Sami is an 8-year carnivore diet enthusiast from Japan who has an intriguing story to share. She faced a daunting challenge when diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, with metastasis to the liver and lymph nodes, two years ago. Miraculously, she's here today thanks to her commitment to a ketogenic carnivore diet.
She advocates for a metabolic approach for cancer, and had learned directly from Professor Thomas Seyfried of Boston College. She is not cancer-free, but is about to manage it very well with Ketogenic metabolic therapy.
In this she tells her story and teaches people from her mistakes and successes to hopefully guide more people down the right path so that they too can manage and suppress their cancer too. Enjoy!

Very good interview. My mom and I switched to carnivore about 14 months ago. My mom was 70, 155-160lbs (too heavy for her), highly addicted to sugar. Had a hx of COPD and emphysema from 55 years smoking. Diagnosed with right bronchus lung cancer about 3 months after changing diet. I truly believe had she not lost the weight and changed her diet she’d be dead by now. The tumors (2) were quite large. She’s a healthy, fit looking almost 72 year old with lots of energy at 108lbs now. Underwent some low dose chemo and still doing some radiation. She quickly responded very well and they stopped the chemo. In 3 months her previously collapsed right upper lung has inflated without intervention. The tumor blocking the main bronchus is resolving very quickly. She’s had zero symptoms. Her drs are amazed at her progress. Never had any abnormal blood work. They didn’t believe the first few lab draws and kept having her go back. She has less than 10g carbs per day if any. She no longer has high blood pressure she’s had for 10 years. No more feet/lower led edema. Hemosidian staining resolved. Chronic smokers cough resolving. No more shortness of breath. No more stress incontinence. No more arthritis. She’s good about her electrolytes and iodine drops. She’s using nebulizer peroxide, daily minerals, and soursop tea. Her recovery had been nothing short of miraculous. The cancer center recommended sugar and seed oil laden protein shakes due to her size and fruit juices. They also push sugar and carbs during treatment by offering those as ‘snacks’. They never once offered any nutritional information other than standard American whatever you want to eat. We also cured her bout of c-diff without more antibiotics. We’ll never go back to the standard American diet. Never.

42:50 I was in residency taking care of a wonderful but profoundly diabetic (40 year old!) Puerto Rican native man. He'd had a below knee amputation on one side prior and I started caring for him on a consult service after they took part of his other foot, and were about to take him back to cut off his entire foot and most of the lower leg... The day or so after he got out of surgery they started him on solid foods, and he got a "diabetic auto-tray" since he was not well enough to specify his order. It was breakfast, made to the diabetic guidelines... It was eggs, three pancakes, and hash browns... *But with two sugar free syrup packets* He had no idea that disease was not a terminal life sentence. He almost died of sepsis, twice, and this was the best we could, or would, do for him? As a resident, even offering a carnivore diet to patients was a non-starter. He'll likely never meet his grandchildren. After I left the room I went into the stairwell and cried. This doesn't have to happen.

I'm really sorry to hear that. It's depressing to see people suffer when you know that you can do something to help them. I try to talk to people on my own time and just point then in the direction of videos that they could watch is they wanted to learn something that could help them. I don't think I could handle not saying something when I knew it could save their life. The great thing about my current practice is that I intentionally have a lot of time to spend with each patient, so we can go into detail about things like this.

Also very impressed with Dr Chaffee listening intently and letting Sami talk. My mom was from Okinawa and died at 52 years old from stomach cancer even eating what was considered healthy in the USA. I wish she had known and applied what Sami learned she would have still been alive today.

Sami is a shining example of how resilient the human body can be. From such a broken state, she has recovered (albeit with cancer consequences) and I was delighted to hear her story. At aged 24 I underwent a traumatic experience and developed bulimia which continued for 10 years. During the following 33 years I struggled to eat a ‘balanced’ diet, had terrible IBS, mood swings, blood sugar control and continued worries about food and my weight. Thanks to RU-vid and discovering the keto, then Carnivore diet I am at last free of thinking about food. It makes me cringe to hear that the Carnivore diet is not recommended for people who have suffered from an eating disorder. That’s EXACTLY who would benefit mostly imo. I am now 63 and have been Carnivore for about 3 years. At last I am living a life where I can eat til I’m full, twice a day, walk away from the table and not give it a second thought.....it’s fantastic 😊. Thank you Dr Chaffee and Sami

When I hear stories like your own and Sami’s, it makes me think there MUST be something in this restrictive diet choice…despite all the contrary arguments designed to baffle us “ordinary people”! And also despite the supposed “Leading Scientists” like Christopher Gardner pontificating about “the vital importance of fibre for the gut microbiome” etc on podcasters like “ZOE”. The reason female “ love “ veggies is that we were told and clearly lied to that veggies help you drop body fat and normalize hormones especially those in or near perimenopause / menopause .. it’s a sad lie … if anything they should be told to concentrate on eating meat & maybe Whole Foods . Doctors like Anthony Chaffee are growing in numbers as well as the community of carnivore people like Sami who have seen the light and encourage the truth about real health to the “dark side”. I too was suffering from diabetes, peripheral neuropathy, 60 pounds of excesss water and visceral and superficial fat, frequent urination, ED, finger joint osteoarthritis, vision impairment, sleep apnea, brain fog, etc. and the carnivore diet has reversed all of these metabolic conditions 80 to 100%!!! I am so grateful for Dr. Chaffee as he and other carnivore heroes have changed not only my health but countless others now and into the future. God bless to all and may the entire world wake up to food that is truly healthy and plants and their processed forms that are actually poisoning us!

Professor Thomas Seyfried's work is pretty groundbreaking. Would advise anyone unfamiliar but interested to look into it. Metabolic model of cancer. The biochemistry and cell energetics alone should inspire revolution in thinking about cancer patient care. Certainly the use of a clinical ketogenic diet to improve patient outcomes and manage the disease. Of course, there is still a great deal of resistance from all the usual suspects as accurate nutrition and a metabolic approach to health is frowned upon despite the mounting evidence and biochemistry in support of it. Early comment, looking forward to this conversation. Proud to know one of the best carnivores and a pioneer in a metabolic approach to nutrition and health, Dr Chaffee, is here in Perth AU.

I posted above too, but I wanted to say something here too. I currently have cancer and have been using fasting and food to treat it. Then I see this- Is autophagy safe for someone with cancer? Autophagy plays a complex role in cancer, acting as a double-edged sword. On one hand, autophagy can protect against disease by removing harmful pathogens and damaged cell parts, acting as a cellular bodyguard. This process is beneficial in preventing the onset of cancer by maintaining cellular health and integrity. However, once cancer is present, the scenario changes. Autophagy can also aid cancer cells in surviving under stress by providing them a sort of "secret hideout" during their battle against the body's defense mechanisms. This means that while autophagy is generally a protective and beneficial process, it can inadvertently support the progression and survival of cancer cells under certain conditions. Research is exploring this paradoxical role of autophagy in cancer, with studies investigating how manipulating autophagy levels might affect cancer therapy. For instance, certain drugs traditionally used for other ailments, like hydroxychloroquine, are being studied for their potential to disrupt this survival tactic of cancer cells by inhibiting autophagy. Given this complex relationship between autophagy and cancer, whether autophagy is safe or beneficial for someone with cancer depends on various factors, including the type and stage of cancer, overall health, and specific treatment plans. Individuals with cancer must consult with their healthcare providers before making any changes to their lifestyle or treatment plan that could affect autophagy. Healthcare professionals can provide personalized advice based on the latest research and the individual's circumstances.

LOL. She explained it! I'm not a big fan of bad boys... When I realized that going carnivore meant that I didn't have to pretend to like vegetables anymore.... I was sold. I tell people about it, and they say weird things like, "I actually like vegetables." Which just confuses me. My daughter is the same way. We were eating a meal and there were vegetables on the table. As soon as I said that, vegetables were actually bad for you. She replied, "That means I don't have to eat vegetables." And pushed the plate away. She hasn't touched a vegetable since.

Carnivore was the only thing so far that I have seen so many positive changes. A work in progress. I am thankful to have found this diet. I started with doctor Berg , then Dr. Ken Berry and Dr. Chaffee, and all your guests like Dr. Elizabeth Bright. Game changer were fixing my hormones and such.

Great conversation, Dr. Chaffe you do a great job holding space for your guests instead of talking all over them like some podcast hosts. I love that you are also willing to go against the grain and challenge the constructs of modern medicine. I'm not a carnivore but my wife is and its helped her in a lot of ways and opened my eyes up to a lot of people who are healing because of it. Sami is inspiring in taking such an active role in learning about nutrition, glucose, ketones & Dr. Seyfried's work. Videos like this give a lot of people hope as well as options to try.

To date,on my carnivore journey and all my testing I do, (wife too) using GKI has been the best indicator I have used to determine where I am at throughout the day with my diet. What I have learned is that protein is overrated and fat is where it's at! Protein tends to raise my glucose. When i decrease my protein intake and increase my fat, my glucose goes down, and my ketones go up. If I eat a ribeye, I must add more fat. Some really smart guy says, "Don't fear the fat"!! I am a believer in testing and the GKI.

Honestly, I don't follow the food guidelines at all- I'm 100% strict carnivore and have never felt better. But, you know what, if we had any recourse on the information given to people about what they ought to be eating, I might think differently. I'd love to write a letter of complaint to whoever is behind 'the guidelines'. These stupid guidelines killed my father and almost killed me. Where do I address my letter of complaint please? Sami, I have so much respect for you. You and Dr. Chaffee are both life changers. I shared this video to a Japanese friend who may be your age and who has an eating disorder, neuropathy of an entire arm and whose husband is stage 4 Cancer. Been helping them in terms of meals for over a year now but I had no idea about carnivore. So I’d prepare fish, some meat, veggies, legumes, and always give them fruits and herbs from my yard. Baked cheesecakes, pies, seed breads but used monk fruit or stevia for sweetness. They always loved anything I shared and I do feel bad feeding them crap. I hope you both can help this couple. The husband was told he can eat anything except sugar. I myself have been a month on strict carnivore and have reversed PreDiabetes. Also my osteoarthritis has disappeared. Hubby with Hashimoto’s lost 12lbs. on this diet too and goodbye to fatigue. We celebrated our accomplishments eating out in a shabu shabu restaurant ordering only beef and lamb. I ordered pork broth to cook the meets in. Next day I felt like someone beat me up. All my joints are inflamed and I have a headache which rarely happens to me. I wonder if I ingested MSG and other toxic spices in the broth. More power to you Sami and Dr. Chaffee 🎉

AGREED... Thinking about things (food intake) interms of calories is not the way to go about it. It should be your Good FAT:Protein ratio, that is your focus.. And the proteins are not coming from incomplete protein sources.... i.e. PLANTS.. They're coming from MEAT - PERIOD! KETO is not a bad way to get started.. unfortuneately... most of us are sugar or "sweet" addicted and KETO allows us to consume 'other" sugar substitutes, like stevia, erythritol, monk fruit.. Well here are the facts.. SUGAR IS SUGAR IS SUGAR.... You do need to ween yourselves away from the sweets. I know it's not easy.. as the sugar/sweet addiction is deep for many of us.
