Love the whole thing. I picked up an El Pescadoro a year ago and absolutely love it. There’s something magical about having both sides of that engaged. They just seem to work so well together. :-)
@@jazzguitarwithandy I don’t have a pedalboard at the mo but I do have the Flint, the El Pescadoro and the Ditto. Intrigued by the Golden Era. All these pedals are fantastic at the subtler end of what they do. Not to say the extremes aren’t great, but I’m with you on the level of effect applied to the base tone. Less is more. :-) Out of interest, what gauge strings are you running (and roughly where are your volume / tone controls set on the 335? I’m guessing the volume is backed off a little - sounds really nice and open)
Thanks to this great intro to many effects for playing Jazz! I love the way you play too. I'm looking to get a few more essential pedals to use along with the RC-5 looper, and this is one of the few videos that really helps me envision the sound I'd like to get.
Great to see a jazz player demonstrating some pedals. I’ve been trying to get my hands on that tefi for a while, indeed hard to come by. Those nocturne pedals seem really nice as well…but a bit expensive to order from outside the US I’m afraid. I currently use a strymon deco and a vs audio blackbird deluxe, nice as well. Been using a line 6 HX effects for tuner/looper/reverb/delay/freeze/EQ pedal in one, not enough money to buy en all separately 😀. Love Ribot and Waits. Thanks for sharing and take care!
Thanks for the comment. I've heard great things about the deco. Those Golden Eras are very hard to get hold of. I think they might have stopped making them due to a parts issue.
Very nice sounds... and playing. I love the subtle lo-fi. I've always wished somebody would come out with a selection like this in a multi-effects pedal with programmability. All the emphasis seems to be on massive distortion, whereas a great selection of clean and edge of breakup tones with effects like these would be terrific. Cheers!
That El Pescadoro is great, never heard of it. Love the Ribot stylings on this too, he really is one of the most amazing guitarists who basically tells a story on every song. Two pedals I have which give something special are the Hors d'œuvre by Fairfield Circuitry, which is a feedback looper with a mixer and a polarity switcher, allowing the pedal board create submixes. And the Strymon Deco, which emulates the old Sun Studio sound very well
@@jazzguitarwithandy no problem, it's a great idea for a video. Pedals are seldom covered in a jazz context. Another one I use all the time if youre interested is called the Brute eq. It's made by a Danish guy I got talking to on a jazz forum. He has no website, he just makes you one if you ask and you PayPal him. It's a recreation of the preamp on an old Jim Hall style Polytone. It's a last pedal before the amp kind of thing
haha, if you asked me to build a vintage/retro/jazz board I would have named most of these! I'm still getting acquainted with my Golden Era, love e the Flint, curious of the Pescadero after owing a Mystery Brain -301, Freeze/Ditto are necessary components of any creativity-first inspired board. Only thing I would mention is the Audio Kitchen The Small Trees tube buffer/boost/line driver for bringing the absolute best out of your instrument. I play mostly ambient now so my board has turned into a spaceship console! Great video and have been really enjoying finding your channel. the intersection of Jazz and effects pedal is the intersection I'm hunting for!
Thanks for this - my amp has no ob-board FX, so I have a Strymon Flint for reverb and tremolo plus a Nocturne 'Junior Barnyard', which is the 'right-hand side' of your Pescadoro for that 'octal valve' vibe.
Nice sand educational for me. I have not any peddles and one acoustic amp and just got a 335 H7 type .. so need to get a good sound without buying a Hendrickson 6-10 etc.
Hey Andy, There's a song that you're playing when demonstrating the El Pescadoro, Golden Era and Flint pedal sounds that's very old-school atmospheric. Please tell me what that is! It's inspired me but I may never track it down on my own. I'm going to go through all your videos because I've taken up guitar again after not playing for years. I love jazz (Kenny Burrell and Grant Green are my favorite guitarists), western swing (Junior Barnard), Brazilian music and have just gotten into some gypsy jazz. Thanks so much!
Cool board. I love the pescadoro too. The preamp is a color I often choose to leave on all the time. And the reverb is unique. I’d love to check out a golden era sometime. The trem on that Flint sounds great.
I’m pretty new to pedals (mostly playing clean out of the amp so far), but this was quite inspiring. What do you think of using compression? Isn’t that something that’s being used in Jazz guitar a lot, too? Also, I loved the playing. Can’t wait to hear more of that. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the comment. I personally don’t like using a compressor for jazz. I don’t feel in full control of my guitar when I use one. I did used to like using one for harp harmonics though. For me I like the dynamics to mainly be from my right hand. The boost pedal is very helpful in a live situations.
You have good volume control so maybe not a compressor, but there so many compressors out there, so maybe the just right compressor? what ever that may be.
Hi Andi …. I think you missing volume pedal . Thnk you for beautiful playing , those 4 notes chords on first thin str are great , i wish to put on my practicing list . I was invited to play a jazz gig obviously i would not play long lines but mostly harmonies of a popular tones and im gona use my multi effect ZOOM GT 9.2 tt….build some patches ….
Excellent. We have similar taste in sounds and pedals. No delay? Ever use you bridge pickup. I use Boss GE7 and Klon Klone as boosts. Does the polytune do different hertz settings. Ie A432. Ta
I don't really have much cause for delay, I used to have a carbon copy, but just never used it. I rarely use the bridge pickup. I've heard that the polytune 3 does do 432, but you'd need to double check.
Andy, what are those clips to hold the power supply to the pedal board? Trying to find something like that. Great video, I’d love to see a performance with the Golden Era!
what do you think of using the nocturn brain el pescadoro with a AER compact 60/4 to get that charlie christian feel? I'm trying to avoid buying another amp and taking up more space
I'd imagine it would be ok. I've used it with a deluxe, Princeton and quilter. I have to say, I prefer it with tube amps, but it still sounds great with the Quilter. Those AERs are great little amps. I regret selling mine! I'd message Tavo (the Nocturne Brain guy), I'm sure he advise you, he's super helpful.
Where can you purchase a Golden area pedal? I can’t find a single place to purchase a new one. Website just tells you about it, but not a option to buy. HELP!
The best place for information is their Instragram page. I hate to say it, but I think I read the other day that they've stopped making it due to some parts being difficult to get hold of.
I think you know the answer to that question Clive 🤣 For me it really depends on what music I’m playing. If I’m just playing swing I don’t really use any effects, maybe just the preamp. What effects are on the board I use pretty sparingly. The most used pedal is the tuner 😂
