Omg at 22:27 when he makes the bugle noise because he thinks it's a Bugler Rat made me literally die laughing. Dude I freaking love watching you play magic Seth.
Every time I run into a new deck randomly 3-4 times in a day I can bet there's a new Against the Odds up. It's almost better than RU-vid notifications.
It doesn’t produce enough value imo. Since you can’t guarantee you’ll be able to strip their whole hand every game, you really prefer for every discard card to either produce card advantage or some control over what they discard
30:28 Not ultimating Liliana when you have the chance has to be a mistake. You're guaranteed a free hasty Uro next turn and you can keep grabbing the other Uro every turn for more value.
I 100% agree even playing devils advocate of "oh you want a discard engine" I still think it makes more sense to have uro triggers every turn not to mention getting back tiny bones ect.
If you are saying this because people play out their hand against tinybones, consider that not playing anything until your opponent doesn't have a discard spell once doesn't get you anywhere. Maybe their biggest out was Seth not being aware of the activated ability.
@@Kettwiesel25 There are a couple of examples where they very clearly made a mistake, playing everything out on a board that kills them if they do, or not holding up a castle lochtwain trigger.
Me: *thinking maybe Historic looks interesting after all* Opponent: *Standard Bant with 5feri* Oookay. Just going to stick to drafting until September.
Well, best of one historic is a tribal party, with goblin and elves leading the group, merfolk and vampires shortly behind, the new spirits addition that looks very strong and rogues trying to make their way without a lord. There are also some random dino fans and I encountered a daring pirate player today. As a tribal player, I love it
@@MTGGoldfish Most decks that run Vanguard go too wide for Lilliana's triumph to be a consistently good answer, in the sideboard you are better off running disfigures and grasp of darkness even though the incidental discard from time to time is very nice.
Thanks so much for playing a rack style deck. I am a massive fan of the grindy incremental value decks, and this seems like an archetype that personifies that. I mean, I loved lantern control. That probably says something about me...
You punted at 41:26 you should have discard the swamp first with Lilliana in case they had two counters in hand and then eliminated and used the swift end from murderous rider on Uro after if that was countered that way you keep the creature half.
Thank you from the very depths of my soul for this deck. Loving it so far. I've waited years to play a discard "rack" strategy type deck that was semi-competitive. My fav standard deck of all time was G/B Goyf/Rack/Smallpox during the days of Ravnica/Time Spiral. Playing this deck on Arena has the same feel.
20:18 "We're going to have to draw an edict effect pretty soon..." Then draws Rankle, an edict effect, and doesn't cast it, allowing opponent to put out buffer creatures... Not sure you would have won that game either way but dealing with the indestructible threat would have made it last a fair bit longer
This is exactly my mono black waste not deck, updated with m21 liliana and tinybones!!! I love Waste Not so much, and this seems a video personalized for me, thank you!
So at 41:30, Seth could have just waited on the Liliana activation and used Eliminate on Uro, holding up Swift End for the counterspell, meaning the bant deck would still be close to dead without two counterspells, right?
Couldn't vampire player activate castle locthwain in response to the tinybones trigger and fizzle the damage since they would have 1 card in hand? Or does tiny bones see that they have no cards and the activation is just a damage trigger?
Right at the end of the Bant Superfriends match, you had better odds casting both removal spells BEFORE activating Lili, because they would for sure keep a counter if able, and were much less likely to have two counters in hand than one (and as it turned out, they only had one counter). It would have left them in a much harder position topdecking, with Lili high enough on loyalty to safely minus again to answer another threat
What I like about this deck is how deep it is. You can easily play this deck, even if you don't have the wildcards to craft all the tinybones copies. There are multiple options which are quite good in the deck as well: Liliana's Steward Elspeth's Nightmares The five Mana Bolas' Saga The Discovery/Dispersal + Disinformation Package (Surveil Subtheme, needs some blue duals and maybe a single island) You can probably also go more into the Surveil theme, but I think this deck is significantly worse. Divest is ok (not great though) Hypnotic specter is also just ok, even though the combo with rankle is quite nice. Vicious Rumors is a card a friend of mine is very fond of (didn't test myself yet) Probably Gary (Gray Merchant of Asphodel) is not bad, even though he never did the cut for me. This list is not extensive. What do you think?
Or go black, white. Get access to charming prince to flicker your rats. You also have access to doom foretold and kaya to remove the cards you discarded from their graveyard
First time commenting on a video of yours, what would you say to the idea of using narset in the sideboard splashing blue to prevent card draw against bant mythics and teferi varients?
Finding a way to play 1UU Narset in the Monoblack deck feels like it could close a big hole in the deck's plan by locking the late game pretty tightly. It's so bad against aggro, they would have to sit in the sideboard.
So in Match 4, why name Ooze with the second spyglass instead of the teferi ? Its not like he cares that much about his graveyard, and he has far more creature removal than Planeswalker removal to draw into right ? Also would prevent the opponent from bouncing the Tinybones for the win in the last turn ?
God the bant match was soo close! And if u were to ultimate Lilli or kept the land for discard in game 3 (last turn) you could have won. Wow this deck seems really fun
My favorite kind of decks (8rack) Well with Ponza. I hope we could play a semi competitive discard deck in standard (a real discard deck not a blink value discard yorion stuff) We need waste not in Zendikar ^^
At first i was like "Wow, Tinybones deck is insane and cancer". But then i got reminded about Bant Ramp. Clearly the heavy weight of cancer magic decks.
Leyline gets bounced by turn 3 teferi basically every single match in my experience if you aren't putting serious pressure on their life total. It is however backbreaking for cat oven decks and non esper reanimator decks (T3feri again). It also is kind of irrelevant against plan B which is drag out the game, ugin and exile the opponent's board.

Is it me, or does he say his intro line like at half the speed he used to? Several Years ago: "Heeello everyone, it's Seth, Probably better known as SaffronOlive" More recent videos: "Heeeellllo everyooonnnneee, it's Seeetttthhh, Proobbbably better knowwn as Safffrrrooonnnn Ooollliiivvvveeee". Idk why this tiny, unimportant detail sticks out to me, but I swear I can play that specific line at 1.5x speed and have the same sound as a few years ago. I'm not trying to be rude or call him out or anything, it's just an unusual detail I noticed. Nothing inherently wrong with the way he says it. On an unrelated note: This video by itself is the reason I am downloading Arena as we speak. This deck looks super fun lol
There is actually a quite easy answer why you lost to Uro. You are not playing any gravehate. I for my part play 3 Bojuka Bog and 1 Elspeth's Nightmares (Main deck because bo1). I think it is quite obvious that a deck using graveyard value has a good matchup against a deck, that fills it. And adding Bojuka Bog doesn't cost too much, less than the field of ruin, if you ask me.
