Paper clutter is the worst! This is a great video because I get paralyzed dealing with paper, but you gave a lot of great ideas. Including listening to an audiobook to make the long process easier!
This video is just what I need. I absolutely hate dealing with paper. Teaching all day means being gone from home from 6 a.m. until about 4 p.m. or later. I'm exhausted when I come home and some days don't even check the mail. My goal is to get a routine established this summer that I can continue into the new school year.
I JUST found your videos and I am soooooo happy now! As a fellow artist/teacher my office looks like a massive tornado hit it during the pandemic! I had to lose a whole chunk of space due to needing to install a Vocal booth, so now My desk is crammed into the corner next to the booth. I really enjoyed this video. I am overdue for paperwork decluttering. But this may have inspired me to set a timer for 20 minutes and just see what I can accomplish. I would move some of your smaller plants to your shelving system to spread things out a little. It would really make it look home. I’m a plant lover too☀️ They make me 😊
The new Calathea is beautiful. Next new plant recommendation: Pilea Peperomioides-they are so unique looking(little silver dollars). I’m a little sad about the sheet music toss (former piano student here), when you were throwing it out, I was screaming “No! Not the Sheet Music!” 😱😱. Good times though- lol! I love this video! Paper clutter makes me anxious. I usually do a big sort/shred annually,bit I do like the idea of a mid year check in to make it easier and less time consuming. Even trying to keep paper out of the house, some stuff just remains. Thanks for the tips.
This motivated me to take care of the mail like I had growing in the kitchen! We went out of town for a week so it had piled up. 🤭 If I lived alone I would probably own next to nothing.... my cohabitants would be pretty upset if they came home to an empty house.
Your system works great! We will be investing in a fire safe very soon since my in-laws recently had a fire and we now know how important a fire safe is. Right now my husband uses an acordian style file box. It works amazing for him and funny enough he recently went through it and decluttered all his paperwork from our last car. He has a magazine file (just like the white ones you decluttered) with current and short term/temp stuff. I have a different system. I have a binder with long term filing and then a binder with short term items. I have healthcare separately (since I had a baby 2 years ago and I’m not sure how long to keep all the insurance paperwork. I am scared they will bill me more haha). I also have one with manuals. One day I will look up the manuals I have (mostly baby items and some household things but definitely not all the manuals we get) and store it digitally but until then I have a small acordian case with them. Since I set up this system, I have found it very easy to keep up with. I shred things every few weeks/months depending on how busy I am and get rid of junk asap.

I got lucky. I have a drawer in my kitchen that fits a file box. I keep my current year file there for immediate filing as soon as I log it in my computer. This has really worked for me as it is just as I come in the house and is next to the trash!!!!

I am also surprised that some people treat their personal data in a very sloppy way. I also use a Crush Paper Clutter. 3:03 Clover looks very sweet there when you open the laptop. Think the thought balloons at Clover are funny. You have organized the things well.
What about cards? Do you eventually get rid of those? I've held on to sentimental ones, but they are piling up and taking up valuable real estate. I want to keep them and get rid of them at the same time. Advice?
I keep REALLY special cards taped in a journal where I also write my thoughts about the occasion. Other than that, I keep them for a few weeks and let them go.
Juliet E I like to keep special cards in my Bible but if its starts looking bad like really bunched up in there..then its time to declutter and only keep the very best ones. I was thinking also..have you thought of keeping them in plastic sheet covers inside one of those 1 inch binders?
I definitely need to do this again. I also need to start letting stores email me my receipts when the option is available. I'm constantly needing to go through receipts for stuff that I know I won't be returning. I just found one in my stack from May of 2018...sigh.
I like the idea of binders and file boxes. How or where do you store files that may contain vital information, i.e social security card, investment stuff, other sensitive documents in a safe place. Do you put them into a file cabinet that can lock? Thank youl

I shop mainly online. I get LOTS of boxes. With address labels on them, naturally. Not sure the best way to destroy that label glued on the boxes. I've tried peeling off, (not very successfully!) and also using black marker. But some of them are so bit, I can color for 15 minutes on one label! (Note, I believe you have to also destroy the bar coding on it as it also contains your info.) I actually have let boxes pile in my garage for months due to the label dilemma. Do you have any suggestions?

My parents have a wood burning stove as their heat source so once a month I send up a bag full of stuff with all my personal information on it and they burn it for me!!
Hi Kay-In the video you mentioned you don’t keep much digital media anymore...I have 100+ music CDs that I would like to get rid of, but I’m wondering what would be the best way to copy and store the CD first? It’s hard to part with them, but I just don’t use them and they take up space. Thanks!
It’s a long process but if you’re willing to rip them and upload them to a flash drive or a cloud it’s worth it. Even better is to skip the work altogether and subscribe to a streaming music service. Most likely you’ll find most of your stuff there!
Aloha!! I really enjoy your Channel. I’m so happy running into this video paper is my worse. I can’t decide what to keep or trash then down the road it comes to a huge mess for me. Digital is cool but it’s not for me I’m old school I need to see and go through paper. Mail and kids paper work is an issue. Can you help me with a easy simple system to get through this? Children’s paperwork is a problem for a lot of parents. I usually recommend that most of it gets purged every year and that only the really special things gets saved in a file if they must get saved. I often find that adult children don’t want these documents and parents don’t really look at them either. Mail really needs to get opened and dealt with ASAP or it usually ends up getting neglected. I know that’s not the answer most want to hear! 🤣
808Blessed1 I use her method. And eveytime I move....I'm like do I really need to haul this stuff again??? So I declutter the saved school stuff yet again. Believe me once you are in that situation..you really start deciding if the stress is really necessary to haul more paperwork again! So I'm down to a few!
I hate shredding. I have an extra cabinet file drawer(a box would do) where I throw everything that needs to be shredded. At least twice a year my credit union hosts a shredding event where you can just drive up and drop off your shredding. They shred it on site and I can avoid the tedious and noisy task.
