I encourage everyone to take the Self Mastery one-year course. I am 71 years old and am in the 11th month of learning this form which is woven throughout a year-long journey. Each person will take away a unique and personal experience of how you wish to incorporate the form into your daily practice. Aside from this form there are many practices including Qi Gong, breath work, philosophy, meditation, self massage, stances, warm-ups, and more. Rou Quan is clearly rooted in the Shaolin martial arts. In the classes you are not learning to fight but rather to experience the form for yourself. At first you mimic the master, then as you practice you 'learn' the form's hidden treasures through movement and breathing. Self Mastery comes through persistent practice, developing a life-long daily routine, and most importantly learning about your body, breath, and thoughts.

@@Transform55 I am enrolled in the online class. I would honestly say you need a high level of commitment. Not having an instructor present to point out stance corrections, hand and arm positions is a challenge with learning a form online. I have a martial arts background. This gives me some insight into the style. The key to success is to understand that the 'mastery' comes from making the commitment and creating a daily routine which you keep adding to throughout the year. Each month new practices are added. There is a live session each month also. I am 71 so my interest is in gaining strength and flexibility by practicing the movements in a slower, Qi Gong style. Adding structure to your life through these practices is very important in building character and strength.

Thank You Michael. I have a friend who is an instructor, I can eventually join a class when I have a car again. I am recovering from ankle surgery but have been doing some qi gong massage / healing techniques that are helping me understand myself as energy again. I also practice reiki.

Such a beautiful and powerful form, watching you Shi Heng Yi is poetry in motion, with each movement so precisely executed.
