Review of the Klos Apollo Bass, a high-end bass guitar with a carbon fiber neck. Carbon fiber necks are becoming increasingly popular in the bass guitar world, as they offer a number of advantages over traditional wooden necks. Composite necked basses from brands, like Modulus, Zon, Status, and even Peavey are heavily sought after.
In this review, I'll take a close look at the Klos Apollo Bass carbon fiber neck and see how it compares to a traditional wooden neck. I'll also talk about the sound and feel of the bass, and whether or not I think it's worth the price.
If you're considering buying a carbon fiber bass guitar, this video is for you!
Here are some of the pros and cons of carbon fiber bass necks:
Pros:
Lightweight and strong
Insensitive to temperature and humidity changes
Resistant to warping and cracking
Can produce a brighter, more articulate sound
Cons:
More expensive than wooden necks
Can be more difficult to find
Some players find the feel of carbon fiber necks to be different from wooden necks
Overall, I think carbon fiber bass necks are a great option for players who are looking for a lightweight, durable, and high-performance bass guitar.
In the video, I also compare the Klos Apollo Bass to a few other popular carbon fiber bass guitars, including the Modulus and the Peavey G bass. I also talk about some of the different brands that make carbon fiber bass guitars.

Great to see you back ! I had no idea they were making instruments like that one. That is crazy but very practical. It sound really good. Amazing that it breaks down the way it does for traveling. Glad somebody is thinking outside the box. This is the motherfucking way !

Awesome to see you Rodney! EDIT (after initial reaction of seeing a new video from you): That was a refreshing bass to see! Too many companies have gotten too big to actually pay attention to small customers (not endorsees). Warwick is definitely one, and my personal experience with them has been sour, as much as I love their early 1990s instruments and still use them. I can definitely relate to the truss rod situation with wood necks - travelling to Norway into the frosty weather has rendered one of my basses unusable on tour, so composites looks like are a definite way to go. More videos like this man, and hope the health holds up!

Its a little late but welcome back Rodney! A 7 pound long scale bass! I have one under that but it is headless and nearly bodyless! Certainly for a traveling musician there are several great features Klos has incorporated into their design. A removable neck is brilliant. Kudos to doing much of the design/ manufacturing is in the US. Its good to see you are feeling well enough to get out and making vids again. Still praying you may have a complete recovery.

This is the first review that highlighted the modularity of the electronics and the portability. Very cool features. Not a fan of that headstock though, but I can see why they did it if portability is a concern. I bet this bass is a great slapper with that extended fingerboard portion below the 24th fret. And maybe their replacement necks will be the secret to getting a good B string on a jazz bass due to how stiff the carbon probably is.

Always enjoy your playing man! Super informative video as always too 🤘 Quick question, Ive got a Cort B5 bass with Bartolini MK1 Soapbar pickups in it and I just cant get the sound I want out of them, they honestly sound terrible to me, even running it through my pedalboard with a Sansamp and Darkglass Alpha Omega in it. Getting stock of any type of pickup brand in my country is a massive issue, so when I replace these MK1's I need to be sure of what I get, question is which soapbars would you recommend? EMG doesnt make direct replacements for the Bartolini MK1, so that unfortunately not an option. Thanks!
@RodneyMcG
@RodneyMcG 11 месяцев назад
I get your problem. I actually rooted a few basses to fit emg because of the shape. If you are going to swap i would look at either Nordstrand big singles, or Aguilar dcb. If you do Aguilar. Use 1meg puts instead of the 500k. It will make them more aggressive.
@Jak_Low
@Jak_Low 11 месяцев назад
@@RodneyMcG Thanks for the info! Never even seen 1meg pots, will definitely look into it
@jackshittle
@jackshittle 7 месяцев назад
I've been a fan of these types of basses since 1995. I was lucky enough to have two Zon's over the years & now a Modulus. One question (since you mentioned EMG) what is your preference? Alnico? The EMG X series? I want new EMG's (for the Modulus Jazz) but they make a lot of variations & unfortunately I don't have the time or $ to buy them, install them, take them out, now buy the other model etc. You're advice on what specific type of EMG's to get for my jazz bass would help me out a great deal, thank you & cheers!
@RodneyMcG
@RodneyMcG 7 месяцев назад
I prefer the X series. Tehre's a bit more detail in them. I get more control over my compressed sound with them as well as it isn't already slammed like the regular series. I can EQ a x series to sound like a non x, but i can't get it the other way around. Good luck on the tone search.
@Farewelltokingz
@Farewelltokingz 11 месяцев назад
I think these are pretty sweet. Don’t like the tiny headstock but that’s probably part of the travel-bass appeal. Kinda sounds at least to me like a 5 string Spector with soapbars but a little less growl.
@offtherealm5438

Agreed...but I think it's better than all the "Gumby" and fairy slipper headstocks we've been seeing for decades now.

Have you heard the response of Schecter Apocalypse Bass pickups? If so, how would you compare the frequency response to that of a Bartolini MK1-5 like those on Ibanez SR505? This might be a complicated question after all…. (Basically I want the clarity and smoothness of the Barts on my Schecter replacement bass.)

Am I correct in understanding you want the barts put into a apocalypse bass?
