In this video, I show you how to download and install Fujitsu ScanSnap Home. To get started, you need to visit the main global support Fujitsu website (link appears above). Once you are at this website, scroll down and you will see a map of the world. Pick the region that you are in. The next screen will ask which specific country you are in. You will then be directed to a new website which is specific to your country (US link appears above). Once you reach the new website, scroll down and you will see many different options for different hardware and different products. Select your scanner and it will take you to the next screen. Again, scroll down and you will see a button that says download. Click on this. This next screen is drivers and downloads. Click download software under where it says “ScanSnap”. This will take you to the ScanSnap section of the Fujitsu website (link above). Scroll down and pick the product that you will be using the software with. Next it asks what operating system you are using. Select the appropriate one. You will reach the final screen which says "ScanSnap Home download installer". Click on the righthand side where it says download. One more time, it will ask you to confirm your location. Click the blue button below (which is the process to use if you're using a computer that has internet access). Scroll the end user license agreement and then click that you accept its terms, if you do. Look at the bottom left-hand corner of your browser. You will see that the download has begun. It will download the file into your default downloads folder. Once it is in the folder, double click it to start the process. You will get a screen which says, "Welcome to ScanSnap Home Setup". Click on next and now it will ask if you want to do a typical or a custom install. I would recommend doing a typical install. It will install the files into the standard C drive location where programs are usually installed. As for the data location, I recommend using a cloud folder like OneDrive because it means that whenever I scan any of my documents, they will already be backed up to the cloud. After this step, the installation will occur. It goes quickly. You will be asked to pick which specific scanner you are using. Select your scanner and follow the on-screen instructions for attaching the power and USB cable. Once you have done so, you will be asked to connect your scanner to your computer. Once the USB cable is connected, the software will detect it and check the connection and when it's done you will get a screen which says that the connection is complete.
If your scanner support wi-fi, the software may ask if you want to set the unit up with wi-fi. If you have wi-fi support, I recommend using it as it makes the scanner much more useful because you don't have to connect it to your computer by a cable once it is set up and you don't even need it to be sitting anywhere near your computer. You can put your scanner wherever you want if it has a strong wi-fi signal. You can use it in another room, and it'll still work on your computer through your wi-fi network. The first screen will search for the wi-fi connections in your area and show you a list of the networks that it has detected. Choose your network and enter your access password. Once the connection is successful, the software will connect through the computer and the wi-fi, back to your scanner. You will be told that you can unplug the USB cable, which means that the wi-fi connection has been successful so you do not need to connect by USB anymore because you can connect wirelessly. Unplug the USB cable. You may wish to look at the icons or lights on the front of your scanner for information on the USB and wi-fi connection (depending on your model).

Sean, many thanks for the videos that cover the ix1600 scanner. You do a fantastic job of answering the questions asked by your viewers and also dealing with issues that I would not have thought about but would eventually come across while using this device . I must say that your instruction is superior to anything that Fujitsu offers. If I were Fujitsu I would have your videos on their website; better yet I would contract you to make a package of videos that deal with all aspects of the scanner and its software (eg. MacOS, IOS, IPadOS, Android). However, until Fujitsu comes to its senses I would be grateful if, when you have the time, you address issues pertaining to IPadOS and MacOS.

Hi Wayne. Please excuse the delay in my response. That you so much for your kind words. I passed along part of your message to a colleague I have at Fujitsu. I'm not sure if they will ever contract me to make a video package but that would be a dream come true. Did you end up doing some digging into the issues around iPad OS and Mac OS? I'm not in a good position to talk about these things because I'm not a Mac user. In the future if I can grow my channel and work with a team, I hope to get someone to be my resource for Apple/Mac issues. 😊

Further to my positive comment on iX1600 on your review. I have mostly single-sheet or some not very 'thick' multi-page docs that go into a large number of directories (folders LOL) , am very hands-on controlling to manage them, so the software is fine - and no cloud use for any of that. I have small work area and this size is perfect. OK, I can get along without ethernet or connection for USB memory stick. It's staying on wifi to my desktop PC. I did download the Kofax Power PDF software but did not yet install it. I don't know if it does conversion for WORD. So, maybe will Or use it on my laptop and install Scansnap and be able to connect laptop to it. But primary computer is home desktop. I have Corel Fusion PDF and I certainly won't pay for Adobe acrobat pro subscription nor over $400 retail. I have yet to try adapter for various cards etc. I think it will work well.

I am just getting old, I am hooked up, ready to go but go WHERE/How?? I successfully scanned a walmart receipt to a folder on my drive I named TEST. I just don't understand HOW to setup & use Profiles? In all I will have 3 catagories of Receipts. Maybe more (for fun) if I ever get caught up. I will have Personal, Work & DontKnow. Yes dont know-got to ask the experts. At some point I want to see about scanning Receipts Directly to QB, if there is such a thing. But for now ,I just want to learn how to master the Beast. I tried to do Send to email & it says I need to setup Mcrosoft Acct, which I do have. I am even confused about driving this thing from my pc or on the device itself. Granted your videos do a great job explaining things to those who have basic understanding, and I did catch on to some of the useful tricks you showed. LIke scanning long receipts. Clearly, I missed the 101 course. If I'm not too HOPELESS, can you do, or recommend a Fuji IX1600 for dummies site to help me.
@SeanDillman
@SeanDillman Год назад
Hi Gladys. Thanks for your comment. I’ll do my best to respond to your points. 1. You won’t be able to scan directly to QB with this scanner. You would need something like the fi-8170 to do that, something that is TWAIN/ISIS compatible, meaning, something that will scan to third party software. 2. Getting the user profiles set up is something that Fujitsu has provided guides and support on. Please see their website: www.pfu.fujitsu.com/imaging/downloads/manual/ss_webhelp/en/top/index.html 3. Yes indeed. To scan from email, you need to connect it to an email account. I’m not sure if that is an iX1600 for Dummies book or video series available. I try my best to answer all kinds of questions related to these scanners. It has been a few days since your comment. Have you made any progress?

Hi Sean - just discovered your channel - you must have a great experience concerning ScanSnap. That‘s why I am contacting you. I bought my Scanner iX 500 in 2013. The ScanSnap Software was already in use. Now after the support for my scanner has been stopped by Fujitsu the ScanSnap Software does not work anymore with my Scanner and I cannot use anymore. Does this mean, that I have to upgrade and buy one of the newer models to continue scanning large amounts of paper (got around 60‘000 up to now) ? Any helpful advice greatly appreciated. Sean I've got an older ScanSnap- I think it's a 1500M. Will this software work on that scanner or will I have to have one of the supported scanners to use ScanSnap Home?
@SeanDillman
@SeanDillman Год назад
Hi John. Please excuse the delay in my response. I’m on a business trip and I just so happened to meet with a friend from Fujitsu. I showed her your RU-vid comment and she told me that the ‘M’ in the 1500M means ‘Mac’ and that the 1500M is indeed an older scanner. She said that she doubts that you can use ScanSnap Home with it, but she recommended just downloading it and trying to see if it will connect and if you can use it. She also said that you could also always call Fujitsu support if you want more information. If you want to be certain and know that you can use ScanSnap Home, you can of course upgrade to one of the newer scanners that are supported. My friend told me that Fujitsu no longer uses the letter ‘M’ in any scanner names because they now make their scanners work the same for Mac and PC. Thank you so much for asking me about this John. Please let me know if this is helpful. 👍

If I have multiple PCs to share the scanner, do I need to reinstall the scanner on each PC to get the ScanSnap Home software to install?
@SeanDillman
@SeanDillman 2 года назад
Hi Bob. That's a good question. I believe that you should be able to simply download the ScanSnap Home software from the Fujitsu website and install it on all of your computers and things should work smoothly. However, it may depend on how you are connecting to the scanner and which ScanSnap model you are using. If you are connecting only by USB, then you would need to install ScanSnap home on each PC and connect the scanner by USB during the installation process, and whenever you are using the scanner on any particular PC. However, if you connect by Wi-Fi, once you have connected the scanner to your network, you should be able to simply install ScanSnap home on each PC, but you should only need to connect by USB once, during the first installation process, because that is the process that will connect your scanner to your network. Once your scanner is connected by Wi-Fi, you can connect your other PCs to the scanner by Wi-Fi after installing ScanSnap Home. This also works the same if you want to connect by a smartphone. However, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, let's say that you already have ScanSnap home installed on PC 1 and it is currently connected to your scanner. If you try to connect PC 2 after installing ScanSnap Home, the software may tell you that you cannot connect because the scanner is currently connected to another computer. The scanner cannot simultaneously be connected to multiple computers/smartphones. You would need to turn off the other computer or put it in sleep mode. You could also try to close the software, but in my experience, it’s easier to turn off the computer or put it in sleep mode because there are some background processes that the ScanSnap Software runs and simply closing the software may not release all of the resources and allow you to connect the other PCs. Second, when installing ScanSnap Home, it may ask you to connect your scanner by USB. You may need to exit out of the installation process at this point and simply run the ScanSnap home software. Once you are in the software, it should automatically detect your scanner through your Wi-Fi network. This is where you need to keep in mind my above point about not being able to connect two PCs to the scanner simultaneously. I just did some testing using my PC, laptop, and ScanSnap iX1600. I suppose that it’s possible that the process may not work for you if you’re using a different ScanSnap model. You may simply need to connect by USB when doing the initial install for each new PC. In addition to the iX1600, I know that the iX1300 and iX100 also support Wi-Fi. Please let me know if this is helpful. What kind of scanner are you using?
