The thing that worries me most about the whole FAA delay thing is that if this keeps happening (like when they switch to V2 or V3), SpaceX might get upset enough to start heavily leaning on Congress (probably with the tepid approval of NASA and the DoD) to get the FAA out of their way on some random pretext. Like "congrats FAA, here's your increased funding. Oh and btw you now, by law, can only delay launch licenses when things on this list (written by SpaceX lobbyis- I mean independent experts) are your justification by 10 days max. Deal with it. Love, your rulers, the totally-not-guided-by-money members of Congress". Which is a precedent that I would be very very anxious about setting, and it's why I really hope the FAA aren't about to start acting spitefull or believing themselves untouchable, because they will absolutely regret that. SpaceX can't strong-arm them, but Congress very much can if given a justification, which frankly Artemis almost is already.

What would the scope of the damage look like if the booster came in to hot or misaligned in some way?

In terms of the catch of the booster…if the landing is misaligned could the grid fins stand to withhold the booster weight wise?
