The vendor, EDC Vault, is a new store on Amazon.CA and he sent the Harnds Talisman folding knife to me about a month ago. I was impressed with it the moment I saw it but it wasn't until I had used it for a few days that I was totally head over heals for this knife. The ball bearing pivot is one of the features that makes this knife extra special - the smooth action is hypnotic for a guy like me, and might be for you too. Don't say I failed to warn you!
The Talisman is a very special knife. The first time I touched a knife by Harnds was about 8 months ago, and the knife was the Blazer, it was then that I became instantly convinced that Harnds is a brand name to watch. The Talisman is, quite simply, an excellent knife. Is there room for any improvements on this knife? Not many, but yes, it would benefit with better blade steel but that is mostly due to the stigma of AUS-8 and not necessarily the performance of the blade as experienced in the testing I did with it.
Here are some links for places that you can buy your own Talisman.

Exceptional review, guy. The detail you go into with the close ups and the full breakdown images is invaluable. I had already ordered this knife before finding your review of it, just wanted you to know how impressed I am.
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 6 лет назад
Thank you Ryan. I try hard to give enough details so that a potential buyer can make a more informed decision. Expensive knives often get thorough reviews but these low budget knives often are considered by reviewers as being beneath them and they don't get many clear reviews. The way I think of it is that the customer for these knives needs to spend his $40 more wisely than the guy shopping for a $400 knife. because he has limited funds and that other fellow is more likely to not be living with the same kind of financial stresses.

My Harnds Talisman knife showed up today, and Wow! This thing really is fantastic Jake. You are again, oh so right. The liner milling has changed, since you've gotten yours. They are now milling out triangle shapes, except for a tilted square hole, milled in the middle area. My scale batteries just went dead. So I can't get an updated weight today. I continually try to fail this knife open, on purpose, but I have yet to do it. When holding this knife up vertically to flip. Once the detent is broken, this thing just flies open. I have very few knives that open this well, and none of them are better at it. Like you said. This thing with D2 Steel, would be even better. For them to make as nice of a knife as this turned out to be. It's a shame that it doesn't have D2. I bought a Harnds CK6015 Viper, with brown scales, and a 9Cr18MoV steel blade at the same time. And while this Viper is a pretty good knife. The Talisman is at a whole other level of fantastic.
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 6 лет назад
WOW, I replied to your comment yesterday but when I checked today my reply wasn't there. :( I am very impressed with the workmanship on the Talisman, it is a well built knife indeed. If it came in more handle color or material options I probably would buy them all.
@SteveKluver
@SteveKluver 6 лет назад
I would buy them all too! Today was my first full day of carry, and I am now ordering a few more tonight, for Holiday gift giving. I've gotten some other pretty spectacular knives this week as well. Among them. The Italian Steel Will 3.5" Cutjack, and a Kizer Roach. Both fantastic knives, but not nearly the same bang for-the-buck, as this Talisman gives me. I did get batteries put in my scale today, and this Talisman comes in at 146g/5.15oz.

Great review, Jake! I love this knife as well. One point of criticism I have is the finger choil, which is slightly too large so that my middle finger rest in that no man's land between the choil and the rest of the handle.
@CanadianCuttingEdge

Ahhh, yes, can see that finger choil issue on some sized hands. Thanks for pointing that out, and thanks for watching. :)

Awesome knife Jake , I love Aus8 , much better than the 8cr9mov line of steels which I struggle with .

AUS-8 when it is done right, it is a decent steel. If it wasn't then SOG wouldn't exist - for example.

I really like mine also. A very sweet flipper. I was lucky to pick it up before the price hike. Paid around 30$ CDN for it now Gearbest as it around 44$cdn. Still a very good knife, rival easily the kershaw budget line

What a gorgeous knife. You can get it at Fasttech for less than $30 U.S. - shipped. To me the milling of the liners is pretty good. So the weight is mostly meaningful material that should make it a more durable blade.
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 7 лет назад
Yeah, I saw it at FastTech too. I just don't send people there. I don't have any respect for the company. They lie on the customs forms and get my in trouble with CBSA as a result and then tell me I have to make a special request if I want them to be truthful on their customs forms. -They call knives "electronics" which sounds good on the surface, but only to guys who aren't thinking far enough down the road, at least in Canada, CBSA can confiscate a package if the contents don't match what is on the form. That happened to me three times from FastTech and they would not make it right, no refund, nothing, and basically told me it was my fault for not asking them to tell the truth...
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 7 лет назад
Yeah, except that I don't direct people to FastTech. They lie on their customs forms by default. I buy a knife and they claim that inside the pkg is "electronics" To the guy that doesn't think to far that might sound like a good way to get the knife into the country. NOPE! In Canada anyway, CBSA can confiscate a pkg if the contents don't match what is on the customs forms. I lost 3 knives from FastTech that way. They would not make it right. Not even a partial refund. NOTHING. But they did blame me for not telling them to tell the truth on the packaging. IF I had told them then they would have put "cutlery" on the pkg, but since I didn't ask them to state that it was cutlery it was therefore my fault that CBSA confiscated the knives. So, that is why I don't send people to FastTech. GearBest also usually, not always, charges less than FastTech and they have ALWAYS made it right when there was a problem. And yes, there are problems sometimes with GearBest's shipping. And their service is slow, and their service doesn't always make sense to our western culture, but eventually as long as the customer stays respectful they do make things right and that is why I have teamed up with GearBest.
@joep5337
@joep5337 7 лет назад
I finally understand why you've said in the past you don't like Fasttech. I haven't ever looked at the packaging to see what it says about the contents. I just rip it open like a kid opening a Christmas gift. I live in the States and I can say I've never had to deal with customer service as the many knives I've bought from them are usually here in 10-14 days. But if I had your experience, I'd be furious. THEY BLAME YOU FOR THEIR STUPIDITY / DISHONESTY. Your recommendation of GearBest's customer service is much appreciated.

I got that knife aswell after I saw it in one of your previews (I think). Mine is instable -__- I can`t get the backside screw tight enough so the whole knife is wobbly. Otherwise great knife but that is a total fail in my books. Going with only 2 screws to hold the entire knife together was a pretty risky move.
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 7 лет назад
Yeah. I would contact them and see if you can get warranty on the knife. They should at least send you new screws I would think. The email address that I I used to contact them when they send me some knives to review (not this Talisman) can be found on their website it is: harnds@163.com

@CanadianCuttingEdge

I i is a bit pricier than a lot of the other 'Made in China' knife brands like Ganzo, but their fit and finish on this knife is higher than what I have seen on Ganzo - that is why I think it is worth it. BUT, I can only speak hypothetically because I got mine for free - I cannot say that I would come to a different conclusion than you do if I had to pay for it myself. I think I would still want it for the price that EDC Vault has it but I cannot say for certain.

A nice knife with super smooth flipper. I do not find it too big. I bought it in flash sale at gearbest.com.
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 7 лет назад
Cool, I have a friend who got it on a flash sale as well, and at that sale price it is EVEN harder to resist. I really wish they would make it with solid carbon fiber scales and S35VN or some other super steel, that would be so great!! Even just carbon fiber and D2 would make it a whole extra level of wonderful.
@rocketfox406
@rocketfox406 7 лет назад
I agree. The AUS-8 steel is a bit cheap, not really bad, but there is better steel. The D2 does not have to be expensive, you can see at the Y-Start Jin02, which I recently bought from the flash sale.^^ Premium steels like S35VN would probably raise the price significantly?! ;-)

I don't mind it for pocket carry. Maybe a bit big if one were dressed formally, suit and tie, but anything business casual to full casual should be fine - in my estimation. BUT, we each have our own limits as to what we like to carry and there is nothing wrong with that at all.

@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 7 лет назад
You need to remember that my comments are always in the context of low cost knives. There is definitely room for disagreement, and there are definitely MUCH nicer gentleman's flippers in the marketplace, but Yes, I do think it is a gentleman's flipper, the fit and finish is that nice. I would like it to be 10% smaller and have solid carbon fiber scales and a super steel and then it would be an even better gentleman's flipper in everyones' books.
