Calibration of tips on the KSGER is actually pretty easy, you just need a suitable tip tester such as the FG-100 to see the actual temperature then you can set the actual temperature on the KSGER.

Just thought I would add for anyone new to calibrating solder tips. Hakko recommends to let the fumes (smoke) dissipate after adding solder to the tip before taking a reading. This is to make sure that the flux burns off and doesnt interfere with the reading. I can say for certain that for me this made for a very accurate reading with the fg-100. My ksger station is +-2 deg at rest, where before doing this it was +- 8 deg. Great vid btw

Hi. Sir. Your video is great. The filming is professional and all. The sound is 10/10. I am not an anglophone. Hence, I would like to tell you that following you is hard for two reasons. First you speak fast and that can be corrected. Then, unfortunately you have a british accent and that is not your fault, perfection his hard to achieve 🤩. Hi! My KSGER (version 2.1S) displays a wrong tip temperature when completely cold. At 24 C in the room measured by the handle's NTC, the measured tip temperature is 57 C. That's the same for all my 16 tips I have... I suspect there's something going wrong on the board, any idea?

Fyi my unit came with a tip that had a hard short. It caused the unit to reboot several times then go dark for good. I figured it out on the replacement unit when it started rebooting. Apparently qc isn't very good. A shorted tip? And no short protection? Also, the first handle was way to sensitive and would wake up the unit by breathing in it. The 2nd didn't wake the unit up at all.

All my 15'ish tips have a negative 77°C offset versus the reading, +/- 3-5 degrees. Is there some way to calibrate or adjust the station's own baseline temp by that much? Clearly it has to be the station's baseline that is off here (V2.1S) - no way all these tips including several original Hakko's, would all be roughly 77°C off.

Have you encountered this unit that keeps rebooting? If you have, we're you able to fix it?

My unit came with a tip with a short. If you let it reboot too many times under power like that it will kill thepower supply. You would think there would be short protection

Find it strange that a thermocouple would be 30-40 degrees off. Its a physical constant driving the voltage , and to get the metal alloy that off is remarkable. My experience of calibrating thermometers in a call lab leads me to believe it's a heat losses between the sensors (in the tip and in the tip thermometer) especially when the error seems to increase rapidly at high temperature where the losses is greater.

yes it is interesting isn't it, they were good up to about 400 degrees C, I'm do know that certain thermocouple types can only work across certain heat ranges, which makes me wonder if these fake tips are using a tc that doesn't go over 400. OR my test instrument thermocouple doesn't go above 400 very well...

Hi. I'm also testing this stations and tips, but my station is not calibrated the same way. What are your HW and SW versions? I have versions HW 3.00 and SW 3.02. There is a menu "Temp Adjust" that performs a similar procedure, but it seems that it don't work correctly (the real readings become even worse after calibration) and don't seem able to store per tip calibrations (not sure about that). The only tip I have with good results is the J02 and the best readings are after doing "Temp Init", that I belive reset the calibration values to the defaults. Cheers.

CR Tech I think not exist version above 2.1..version 3.x is fake. Last version from Ksger is 2.1. Maybe your version is equal with OLDER version from KSGER.

I played around with this a bit because only 1 of my tips making it to 455c cal temp. It was a real Hakko JL02, but I have a few other real Hakkos that did not get to the 455c. After calibrating the tips I set the temp too 455 and all of the tips went to the set temp so I know the KSGER station can get to 455c with all of the tips. The only thing I can think of is that the cal points are predetermined set point looking for currant draw at a predetermined temp setting instead of looking at actual temp or voltage drop at the thermocouples. Anyway what ever they are doing it works well. All of the tips are with in 1-4 c of set temp with a few of them being right on the money. Anyway thanks again!! Regards, Spence

All the tips, if they are new..must be heated at 300-350 degree for one hour before start calibration.

Thanks for showing this. I knew it could be done but wasnt sure how. The funny this is my KSGER was pretty spot on out of the box and was better then why real hakko fx951 but now it just blows away the fx951. Its with in 1 or 2 of set temp on all the tips I have even the cheap one I have from Banggood. I was playing around with it a bit and found that if you do a cal and let it stay on for a good 10 min or so and then do a recal you can even get it closer to the set temp... Anyway thanks again!!

Yes it is good being able to calibrate it like that, very easy to do. I am not 100% sure that the >400 degree issue I had is the fake tips or the thermocouple tip tester I was using.. now I might need to buy another one to see.

Yeah same here none of my tips got that high even the few hakko tips I have. They are T-15s but I really don't this there is much difference in the T-15s@@TheDefpom

Oh I wanted to ask you if the handle that you have for your soldering station gets hot ? The one I have gets hot down by the grip and I end up having to move my hand. Thanks

@@TheDefpom I just did a cal on a new JS02 tip (real hakko) and it went right to 461c in the 1st step so may be the element gets so weak over time that it just can't get there any more? Just a thought.

@@chefbink61 - I use a metal handle, it seems fine I haven't noticed any issues with it getting hot. but then I tend to only use it for maybe 30 seconds at a time whilst fixing things. After a few minutes it goes to sleep and lowers its temperature.

Mine won't do it on screen but my tips are all WAY over. Even after calibration it's all 50c over. (it never actually reaches the high temp for calibration, surely throwing things off)

Do you regret getting this station? I mean, I know there have been some issues you needed to resolve. I ordered it and then saw all the negative feedback. I'm a hobbyist, and I intend to see the earth ground fix added.

Not at all, my one has been perfect, it the best station I have owned, it works well and I have been happily using it for a long time now, I think the negative comments are from people picking up clones of this unit (or possibly different revisions of it).

I like mine, if you get the aluminium handle it may require some mods also but it is sooooo comfortable in the hand.

Advicable to run a new tip hot for 5-10 minutes before calibrating, at least the cheapo ones. They seem to be all over the place the first few minutes. To avoid unneccessary oxidation, you can coat the tip in solder before letting it sit those 5-10 mins. The original Hakko tips I have have all been pretty much bang on from start so I think those are "run in" during quality control. If you do this, the tip shouldn't chsnge unless it starts failing. But never hurts to do some spot checks once in a while.

In my opining, if you talk slower the Yanks might be able to understand you a little better. Respect. It's almost perfect at .75 playback speed, speed of electrons must be a little faster on your side of the globe. lol

More likely a limit of heater capacity than thermo couple error. If the heater has reached maximum power then no more temperature rise, thus a maximum temperature is reached

Helmuth Schultes - the read back on the KSGER wasn’t lagging behind, so I believe that it is at the limit of the thermocouple range.
