Never be ashamed or apologize for how you decide to support your family. If it doesn't violate the law or your morals, making money to feed your family is honorable. Congratulations on your hustle!
I so wish I had a RU-vid community like this when I was raising my kids….I was just the weird cheap one in my family ….people watch your channel because you are real and honest ….just for the record my husband and I just turned 60….debt free no mortgage and looking forward to the future….rock on Katie😘😘😘
I also wish I had this option when my kids were little. My husband had a traditional job. I couponed, cleaned houses and did secret shopping in movie theaters and stores. Between them all I made was much as I would have working 40 hours a week. Plus I set my own hours and had no childcare costs. Now we are retired and also no debt
Me too! I got lucky and early in my journey the newsletter by Amy Dacyczyn started. It was so helpful and saved us from losing everything. We learned powerful lessons from her. I never found anyone to replace her once she stopped her newsletter. But i deeply respected her reasoning for stopping and retiring from work outside the home until her children were grown. Then I believe she did volunteer work.
I just turned 60 in October. My husband and I are debt free and we have a small homestead. Our daughter is graduating with her doctorate in pharmacy in may. She’s doing a residency program for a year and that only pays about 1/4 of what she would normally make. We are still supporting her but once she finishes her residency we plan to move near her in Florida. We own several properties and plan to sell them and just settle in to a life in Florida. We are in Florida all the time, we have a small property there. It’s just some land. But we are very much at home in Florida. I have a spinal injury from a plane crash an I developed psoriatic arthritis so we realized that every time we went to Florida my pain level dropped. So not only will we get to live near our daughter hopefully I can feel better and be able to do more. Maybe I’ll finally get our channels going. You definitely can get a channel to make a profit. Many people want to see what it takes to become debt free. I say you have to want it bad enough and just be weird , cheap just like you said. I can’t tell you how many people thought we had lost our minds when we sold our big suburban home and moved to a paid for homestead. We didn’t go or do anything for about 2 years. It was all about getting debt free and being able to send our daughter to pharmacy school. It was her dream and we promised to make it happen on our part. An she lived up to her part. University Florida ! I’m so proud of her. I have 3 daughters and All have successful careers. But honestly I would be proud of them no matter there career choices. It’s good to just have raised good people. Life is a blessing! But it’s also what you make it. Congratulations on working so hard and making your life debt free! Please share your ideas with the younger generation. An even older they can break free from debt to. It’s never too late.
I've been thinking about starting a RU-vid channel but as a single mom with limited time and money, I've been unsure about it. After watching this, I think I might try. Anything to keep a roof over our heads.
I made very little money on YT in 2023 as I only have around 2200 subs, but I will say this; the minute you start making money on this platform, set 30% aside in a tax account. Not that your taxes will be that high, but put up 30% anyway. Anything less is a bad idea.
I just subscribed this morning. I've been painting and listening as I paint. I can see why you do so well. You are so generous telling others how to make money themselves. I applaud your lifestyle.
What I find appealing about you is how calm and measured you are when you talk about things. You are a natural teacher. You explain things in a way I love. Would you one day explain to a newbie how you set up and edit a channel. Love from Spain
Much respect to you for not promoting products that you would rather be frugal towards, than to buy . But i hope you get free high quality products that will benefit your homestead.. such as generators and garden/farm supplies
Yeah but as you can see her income would be more likely to double just by selling products aka sponsorships.... Some people don't care about the money but most bigger RU-vidrs try to get them.
Thank you!!!! That was so informative and interesting!!!! Love the way you want to help others make a living!!! $12,000 is good when you’re bills etc are low!!! You make it work and that’s impressive!!!! Stay warm and healthy!!!!😊
Started my RU-vid channel using my phone and free apps. (Youcut & thumb nail maker) years latter I still use my phone & free apps. Start where you are and with what you have. 😊
Great video!!!! Thank you for sharing the numbers. I really love how open you are and showing others you CAN live the way you want too. 9-5 job are miserable I love how creative you are ❤
My guess: &18k, nice job! I love your channel. I was a single mom of two girls with a low income, so your channel was helpful and more importantly made me feel better about me situation ( I’m vegan too!). Thank you!
I love your channel..I’m 75 and we homeschooled our children for 17 years… which was so valuable. Bless you and your family and you are really helping families have a light on their paths in this crazy world.
Love that you are debt free. I am fortunate that my hubby made enough money that I could stay home with my kids and homeschool, own a nice home , all four kids through college, and we are retired comfortably. Are you preparing for retirement?
It is all about content I feel like ! People seem to be interested in how to videos & ways to save money & live on less. And you do a good job of both of those. I think if you keep people going along on your journey, your channel will grow this year !!! Keep up the interesting videos !!
I may start doing utube videos at my off grid cabin in extreme north GA I’ve made a few videos for my family who btw hasn’t been able to find any time to see my beautiful cabin there is so much beauty up there I have black bears everywhere there not aggressive in any way they go to the corn feeder and eat I do not put a lot of food out for them they need it in early spring and summer when there is nothing blooming or growing yet I call it a supplement diet when a sow has four cubs to feed she needs help to keep aggressive behavior from hunger down I see probably 25 bears And 30 wild hogs and flocks of turkeys there every year I do not feed them for a month or two before the hunting season I’m an ethnic hunter I eat what I kill I don’t waste 😀
Thank you so much for explaining how being a RU-vid content creator works. I have kicked around the idea of starting my own channel for a couple of years now but wasn't sure how it all worked. You have gained a new subscriber because of this video 😊
It's about the content not the equipment and it supports the content that you are putting out. By being transparent about your income and outcome you are continuing to focus on the content and that's why I watch. I live on a shoe string that's getting shorter every month so I am curious on how you do it and intrigued in your decision skills not your lifestyle choices and maybe pick up a tip or get insight on self sufficient living.
Amazing! Looks like you have to do a 2024 instacart video 😊 I am doing freelance writing gigs again (I’m a copywriter for a nonprofit as well). Similarly people make a living doing it and I’m so motivated now to work for myself full time!
I wish you would create a Budget Planner. I enjoy seeing how you organize your monthly budget and think you have a real gift for inspiring frugal financial living.
Thank you for sharing! I have done a lot of RU-vid shorts. I didn’t make too much money this year so maybe the longer videos make you more money I’ll try it this year.
Hello from Canada. I think it is awesome to make money doing what you love. But more importantly its not how much we make but how we live within our means and finding meaning and purpose in life. I admire your creativity and simple.life. 😁
I would guess probably $15,000-$20,000 since you said you guys live frugally. Great job getting me to interact with you in the comments 😉 very good for RU-vid algorithms plus I like guessing.
There are more than a few out there trying to do the same. I like that you are more about working with what you have available. You bought the land and that is the most important. The infrastructure will come overtime but the reality is most new homesteaders don't have the means to build huge gardens and barns and the like. It has to be a labor of love. Best of luck and good on you for reaching for a better way of life for your little one and yourselves.
Thanks for sharing that information with us. I continue to watch you since I discovered your videos last year, because I appreciate your entrepreneurial and creative approach to working and finances. I also make money in several ways not just one regular 9 to 5 job and I like how you explain that not everyone has to follow the same specific script to be successful and be a good parent
I too use my phone. We honestly can't afford to invest in this very much at the moment. We are going through a very ruff period. I'm not monetized yet, trying very hard. I have enough subscribers but not enough hours. We live in an rv also. I found your channel recently and love it! Thank you for this video, very interesting. Take care and stay warm! ❤
I really like your channel. I thought about $15k for this year. People should know that it is possible to live a fulfilling life frugal with not a lot of money. ❤
I was way off, I guessed 30K, but I think I would’ve been about right if you didn’t have all the other house work projects that took up so much time. Thank you for sharing. 👍🏻
Wow I love this!❤🎉 so glad you made money, I enjoy watching your family, I find you guys so interesting and I would love to make the change that you did, sell the home and get a RV and travel ❤ great job! 🎉
I guessed 18-20k for 2023 base on your subs and views so it was a tad over. Some of the channels my husband follows have anywhere from 2-4million subscribers and are car related. One of them makes over 3 million a year and has been doing videos since 2013. He has a few million worth of cars and just had a +$3 million custom home built with an insane garage. I watch different channels with most of them being travel or food related and the spectrum is quite different with most of them probably inline with your channel. I don’t subscribe to too many channels but did subscribe to help you out. Keep up the good work!
Interesting video! I got to 7000 subs on RU-vid then have stalled so I need to get a viral video idea! Well done on the Instacart referrals, but more profitable than Amazon affiliate links!
I was going to say $10,000 for the year! You go girl! I love watching your videos and how your family just do what makes you all happy! Your living the dream as far as I'm concerned and I wish my family didn't have to rely on a 9-5. Best of luck for 2024 I hope you double your youtube income! Love Melbourne Australia 💖💖💖
Thanks for sharing. cool to see the passive income too. One channel you may like is Post10 ( he has other channels too). Another utubr who does what he wants, doesn't work a "regularjob" rural location, tons of interests, doesn't take sponsors and has never once said to like or subscribe to his videos.
Thanks for sharing! That was super interesting to see what it looks like when you make some $$ and also how it's grown so much in the last year! How/why did your subscribers grow so much do you think in 2023? Thanks 🙂
As for sponsors-for heavens sake do them all. If they’re giving you money up front take it and do the “advertisement”. If someone watching your vid doesn’t like the product or want it they can zip past it! It’s not like they’re stuck there. Never pass up a way to make extra money. Look to the future. Someday camper living will get old. Onward and upward!
$12k I guess based on your $1k/mo budget goals. I was close! I feel the exact same way about not wanting to become a living commercial on youtube. I wanted to make videos to help and inspire others. I wanted it to be totally commercial free so I wasn't going to monetize. Then one day I realized youtube was puttting commercials on my videos anyway even though I wasnt monetizing them. :-/ So I monetized. But I barely have time to make videos, much less try to turn it into an income stream. And I hate watching videos where people lace them with commercials and sponsorships.
I'm laying here listening to you and I just knew I knew you from somewhere! I live in Bradenton and think it is from my Aldi with Instacart! I wondered where you went! 😊
Both RU-vid and Instacart send 1099’s, so it is super easy to file but I do have to pay self-employment tax on these earnings. It is recommended you save back 30% for taxes. If you receive a child tax credit and earned income tax credit, however, and depending on your income, you may still receive a refund after your taxes are accounted for.
What advertisers should do is have a link below the video. Sometimes I may be interested in the future, but am on a time crunch & more interested in finishing the video. However sometimes ads are intriguing 🤔, just a thought.
With my ADHD, it’s alll over the place. 😂 it would be one thing one day, and another the next. I’m brainstorming though. I am sick of the 9-5, it’s literally killing me. Time to do what’s best for my health and my family.
I actually guessed correctly! I sure wish I could get my channel off the ground. I have 2 channels. One is ( cabin life at Eden springs) so it’s a homestead channel. But I have a husky channel. ( four husky homestead). Only we lost our pearl. Our beautiful white husky back in July she had kidney failure. And that just devastated us. We have struggled to get a final video up for her. But we are about to post it , it’s been 6 months. And that happens with me a lot, I am disabled from a plane crash. So I have a spinal injury. And my health will get me down a lot or something like losing a family member really gets me down. I miss pearl so much m I can’t even type this without crying, but I’m just ready to be strong and go forward with life. Pearl would want that. She was such a sweet husky, I’m trying, mind over matter. I want my husky channel to grew so I can use any profits to help animals. There is such a huge need with animals. So anything that channel would make will go to help Gods Animals. The homestead channel I really would like to make a profit to help us here on the homestead. We are moving to Florida next year but we are going to another homestead. Which means we are selling a gorgeous property up on the Tennessee river if anyone is interested. Just message me and I’ll get you all the information. I love it ! It has springs and water runs throughout the properties. It’s actually 2 addresses but they are side by side and we will sell them together. I’m really glad you did so well. It gives me hope. You really grew your channel so much in a year. Just think about what it will be like if you grew that much in 2024. And you can , you could totally double your subscribers. Congratulations! An thank you for sharing and giving hope to us who would like to have a profitable channel. God bless ! LA
Thank you for a very informative video! Quick question - how much money do you have to pay for taxes from your earnings? I really enjoy your videos and wish you great success!!!
Interesting to see the other channels your subscribers watch. I also sub to Austin Williams, his channel exploded last year. I think he had 2k when I subscribed early last year and now has about 77k. I guessed $13k so I wasn't far off.
NEW SUBSCRIBER! I love your honesty and that you take time to share this kind of information! I will like, comment and subscribe to support you! Thank you
