@@Briannafrancis-e9g If you understood Callas' musical knowlegde, the musical debates she had with the best conductors of her time, the vision she shared with the best stage directors and film director of her time (even if she didn't almost see the stage without glasses)... The way she always kept studying the composers, trying to be creative but always in a way that respected their original style and complexity of the written music... The way she worked so hard to tame the huge volume of her voice into a subtle instrument capable of singing a main role of Wagner and a main role of Bellini in the same week, and repeat it (even knowing the parts of other roles in those operas)... The way she not only ressurected forgotten operas from the Past but also made them a trend in her Present day, learning fast but never stoping to perfect her craft. The mark of Callas in classical music, mainly Opera, still echoes to this day modern performances, the Living singers nowadays still go to listen some of Callas recordings, even if those recorgings were made back in the 1950's by a woman who was born more than a century ago. We don't need to take away anything about the amazing work of a surgeon, Humanity is big enough for exceptional working achievements to coexist in different areas. However, your sentence shows lack of musical depth and cultural knowlegde as a whole (even if you may have those, it didn't show). Not everybody enjoys Callas' voice, nor are aware of her acting and interpretation skills, but people should at least understand that Classical singing is also a physical actitivity that when you need to project over a theater with no microphones takes other level of demaning technique, you have to have both a physical and a mental domain of knowledge combined, just like a surgeon does while operating. Perhaps the main difference is that when a surgeon fails, someone dies, and in Opera death often is faked, but usually singers survive after many hours of singing in one night (exhausted though)... So I guess you might say that surgeons, and medical staff in general have more pressure than Most off the jobs in the world... Still that doesn't mean all the genious have to be surgeons (in an architect or engineer project a brigde incorrectly, it may also fall and kill people, for exemple). This is just a reflexion, don't take it as a personal atack or something, I actually liked to think of it while answering you. I admire medicine and I already worked in an hospital (even if I'm not a surgeon), But that doesn't take away that Callas was, indeed, a musical genious!
