Unless one team walks head and shoulders above every other team - which once upon a time was the case with the All Blacks - you can really only talk about the better team on the day. This weekend it was Ireland, last weekend it was the Boks. Claiming more than that imho is either deliberately stiring the smelly-brown-stuff, or early signs of dementia. Being "one of the best" is good enough for the rest of us Irish. Two great games of rugby!

I’m an Irish fan. But the back to back world champions are number 1. I think we were unlucky in the World Cup losing one game but it was a knockout game I’m loving we are giving these teams great games

Ferris was making those comments tongue in cheek. All Rugby fans around the world accept that being the World Champions is the true test of who is the best team on the planet. Now, I accept there may not be a lot between the top three or 4 teams, and Ireland on their day, could beat all of them, but to win a RWC is the test, and the Boks have done it TWICE.And I'm not a Bok or Irish fan.

Facts are facts. The Boks are number 1 and we are number 2. Not much separates us as evidenced in test 2 and in numerous games between us in the past 18 months. Test 1 could have been won by us except for the English ref and his sideline pals that ensured by their ridgedness that we were penalised at every turn costing us a try in test 1. There is not only rivelry between us but a closeness that does not exist elsewhere. We have had SA coaches and players freely moving to Ireland and playing and coaching with our proviential teams. We also learn from one another and the respect between us is at another level. I would not take any notice of headline grabbing pundits. The Boks are a great team that reflects the great culture and traditions of SA. Only for a crap unjust selection process in the RWC, probably deliberately contrived by the powers that be, we could have met the great Boks in the final which would have been poetic justice. ☘️☘️

The Boks are absolutely the World #1, but there is no huge gap between the Ireland team and the Boks. 2 great games, 2 great teams and I suspect Ferris was deliberately having a laugh and was not serious…I’m Irish and and Irish fan but in the latter stages of the RWC 2023 I had to cheer on the Boks!

Here is my take. If we play a world cup right now. Chances are Springboks would go further than Ireland and reach semi, finals or even win it. So in regard to that Springboks is the best right now. That said on any given day the top 5 sides can possible beat each other in test rugby. No team is unbeatable right now. But Boks is number 1 validated based in winning world cups and compared to Ireland who has never achieved that.

If you look at the 2 tests that was played. Stats will say that SA topped ireland. Merely by points deficit. The first test SA won it by 7 clear points. The second test Ireland only won by 1 point. So looking at these 2 tests from a statistical stand point SA topped Ireland.
