A view of the Scottish scenery taken from across Scotland. Accompanied by the music Auld Lang Syne by The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. I hope you enjoy viewing.
I'm seriously considering learning to play the bagpipes just so that I can on special occasions go into the hills and play this song whilst thinking about my ancestral land. A single tear rolling down my chin as I play my heart out. Local children will hear legends of me; their mothers will say that when they can hear the hills singing, it is old TurtleMarcus on the bagpipes, longing for ages past. On the local pubs, men will cheer and drink a pint, when they hear the pipes in the distance. And then they'll tell stories and have a good time. One day, the pipes will become silent. And ol' TurtleMarcus will be gone. Then they'll realise that his tears were of joy, and not of sorrow. And who knows? Keep listening for the pipes. If you're lucky, on a quiet morning, you might just hear ol' TurtleMarcus, or so the legend says. Maybe someone took on his mantle and keep playing. Keep listening, children, and never forget the good times.
Ever seen the episode of the crown? The scene with former king Eduard 8 during the coronation of the queen and him watching it in his mansion in Paris and was mocking it to his friends only to later be seen playing the bagpipes alone and crying.
First New Years without my dad, and it still hasn’t sunk in yet. Cherish those around you, as you’ll never know when it could be their last. Happy New Years to you, your family, and all those who aren’t lucky enough to be with us today. 👼 🙏🏻
My mother who passed away 16 years ago was my first thought when the clock struck midnight tonight. Not the usual thing that comes to mind but i had a little tear in my eye and some warm wholesome memories. Just how i'd like every New Year to begin from this year forward. How they would want it to be. Happy New Year!
@@cmcc3721wow that comment is exactly how I felt! I’m sorry to hear that. My dad only passed away at the start of the month and it’s as if it’s only dawned on me that I’ll never see him again. I hope it gets easier 💔
my grandma passed in august and her laugh was one of the things i thought of minutes before new years. she made this night a joyous occasion for many. i’m sorry for the loss of your dad, they’re making it into 2023 through our memories of them
For all the Doctors, people, brothers, sisters, parents, great parents, aunts, uncles and friends how passed away this terrible year. For a 2021 full of health, peace and love.
Dear Elisabeth: You really were an inspiration to many people, you did so much in your life that you deserve to be received with all the honors in the house of your ancestors. I regret that I was not born in the United Kingdom and can kneel proudly before such an honorable and heroic person as you. No one will replace the void that your departure has just created. God save the Queen
Happy New Year France 🎉 I could only imagine Paris, to start the year. Wishing you all a happy healthy and safe New Year 💓🎆 January 1, 2023 ✨🇺🇸🏴🇫🇮🇨🇦🛡️🎗️☮️💙🕊️
I'm from Mexico but i really love this, it sounds so noble, proud, powerful, and even peaceful, it gives hope. It's really beautiful. I'm really glad we can have something like this among the human cultures.
I am a Russian Jew, I have nothing to do with Scotland. But in my school we, for some reason, had learned this song in the course of our English lessons. Our teacher told us that this song was in "Old English", even though it was obvious for me (a future linguist) that it wasn't true. I had learned this song, however. Now it brings me good memories. There is nothing more heartwarming, more sacred for me than other nations' songs. It is a testament to peoples' unity. We are all a big family, but some are more close to each other, like a family. That is what called a nation. May the whatever god you believe in be with you.
Lost my old pal in war. I don't know why but whenever I hear this it reminds me of him more and more and i start crying crazily. #ripbuddy Respect to all fallen soldiers and comrades who died for their country..
The magical sound of the pipe makes anyone cry if they aren't evil on the inside but i am sorry for such loss as my father lost his men as well and he is now an American Veteran may god praise you with love and you live happily.
This video is hypnotic, it makes me feel Scottish without being it.. Ever since I watched Braveheart I’ve gotten interested in learning about Scotland and her history! If Scotland wants out of the UK and into the EU, SO BE IT!
When my Scottish grandfather died two years ago a bagpiper came and played this outside his funeral, and hearing this makes me remember him. God bless everyone reading this and may your year be full of joy.
I'm a 60 years old man who lives in Chile, in the south of America and the world. I studied in a school founded by Mr. Peter Mackay an Mr. George Robertson, and we learnt this song in our child's years, not only to be sing at New Year's Eve but also to sing it every time one of our friends leaved the School. Today, one of my old school friends has departed in his final journey and I wanted to sing this song out loud. It made me feel very sad but also honouring him. Thanks to all Scotland'sons for creating such a wonderful song. Best wishes for all of you.
@@thescrout9831 Well, what my grandpa told me before is that this song was started playing at the graduation ceremony of our former naval academy (that might have dated back to 1880?). That could be one of the roots of why we connect this song with farewell. And another root is apparently the movie, “Waterloo Bridge,” which is a lot of old people’s favorite.
I'm and Englishman born and bred, however after I did my degree at Glasgow University, I had fallen in love with Scotland. I found a beautiful place in Clackmannanshire called Alva. I'm now settled in Scotland with a wife and 2 kids. I bloody love Scotland. Long stand Great Britain!
If you love Scotland, let them have their freedom! They are not in the UK out of their own volition, they were forced into it, and still held back against their will, according to the last election and how they voted to remain in the EU
@@jay23cr I one hundred percent agree with you. Scotland should be indepent. It would be sad to lose the historic Great Britain, but Scotland is too culturally different.
This song was taught to me by my family, we aren't Scottish, but this one is one of my favourite, brings tears to my eyes. Brings back memories. We play it every Christmas. You Scottish folk are something else together. Best of luck to your future. Love from India.
This song gets played by me and my family every New Year’s Eve from the shores of Loch Lomond while the locals join us to celebrate. I thank you for your kind words and best of luck to the future of India and it’s people’s future, love from Scotland.
Just want to share my story with this incredible piece of music, this was my grandads favourite song. True Scott, played the bagpipes and lived in Glasgow. Two years ago he passed away and while he was on his death bed he asked to hear it one more time. At the end of the song he finally passed with a smile on his face. I will always remember him through this song. God bless you all xxx love from Scotland
I don't even know what to say. Simply beautiful, not only does it sound beautiful but the meaning of the song is great. Scotland is in my opinion one of the greatest countries in the world and I would be proud if I lived there.
My mum was born and raised in Glasgow. I've been there on vacation and have to say I've met some of the kindest, genuine down to Earth folk in Glasgow, Edinburgh and other amazing places. Though I'm only half Scots, I do feel damn proud.
I said this to the Irishman who wasn't Irish, you cannot be proud of being Scottish or of being of Scottish descent if you are not a Scottish citizen or permanent resident or of Scottish descent
I've always loved this song and play it on my bagpipes. But it also brings tears to my eyes because most of my family is gone. My parents, son, grandparents and yes including my pets. I feel so alone but my husband and remaining children is what makes me keep going (barely)
It's a horrible thing to realize how much of life is loss. The amount of pain is shocking. I hope joy can still blindside equally strongly. I'm sorry for your loss. I wish you some peace.
Listening to Auld Lang Syne leads me to the gratitude for being alive now and I feel like I might be kept alive loved by God. Great thanks be to God for this Blessing ❤
2020 was a rough ride and we shall never forget the fallen of covid- 19 . We should also remember everything good during this year. Let's hope that 2021 shall be better Love form one random Swedish person on the internet Merry Christmas, Happy holidays and of course a happy new year. God bless everyone reading.
2020 was not that bad for me till the end of October when my grandad died in his sleep first super close person I've lost in my 27 years so I guess I have been lucky but yeah this whole china virus shit is just annoying now and wish it was over but it did bring some good things like gas and shit down in the lockdowns
Every year we go on about our lives on this planet, in a far humdrum part of the universe that's travelling thru space at 67,000 mph (107,826kmh). Fantastic! Every year we become more wise about different things. People come and go. Good Times and bad. We all can have our friends, family, partners, acquaintances, enemies, hopes and downs, our darkness and our light. But if you can just keep a smidgen of hope and hold onto a piece of that good, a person, a place, even an idea, you can make it. You can, you amazing travellers of the cosmos you. May each new year be brighter than the last for the whole lot of you. I hope you all can leave even a smidgen of your dark behind in the last year and that in this year, you can make it a good one. From this Aussie In Seattle, Happy New Year mates! . Much Love.
A few days early. But I have come to this video the past 4 years. And again, I'm wishing everyone a happy and healthy New year. We all made it another year.
From Dortmund with Love Happy New Year❤❤❤ Here in Germany is already 2024... Stay Safe .. Wish You and your People, A Wonderful Year.. Greetings I'm Thomas
Tyler Reifers Many youngsters were hurt and arrested by brutal police (popo). These young people are very brave, they fight against the dictatorship and for our freedom of speech and assembly. On 31 August 2019, The police rush into the train at Prince Edward Station of our underground railway to attack the ordinary people. It’s illegal and we can call it a “terrorist attack”. Before 1997, HK is a place of freedom, but now the deterioration of human rights.

The rabbit hole that brought me to this song is three weeks long But in a nutshell, there was a story about vampires, a song by ed sheeran, an extended version of that song by ed sheeran with an old scottish folk song, the old scottish song's wikipedia page which linked to the wikipedia page about this song, which finally brought me here, to this...on New Year's eve no less...serendipity? Who cares...Happy New Year
Here's a toast to anybody and everybody who has made it to the evening of the 31st of December, Anno Domini 2020. Congratulations. You've earned it, and I'm glad you're here.
As an someone who was born in England, but has Scottish, Irish, and even German heritage, I can proudly say that this is the song of freedom, and the song that reminds us all to keep moving forward, regardless of what tragedy befalls us Long live Scotland, Long live humanity, and long live Freedom
Start playing at EXACTLY 2 minutes, 44 seconds to midnight and you'll hit the chorus right as the new year starts. There's even a PERFECT break in the song to count down from 10 right before it. :)
"Auld Lang Syne" (Scots pronunciation: [ˈɔːl(d) lɑŋˈsəin]: note "s" rather than "z") is a popular song, particularly in the English-speaking world. Traditionally it is sung to bid farewell to the old year at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve. By extension, it is also often heard at funerals, graduations, and as a farewell or ending to other occasions; for instance many branches of the Scouting movement use it to close jamborees and other functions. The text is a Scots-language poem written by Robert Burns in 1788 but based on an older Scottish folk song. In 1799, it was set to a traditional tune, which has since become standard. "Auld Lang Syne" is listed as numbers 6294 and 13892 in the Roud Folk Song Index. The poem's Scots title may be translated into standard English as "old long since" or, less literally, "long long ago", "days gone by", or "old times". Consequently, "For auld lang syne", as it appears in the first line of the chorus, might be loosely translated as "for the sake of old times". The phrase "Auld Lang Syne" is also used in similar poems by Robert Ayton (1570-1638), Allan Ramsay (1686-1757), and James Watson (1711), as well as older folk songs predating Burns. Matthew Fitt uses the phrase "in the days of auld lang syne" as the equivalent of "once upon a time" in his retelling of fairy tales in the Scots language.
To anyone who sees this, I don’t care who you are, where you are, or what you are. I sincerely hope you have a good year. Happy new years from North Carolina!
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟Magnificent, heart-warming, beautiful!!! Auld Lang Syne is arguably one of Scotland's great love gift to the world!!! This rendering with the depiction of the highlands captures the power of this music excellently. Bravo!!!
Happy New Year, from my family to yours. Hopefully 2022 is a better year for all of us. Let’s not forget those who can’t be with us to see it either. Sláinte🇮🇪
For what once was, for what now is and for what yet may be... Wishing my brothers and sisters around the world a safe, healthy and prosperous new year!!!
