@D Sim cards are sold in many places including supermarkets, Walmart, and the phone companies' stores. You just need to activate the sim with the desired plan.
I typically don't care for videos longer than 10 minutes but watching your videos i find myself thoroughly enjoying them and even wanting more !!! You are a treasure trove of information !!! I'd like to see you review the Nighthawk M1
Thanks Jesse James. I have heard great things about the Nighthawk. I love the display but it is the lack of standard antenna ports (and the fact that I have purchased several other modems) that is keeping me from it. Perhaps I going to do it anyway because I am getting lots of interest in creating failover systems. Thanks for watching. I am learning a lot from all of you and try not to worry about the clock while being respectful of time... It is better just to talk like you are talking with a friend (who is in a little bit of a hurry).
i have no idea why i saw a link and went with sim 7 but i might sell it if i can find a cheaper router that can do the same for less. since i got the wrong one anyways, the yeacomm seems to be aweesome if it does unlimited data and verizon and visible.
On mofi go to advanced band lock and select 3-4 fastest bands, set band lock to auto. Let carrier Aggregation do its thing, takes a while to sink, but uses 2 bands at once. Much faster speeds.
I need to replace a Sprint Base Station (CDMA) and the P21 is pretty much the only option with the landline option. Data is a welcome extra for my use, but having a backup with Comcast fails is useful.
This video could help me a lot I really wish it would have been out there to help me when I needed the most but I'm just glad I'm able to figure stuff out for myself but this video is still good to help others and I'm glad it's out there but I do need advice about other things about my 4G LTE device I'm trying to figure all that out myself too so good luck to everyone who had to figure it out on their own into the people who made these videos to help out the ones that are new that needed to this is a good video thank you
@@PeterC408 thanks for the additional input, I've always believed the price of better quality normally out values the extra effort required by saving a buck on a lesser product....people like you are not only helpful and instructive with product evaluations but save the public time and money in investments that better meet their specific needs.
Nice video. Useful info. I would like to point out that the antenna you mention requires attachment to a metal ground plane ( minimum 8” diameter) in order to work properly. Plus it provides no additional gain - it’s really just an extension antenna to allow you to avoid mounting your router outside.
Except - thanks to CA - no repeater is worth a @#*$#!@*$*@# unless it supports MANY of the bands, due to CA. I've tried 2 of them, one on band 2 and 5, another on the awesome 10 Mbps bands 17 and 21, called "AWS" and that's 3G tech, not worth a @#$@#$#@ on LTE, that's why they're on sale for $99 or less. I returned them as "defective" or "doesn't work". Guess what? Thanks to the federal CPA (consumer protection agency) you have 30 days to return almost anything "defective." The ones that work and support all bands (cell phone "boosters") cost about $500.....YAGI antennas are a much better deal.....
Hi Peter. Have you heard of or used any Microtik products? They seem to have a good range of LTE routers and antenna. No sure if they are widely available in the U.S. but look like they could be a cost effective solution. Great video as always.
Hey Peter, am new to your channel. Am close to hitting the road full time in an RV and am wondering what device you’d recommend for the nomadic lifestyle? All bands, reception capability for remote locations? Any suggestions for boosting signal while remote? Usage would be internet streaming Netflix and such, on line banking, social media, email and surfing the net. Thanks again!
Merry Christmas Peter, Is this the same "radio" you presented? Yeacomm 4G LTE CPE Router with Sim Card Slot, 4G Wi-Fi Hotspot Router with 2 RJ11 and 4 RJ45 Ports, Unlocked 3G 4G Wireless Router for Home/Office, Support AT&T and T-Mobile Voice Calling. the difference is the Volte support. Are these two the same? Please let me know. Thank you and blessings to you and your family.
Yes, that Yeacomm P21 is the same. Keep in mind... while this radio is very cost effective, it does not cover all channels that tmobile uses. I would not suggest it for travellers or folks that do not know the bands they are trying to receive. Go to this Site www.cellmapper.net/ and type in "Tmobile USA" (or other).... Zooom into you neighborhood and look for the closest tower. Make note of the location (direction and distance) and the BAND!!! If it is covered by this radio, then it is a good bet. Try it right away and return it if you are not happy.
lol the car stereo's. Best router comparison video. I love my mofi. And yes the advanced and basic settings appear to be mislabeled. Can I add a router to the network(mofi) with rj11 phone jack's on to make phone calls ? Can the yeacomm p21 do texting ? I really would love to eliminate my cell phone and us the router('s) as a phone replacement. Plus if I wanted to leave it at home all I have to do is swop sim to a phone :)
Yes, I am using a hotspot to bring the internet into my home and share it around my whole house... and it is all over 4GLTE. It works well but could be costly if you are a heavy user of the internet. Imagine if you paid a single price for water every month; if you use it for drinking and bathing, you're paying too much. Some people might be running a mining rig in their backyard and they would find this expensive. If you're just getting email, surfing the web and watching TV, you're paying too much.
@@PeterC408 thank you, but maybe I'm just new at this, or I don't understand the terminology. I have tmobile, unlimited cell data and only 20gb of hotspot. If I use this router with my tmobile sim, will it burn through my 20gb of hotspot, or will it use my unlimited cell data to share a connection with my other devices? Thanks again.
@@CSTGaming Have you figure this out yet? I am curious about this myself. I believe this depends on whether the IMEI of the router shows that it is a phone or a hotspot.
Peter, would I need to buy and extra sim card or is that an added fee to your mobile plan or do I take out of my sim card from my phone, please let me know
Hey peter excellent video ive been considering the kuwfi as my choice...im a over the road trucker who also streams regularly each day as well and currently use a regular att hotspot by netgear but they signal well varies time to time do think the kuwfi would be a more stable option or should i get one with the bandlock thx for your time ...subbed btw
Great question... I really do like the band locking feature now that I look into it more. The MOFI does seem to be a really good idea. I love the Proxima antenna I have and think it would be great for a rig, its magnetic amzn.to/30MBZm9
I'm considering getting kuwfi or nighthawk m1 on AT&t..... I'm an over the road driver that games on downtime..... Which device would you recommend me getting for the best speeds for AT&t. I'm leaning towards Kuwfi.... But open for suggestions.
Peter, I got a question for you... I purchased the KuWFi router. Working fine, activated a new sim card with Verizon. But just receive a message saying I've used 80% of my mobile hotspot... How can I get it to show it's phone data, not a hotspot?
Hi Peter I purchased the KuWFi 300Mbps 3G 4G LTE Car WiFi Wireless Router Cat6 from Amazon. I am trying to find where I can get the updated firmware for this device. Do you know where I can find the file? Thank you for all the great content you create.
Thanks for your videos. Really informative. But the KuWfi WE826-T2 supports golden orb firmware or rooter firmware that supports TTL, I'm not sure bout band locking but it might also have that.
Did you activate the SIM card in a mobile phone first? Or did you activate in one of these 4G LTE modem/router? I ask because I know that at least in Australia the mobile providers don't want you to use these voice SIM only card in anything other than a mobile phone. Just wonder if they pick this up during SIM card activation and maybe grabs the IMEI number and and recognises that it's not a mobile phone and maybe cancel the SIM on you?
It all started when I went to a beach house and need to work from the beach. I bought a T-Mobile Hotspot and it worked (in one corner of the house). I actually had to tape it to the window. It ran on battery and kept turning off (power save). That is when my quest for a better radio with external antennas; it opened up a whole new world. When that month was over, I took my solution back home 40 miles away and it no longer worked. It was then that I discovered BANDS and radio reception. As far as IMEI tracking, some carriers do that, but most of them don't; I have had T-Mobile for 14 years and put my card in everything!! I pay the bills. There is no need to apologize for anything. Here is a Brazilian Radio that you might be interested in, great reception but not a Access Point. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HFh-xFx3wRc.html
Thanks again for these reviews. Question..You mentioned Sim 4 and Sim 7. I see alot of used and NOS Sim 4's on sale. WHat again are the main differences, are the Sim 4's carrier locked vs unlocked on the Sim 7's, and does Mofi still provide firmware updates for the Sim 4 version?
I had an amazing experience with the SIM4. The SIM7 seems a bit challenged with the current firmware. It seems that the main Radio Card (internal PCIe) is a cost reduction and perhaps not as good. I am not sure if it was carrier aggregating or not but I have seen someone hypothesize such.
Are these modems good for van life? I work remotely and need to use a ethernet cable in order to work if I don't have the ethernet cable I can't do my job please respond
Hi Peter. Love, love, love your episodes! Question, is there any router out there that can use T-mobile AND Verizon sim cards? Looking for dual sim router that can use both.
Great question! Yes. Here is one that just was re-released with a North American Radio and it appears to cover both! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--pdscPhxsG0.html
@@PeterC408 Verizon says it is not compatible, and it doesn't have dual sim cards. (I've ordered two of them.) Any other ideas? The reason I need Verizon is because they have a specific, dedicated failover system. It allows me to pay$5.00 per month and only pay in case of a cable outage. This way I can keep working until cable is restored. Usage is $15 per gig. Sweet. But what modem to buy . . . . . . . . Thanks again!
Hey man this is a great video but idk if your aware but the KuWFi router has a custom firmware that you can install that will let you do the custom TTL
Great Video, Thanks!. I live in Colombia, South America, could you tell me, specifically, what are the critical characteristics from my carrier that I have to take care of, in order to see if some of those routers work for me? I need them to hack the limited use of tethering, from my provider there's an unlimited plan for my cellphone, but for tethering, they allow only 45GB/month, I need it for streaming for all my family, so it isn't enough. Thanks in advance for your help.
Colombia has several carriers: Claro, MovieStar, DirectV,, Avantel, WOM, and Tigo. Yes but sir what is your location? My wife and I are looking to go full time RV. She needs zoom throughout the workday. Would parks and more rural areas work for zoom or FaceTime purposes
Thanks for this video. I have decided to go with the Yeacomm router, but have a stupid question. In order to use the 2 RJ11 ports with two different phone numbers, do I need 2 SIM cards or does that get configured in the router?
I visit my wife’s family in Vermont, and the AirB&Bs rarely have TVs let a lone internet. I have purchased a device called an Extender from Verizon. It works like these devices except no SIM card required. My wife and I have Verizon phones, but my son has AT&T and one of my daughters has T-Mobile. My phone connects to the Extender perfectly, but the kids that don’t have Verizon have to use Facebook to make phone calls and they have to go to Air Plane mode to save their batteries. I was wondering if you knew if other phones with other carriers will connect through 4G LTE signal even though your T-Mobile SIM card installed?
A great use case... If I understand this correctly, this would work to give you internet and TV while visiting. The kids would be able to use all their devices over WiFi.... tablets phones, facebook, etc. They could do calls if they put their phones in WiFi mode, but it would not replicate another service. WiFi is general and not carrier specific so it would work to give you Internet. Hope that helps.
@@PeterC408 The Verizon Extender gives anyone cell service within a 200 ft circle about the Extender. The Extender requires about 4GB per second internet and requires about three visible satellites
My question was about the MoFi, because of the frequencies for all three carriers (Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile) I was wondering if it mattered who's SIM card was in the MoFi.
SIM4 has carrier aggregation .... do you think verizon or visible can see if you are using this tipping them off to the fact you have your sims card in a router and not a phone ??
After looking at the price increase for my cable internet, I'm ready to try this. My carrier is Mint Mobile. They were completely unfamiliar with this type of 4G LTE modem. He kept asking for the IMEI of the device (which I have not yet purchased). Is such a number available for this type of modem? The one helpful suggestion was to buy the device, take the SIM out of my phone, plug it into the modem and see what happens. Suggestions?
Mint used to CAP at 25 GB, now I think at 35 GB. Check it. I'm with ATT -- no caps, but "you can be slowed after 22 GB" and where I'm at, I get 25 Mbps 1 am - 7 am, and 8 during the day. Plus I'm way out 7 miles from downtown. I did 350 GB down last month.
I am a licensed radio operator. I like your explanation of how the the different frequencies propagate. But, the biggest thing you missed actually has nothing to do with the center frequency of any carrier, its the 'bandwidth' (see 16:34). To explain this, I pose a hypothetical question that anyone can duplicate at home with any home router/access point: Question: Recall that any transmitter transmits with a finite amount of energy. If this energy must be spread out evenly across a carrier's bandwidth, which carrier will be more powerful (travel further)? a.) A 100mW 2412Mhz WiFi signal utilizing 20Mhz bandwidth on an omni directional antenna with 0dBi gain. b.) A 100mW 2412Mhz WiFi signal utilizing 40Mhz bandwidth on an omni directional antenna with 0dBi gain. Answer: (a) will be more powerful since it's the same power, same center, same antenna, but the energy emitted is spread out over a smaller 'chunk' of spectrum (20Mhz vs 40Mhz). RF engineers I know use the 'butter and bread' analogy. The 20Mhz carrier has the same amount of butter as the 40Mhz carrier (100mW) but less bread to spread that butter onto (20Mhz vs 40Mhz). This plays a MUCH bigger role than frequency selection if the frequencies considered are somewhat close to one another, i.e. 2412Mhz vs 2462Mhz, for example. Now, if deciding between 2412Mhz or 5.8Ghz, then frequency selection matters a LOT, and your general idea of lower frequencies traveling further is true and a good rule of thumb.
It is cheaper than regular phone service I know that for sure I've just been having trouble getting a signal hoping my new antennas fix that I like to talk right now hope nobody minds this is interesting video and I'm talking right through it
Hey, I got the yacomm router, I got a visible plan with it but it seems to be capped at 5mbps, I tried messing with the ttl but nothing has changed, any ideas as to why its still capped? I'm not sure where to go from here.
I have an old school granfathered unlimited plan from Verizon ive been using in a mifi home router. At the end of the month Verizon is killing any 3g and non 4g volte devices. Where i live there is no other option for internet except Hughs net and thats just a no no. What device would you suggest?

If you have Tmobile and your plan is eligible for Binge-on, Dial #266# to enable Binge-on. Dial #263# to turn it off and #264# to check status. If it is still using your data, give them a call and check what it going on.
Yes, the feature you are looking for is 4GLTE failover. I have set this up at a 35 persons business and it comes in very handy when Comcast drops out. It is a warehouse application that works at night, when Comcast does their maintenance. It works great but it sounds like you want automatic failover with priority to switch back. Here is the item that I would be looking at amzn.to/3ezKesy I have yet to try it but it looks very good. Now the 4G is supplied by a USB stick. This seems odd but once you realize that all telcos: Tmobile, Verizon and AT&T all use different frequencies, you start to appreciate what a good idea to separate them is. This one will automatically failover and switch back. Super nice and a great price point.
I have a question, I live in medium size city. I watch netflix and philo and I have At&t wireless. What is a good suggestion out of the ones you have tested here?
The Mofi4500 is nothing more than a ZBT WE826-T2 router with a Sierra Wireless MC7455 CAT6 or Quectel CAT4 EC25-AF modem-at a premium price. You would come out way better building your own using the tutorial on LTE Fix. Slip in modem and connect 2 cables and you’re up and running for a fraction of the cost. This is also an ongoing discussion on the lte.hacks facebook group.
hey, i bought throw your link, from amazon, i waited almost 1 month and in the end they sent me a white pouble envelop for a birthday card, is that a scam or , this is just a fake link to buy kuwfi, device, !! any ideas??

Why didn't you show how the band locking works on the yeacomm? A lot of people don't know how to bring the screen up to lock bands on it.. wish you would have spent the the same amount of time on the yeacomm as you did the others..
It is very straight forward, other than the name Frequency. You simply check off the BANDs that you don't want and.... if you leave only one - that's a lock.
@@PeterC408 I bought this router and it doesn't show band locking unless you know how to bring up the screen. Most people don't know how to bring up the screen to lock the band or bands they want to use. Just wish more RU-vidrs that review this router would show how to bring up the screen to lock bands. The only ones that do show it is in Spanish and can't understand them.
Great Video. Since you have the mofi 4500 and another hotspot: I would like to see you connect 2 together. You mentioned the mofi with load balancing. I was planning on getting a second mofi to use for load balancing. I wanted to see how this would impact speeds and how 2 would handle higher network loads.
Do you mean putting a SIM card in both of them and getting them to try and get double speed? An interesting thought but I think we are focused on getting 40+Mbps reliably and for a good price. Otherwise it turns into a science project that costs a ton of cash and doesn't solve a common problem.
What's your thoughts on Space X satellite internet? so if you have an unlimited tmobile plan on your phone can u just pop out the sim card and stick it in the router and use the phone with wifi and a smart tv, how does the wired ethernet work
It's called StarLink.... And I CAN'T WAIT!!! Literally, I can't wait. :) Just like StarLink 2.0, Starlink 1.0 is not here yet. My biggest question about this is although most people need download speed, we still need to upload what we are looking for... Which page? What video? How does it know what to show? What is the upstream connection on StarLink. For now, 4GLTE is much better and there is no contract! Jump in the water is fine.
Yes. It will work inside a window. Think of these waves as sound that you can not hear. A window will attenuate sound much better than a wall, so put it in the window. Opening the window on a nice day, might give you a little boost.
Hi! I have the yeacomm, I put a straight talk unlimited card in the sim slot, it worked fine and then cut out. Idk if maybe I should get a plan directly from T-Mobile? I’m confused why it worked perfectly fine and then stopped. I’m not tech savvy at all obviously so I’m not sure if maybe it just hit a cap and slowed down??
My guess is that it used up all of the HotSpot data it had allocated and now it is "throttled" to a very slow speed.... too slow to stream music but perhaps load a page verrrrrrry slowly. Yes, Tmobile has amazing plans for Hotspots -100GB/mo for $50 is what I have. Great.
Can I run this unit side by side with my cox cable to see if it works for me - if I can get it to work?? And so with COX we have Tv, Internet, and Phone (for $200 a month) we want to get rid of those people. Which Modem/device should I get?

Thanks, but too bad you didn't go into the Yeacomm firmware like you did the others and didn't try different bands with it. Let's see. The Mofi is both a Gateway (modem between 4G cellular and ethernet) and a Wireless Accespoint (WiFi). You should not need anything from the old cable install. Do you have a SIM card from a cellular provider plugged in?
I'm in a rural area and i can't get cable but i have great cell signal... i can't hotspot with my phone and i don't understand how you take a prepaid phone sim chip and just plug it in to the router and get hotspot without being throttled or capped or caught as far as that goes. Does this not violate terms of service?
This should work great for you!!! Just call your wireless company and ask them for a 2nd Line SIM. Most vendors offer dedicated HotSpots for sale, this is just one that you plug in and is up 24/7 and offers NAT and Ethernet. I don't see why it would violate terms of service, but I am not a lawyer and would read them if you are concerned.
@@PeterC408 The way any of the carriers act over data is just ridiculous. They only care on the Greedy side of things... like they don't want us using a single byte of data we don't pay thru the nose for and since they could totally just monitor, throttle, cap off and cut us off when we buy their plans they don't want any work around options to be available. They took my hotspot capabilities because At&t was upset that certain unlocked galaxy phones (S8 and later) were able to use our data on hotspot nearly undetected so they had straight talk send something to our phones that disabled the hotspot internet use, it just comnects and says "No Internet Connection" when on the hotspot now. BUT They are Absolutely fine with the fact that they offer a 65$ plan with 30 gig of hotspot that I could buy 100 times and never use the first gig of because the fact i have a BYOP straight talk sim for unlocked "At&t" phones, I'm on at&t towers and they refuse to allow Any hotspot usage so if i bought that I'd be just out of luck since they don't Actually care about people that pay them

on the mofi 4500 since it has its own imei number can i just take a activated phone sim and use in the device or is there a better device that you would recommend
A cat an mouse game that is almost as old as the internet, is people trying to get more than they are paying for. It still goes on today but it just gets more complicated. Sure, if you had the ability so spoof an IMEI, match the ASN and set TTL you could potentially fool some networks into thinking you are a phone. You might get it to work for a while but these service providers an not dumb, they will figure it out and soon will correct it.
I just received the Yeacomm P21 today I put my Cellphone SIM card in, pluged into the wall and worked One things, the device of the GSM provider will limit RU-vid Video to DVD quality 480P and most provider if not all would slow the speed after a cutoff data limit. Mine is 35GB P/Month All and all, I'm happy I made the decision to switch from Cable to 4Gcpe I will be saving around $600 a year, and won't lose a lot in terms of speed because I can live on 35GB of Data a month. Most my multimedia is on a NAS streamed via network or wifi My monthly bill will be around $30 P/Month + Tax instead of $79.99 So, the main loss is Video Quality from 1080P to 480P, but my online Media display is small and my 1080P Media is from a local Server, so I'm making a permanent switch for now
I am surprised by the auto throttling, there must be a way around that... on the other hand, it is saving your bandwidth!! I purposefully turned down my video quality (to P720) to save bandwidth. I also did it for Zoom shown in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-37tRiewW1gg.html Tmobile has a new Hotspot Plan that offers 100GB/mo at $50 (when autopay). I am liking that a lot. I do not get throttled down in video quality, thus the need to throttle myself. Instead of making the different logins based on family members, I made them based on video quality. Check out that video. Having it NOT autoplay saves me alot when I cat nap. :)
Time To Live is a command in windows. Do you use this code to trick your mobile carrier? I understand it as a workaround to hotspot usage and tethering. Haven't used it yet though, still working on my sytem build. The system should be completely installed soon. I searched your channel but didn't see anything specific to TTL. Can you elaborate on TTL and it's relationship with hotspot usage? My scenario: I built a mini-ITX PC for my car. I will run the KuWFi. I will CAT5 from KuWFi to the PC, but also want it to broadcast as a hotspot. Is TTL the solution to trick the mobile provider? Any suggestions on good data plans for a mobile system like mine? I'd like something affordable so I can keep the car online year-round, and 60GB of data to start would probably suffice. Will be doing lots of music and media streaming. It's tying into/controlling a big, complex stereo system. Project car :)
Which phone plan has the maximum gigs/ month you can download. For instance t-mobile only has a 40 gigs / month limit and then they start charging you extra for ever ry 10 gigs.
If you think about Tmobile with their "Netflix on Us" program... its almost unlimited. I am hoping Google will get their service with RU-vid and RU-vidTV... then that will be Amazing!
The KuWFi radio I have supports bands that align nicely with bands used by Tmobile. Take a look at this video. I think it will help you ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-izx0hhDMJlA.html
This one is definitely worth a look ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HFh-xFx3wRc.html It is a modem and an antenna, so you need to use your own WiFi router but this radio/antenna combo is worth a look.
I have heard that they are reevaluating their iPad program because of all the fake IMEI generators out there, but I don't think it has anything to do with MOFI in particular.
So if you live way out in the country the SIMS 4 model is better for carrier aggregation and I cant believe they came out with a new model SIMS7 and it doesn't do carrier aggregation ??
