I just received on of these last week. It has the plastic handle as well -- I might replace it. I've seen a few reviews for this particular model (all of them good) but they always miss what the tip menu is doing. The reason you need to match the tip to the unit is that each tip has an integrated temp sensor that can have a 30C error. So each tip must be calibrated to the unit. If you push the knob and turn it to the left while holding it in the tip calibration menu appears and you can then enter the correct temperature for each of three temperatures. I bought 2 real Hakko tips for this unit (from Hakko) -- they were 30C too high. After calibration the display will show that the tip is calibrated by putting * after the tip name instead of a zero. After calibration my tips were +/- 5C. Hope this helps.

Robert Bennett - very helpful, I suspected that to be the case but hadn’t gone into the calibration yet, I might do a follow up video to demonstrate that so that it is also covered.

The power supply has Live, Neutral and Earth connections, but the STM32 board has only 2 connections to the power supply: VCC (red) and Ground (black). The handle is connected to the STM board, so it has V and Ground, no earth connection. (I take it that Neutral on an AC circuit is the equivalent of the Ground on a DC circuit since Earth connection is not always available). How is it possible to get an earthed tip? Am I missing something? (I'm not an engineer so this is probably a stupid question but I like to learn)
@TheDefpom
@TheDefpom 5 лет назад
The case is earthed, so it is getting it from that.
@topouzidd
@topouzidd 5 лет назад
@@TheDefpom I just used my multimeter to do some testing. The chassis (case) is not grounded, there is no continuity or beeping on the multimeter when I measure the case and earth connection on my wall socket's earth pin, but the tip is definitely earthed. The tip shows continuity to the earth pin of the socket, to the ground pin of my aerial connector (tv antenna socket on the wall), and to the kitchen sink. The tip is 100% earthed. It would be excellent if the case was earthed as well.

I would highly, highly encourage everyone to take a look at there soldering handle. I pulled mine apart and discovered the the red wire had completely disconnected and was brushing against the ground! That's a great way to start a fire or damage your fresh new station. As I needed to fix it with my other soldering iron, I'd encourage you to buy the upgraded handle along with this station or already have a soldering iron to repair the handle with

I quite enjoyed the review, I have one on order as it looks like a simple to use station, I don't see the point of the latest version with full colour screens and the like, they don't make the iron work any better when soldering, having the ability to make a lot of adjustments according to what you are soldering is a good idea, electronics has changed so much since I started, I am used to a basic Antex 25W iron that I have used since the 70s, If I needed to do electronics I did a lot of it at work and had access to soldering stations and even a solder bath, Now I am getting back into electronics just for fun and having a lot of fun getting set up to do a good job with the latest electronics, so different to when we had the odd chip and everything was through mounted components

Wow hand bags at dawn. That’s you off the Weller Christmas card list. I remember all those crap yellow Altai soldering irons I had growing up in a selection of wattages. Had many cheap irons before I got my first Weller Magnostat iron. I have been a Pace iron user for the last ten years and apart from their crap desoldering pump I’m happy. Having said that I’m not unhappy with the cheapo none temperature controlled irons I used back in the day. I’m not say that high quality irons don’t have a place for fine work such as SMD but I could probably manage most of the time with a hot nail. It’s amazing the performance of these modern irons at very low cost. But I’m afraid I’m a fashion victim these days and won’t have a cheap iron on the bench. Still that’s a well featured iron and a very good review. I’m busy with work so taking a RU-vid holiday it’s -1 here with heavy snow forecast. Regards Chris Ps I would hate that metal handle LOL.

I have a similar T12 soldering station as this one, though the menus are less extensive, and the build quality uses a bit more glue and fewer internal connectors. But these knock off T12 stations are rather decent, if only Hakko could make a station with a more user friendly interface and a less steep price, that would be nice.

I have recently purchased one. Rather pleased with it. However, mine has a plastic case which cannot be remove as the front screws are covered by the front panel. Also, the the numbers on Ruud Boer's v good manual, do not necessarily line up with the menus. i.e my language change is on #13 not #10, as per his manual. Had me going for a while as my Chinese is nil.

Normally it is fine, a few channels have been reviewing the unit at the same time, and based on how popular my one was they must have sold a lot of them causing them to go out of stock suddenly, I guess the restocking lead time is the issue there.

The Defpom - Please measure the rods used within. I paid for one of these 2 months ago (still waiting for it but it's supposedly only 23 days away) and have seen many offers/discounts/coupons for the rod/tip device used by these... But I was never able to order any of them because KSGER doesn't tell you what the included T12 units sizes are. It is arriving with a chisel tip, but I most often solder SMD devices like resistors so I need an extremely fine tip! I haven't been able to take advantage of any discounts of advantage because I cannot get an answer for the size of the rod/tips used by this. So long as the units I buy are standard 10k ohm units I have little to fear as changing a few wires is no problem at all.

Nice review, but should've included some actual soldering too. I'm about to buy one of these, and I really like these tips. Sleek design and cheap too, or at least the Chinese (knockoffs ?) off Ali Express. I'd like to know how this KSGER handles. And also some info about the different tips would also be nice since there are about a 100 different of these. Surely you can't point out for what every tip is supposed to be used for, but some general info would be nice. Some sellers on Ali Express have kits of 100 tips for like ~$100, which is quite unnecessary really, but nice that the option exists though. I've seen what looks like these tips being used for phone repairs, and if I'm not mistaken, Louis Rossman uses these too. I'll probably search for some more info here on YT, but I was a bit disappointed not to see that here as this was the first search result off Google. Right now I'm using a budget soldering station called goobay EP6 (OEM-crap?) which is actually my first one with LCD and digital. It's also quite quick. Takes about 20-30 seconds to heat up, which is somewhat fast. However, it came with a fat and round tip which isn't suitable for SMD's, so I'm looking at this iron. Also, the replacement tips that are available are small conical, large angled tip, and large chisel tip (some 2 mm wide).
@YnotWeird
@YnotWeird 4 года назад
@bojo perez Well, I'm a week (or two-three) away from finding out. I ordered the Quicko STM32 OLED off Ali Express along with an assortment of 10 tips, and I'm very excited to find out how good/bad it is. I do hope for the former since I really will need it for my project I'm working on which includes lots of small SMD's.

There's also a newer version, firmware 3.1s. I am still going to order the 2.1s one reviewed here, seen a few reviews of the 3.1s and they all have the new simplified ui on the display, missing some useful features. A dreadful cheap font was chosen for the temperature readout which looks harder to read than the font displayed on the 2.1s. Plus there aren't any improvements in the hardware worth mentioning. So, save a few bucks, I'll pick the stainless steel handle instead and some extra tips. Thanks for this excellent review!

Is the 2.1s and the 3.1s the same unit, just with different software? Cheers
@rafenwulf
@rafenwulf 4 года назад
@@liam28rowe I wasn't so sure about it either. I looked at the pictures on AliExpress, they include some with the unit opened, and the depicted pcbs look exactly the same. But later on I saw a video by Vladyslav Verbytskyi, and his version 3.1 does have a completely redesigned power supply and controller board. When Vladyslav went through the menu options I noticed his unit had hardware version 3.1 but SW version 6.2M which I hadn't even heard of yet. The menus in 6.2M are different as well. So I was a little confused now. There apparently are two completely different HW versions 3.1. It could be a fake, according to the commenters in that video, but they ARE sold in KSGER's store on Ali, in their category "Russian soldering stations". Odd. Also noticeably cheaper than the regular 3.1 stations. For me no matter, I ordered the 2.1 version already, with the blue plastic grip. Read a buyer review for the stainless handle, the tips didn't fit snug in the handle, they wobbled about, that's no good of course. But, to answer your question, the 2.1 and "not-Russian version" 3.1 do have the same hardware, but different software, which I also found confirmed by a review on Ali that included pictures (he did describe he had hardware 3.0 and software 3.1 so I think there's a mistake on KSGER's behalf). Hope I didn't confuse you there (I certainly got confused so I had to investigate), and hope it helps. Cheers!

@@rafenwulf have you had a chance to use the blue handle? i have also decided on the 2.1 version, it is tested and proven, but not so sure which handle to choose, as for the blue handle the downside i see is mainly people saying its not the most ergonomic in the hand, but it has the shortest distance to tip from all the other handles
@rafenwulf
@rafenwulf 4 года назад
@@ronteller2217 I actually went for the blue handle, not a metal one. Didn't like the the idea of a handle that could conduct heat and electricity in my hand. It's pretty good, nice and grippy, and the rubber flange at the end keeps your fingers from slipping towards the tip. Ergonomics are fine, maybe if you have really small hands that would be somewhat less. But it's comparable to an ordinary iron, a litlle narrower. I've also read reviews on other handles and this one seems the best one for changing tips, they fit snug but not too tight, in other handles the tips are hard to insert and remove, or wobble in the handle. So the blue one is a good choice. Also did a check on the innards, all solder joints looked okay, the power supply also looked fine inside. I removed the heatsinks on the transformer board and filed of the bits that were in contact with traces on the pcb just to be safe. I applied some CPU thermal paste when I but them back on.

Which quicko do you own? For example t12 951/941/led seven segmented display ones probably don't have a useable menu. But if you own a oled one, then it definitely have a menu.

Can you change the temp display to show Fahrenheit?

JL Sagely - I think that was in the menu system, but now I cannot find it, so maybe I was dreaming it.

Is it a review or advertisiment? What about to solder something? Performance against any other type of station? This is a video with no value at all...

Rudolf Semenský - me soldering something isn’t really going to tell you anything, obviously it will melt solder. I certainly don’t agree with you when you say this review has no value, I showed all of the menu system and how to use it (except for calibration of tips, I missed that bit) and I did show how quickly it heats up, which is a good indicator of its power output, I did also state that it worked better than my fake FX951 (which in itself worked better than my previous iron), I even took the time to find a manual for it and shared it here.

Its hard to test this type soldering iron you know why (insert racism) becouse it depent on the tip if you have original tip its performance it beter than the fake one even if you use same soldering iron fake or not (ksger vs hakko in this case) it probably same if it use same tip

@@TheDefpom and i recommend to buy from Aliexpress than banggod there a old version that very cheap you good blue handle and get 4 tips for 40 ish dollar the newer its more exspensive that you got 2.1 around +50 and only get 1 tip (i got 2.09 ish i forget what ver)

The K knife tip seems to be the most universally useless tip they could have included with it.

Hey! I like the K knife tip.

I have used the knife tip a fair bit, it is more a case of what you get used to I think.
