Great lesson again many thanks Andy, helping me greatly . Quick question about the Bbdim7 you use in bar 6 (like bar 2). Real book has it down as Em7. With the melody over this chord containing a B natural does it sound okay to use Bb chord over it? Is this a swing style technique?
Good question David. It’s definitely more of a swing era/gypsy jazz way of playing it. In bar 2 it’s against an E and G, 2 notes in Bb dim. In bar 6 it does create a b9 interval. It’s tense for 1 beat, but quickly resolves. I personally find the real book chords a bit off for some of the early swing songs.
