“Services” can be ridiculous. My elderly neighbor had a toilet that wouldn’t flush. He paid a contractor to come out and say he would fix it for $175 and he said he’d have to come back because he just didn’t have it. I don’t know anything about plumbing so I have no idea what the issue was but my FIL does so we told him and he went over there and fixed it within minutes without needing to replace anything…

We’ve been doing this since the 1990’s (we’re old, but I enjoy your channel) even though we were not poor. I read The Tightwad Gazette (you can get it from your local library which is what I did) which changed everything about the way we lived. We still follow the lifestyle of people with a low income. My heart breaks for people that can’t make ends meet especially with children. I hope your channel can help them, but there are a lot of places to go for assistance. ❤

I’ve heard it’s now available as a pdf. on the internet. Not sure where, but I’ve heard from people saying that’s how they read, The Complete Tightwad Gazette.

This is pretty much how we do it. Fortunately no debt. We pay bills by CC, pay off in full and cash in the points. We also stocked up on foods etc. Its going to be interesting this year. Best of luck to all!

These are all good solid money principles to follow. The one thing I would add is that if you don't take risks and grow, you will always be low income. You have to invest in yourself, build your skills, and learn how to make money by investing. Whether that's in real estate, stocks, your own business...it doesn't matter- you just have to build something. Interest rates are just relatively high so it's been a shock, but historically they are right where they should be. My dad used to say, "It's hell to make a living." In his lifetime, he saw a great depression, multiple recessions, 18% interest rates. Life has always been hard.

All excellent points. Accepting challenges and taking risks and working like dogs in the early years (and for us graduating from college) made our lives what they are today. I only suggest college if you’re getting a useful degree because of the expense of it today. Interest rates back in the 1980’s were almost 14% for a mortgage. I think people need to choose a path, make plans and stick with it. And don’t have kids unless you can afford it. BC is free for most people - and I’d happily pay extra taxes if they made all BC, vasectomies and tubal ligations free for everyone regardless of income.

Good tips. I especially like the suggestion of learning skills. My father who grew up on a farm during the depression repaired everything himself. He even hand dug a swimming pool in the back yard with a shovel and poured the concrete so we could have a pool. Many are afraid to try things on their own. I'm grateful he taught me these things.

I don't understand why you don't have more subscribers than you do because your videos are very informative and thought out. You have done your research and know (from experience) what some good practices are to live frugally and financially smart. I think a lot of folks don't want to do the "work" to plan out a budget and be thoughtful about spending money. They also don't want to sacrifice having "stuff" so they go in debt and eventually it catches up to them in an emergency because they aren't prepared. Some folks have the attitude that I'll just go to the food bank or depend on family to help them instead of being financially prepared. Even though I try to live frugally I have enjoyed watching your videos and have learned a few things as well.

I had 6 months "emergency " money saved up in 2021. After reevaluating it, I needed to add to it, since my rent has gone up 200.00 a month in 2 years. My utilities and car insurance as well. Maybe when planning for months of "emergency" money, add more for the increased costs in the next couple of years.

I love your videos. So neat that you have a gas fireplace in your rv. I’m curious are either of you working right now or are you living on RU-vid income? I know you said your bills are still only 1,000 per month which is amazing. Also, I’m interested in how you invest your money. For example, the money you made in the sale of your home.

there no way you can survive on a low income without government assistance or section 8 in this economy because of the rent inflation and housing crisis. My mom is low income but I am middle class just barely! We moved for lower apartment rent ! sometimes circumstances like inflated rent is just too much on most families! this is just my opinion most families can’t afford 1500 to 2000 a month for rent. We need deflation with food cost and rent until we get lower prices nothing really helps. tips are just useless! last year I starved or skip meals so my kids could have dinner. Honestly if you can save money then you are doing better than most Americans.

What’s really funny is that if you are lucky enough to have a savings account with enough to live off of for even a few months, oftentimes social services will count that against you when you need basic help to meet your family’s needs

What's considered low income?
@raisingwildflowers
@raisingwildflowers 5 месяцев назад
It’s dependent on where you live tbh. A good place to start would be the US poverty guidelines - a family of 4 at $30K. But I would be much more lenient than that. If you are struggling to meet your basic needs and you don’t spend excessively, then your income is low.

A real job? A wage slave you mean, making the rich richer. Underpaid and overworked with absolutely no security. They're diversifying their income streams and taking responsibility for their income earning potential which is much smarter than relying on a conventional job. And that baby has two parents who are responsible and loving, not just a father.
