Video Conversion program that I have used for years gets a major upgrade with AI. Now it can not only rip in your DVDs but upscale them too. It looks neat, but I use Ubuntu Linux. I have no idea how the Windows version would run through WINE. WINE is a bit hit or miss. I've never tried it for commercial software, either.

I'm looking for a way to make my old wrestling DVDs look better I watch them currently watching on my 4K Sony player but I'm looking into a dvd upscaling player but idk if it's any difference then watching on my 4K player? I don't wanna waste money if the 4K will play them same or better the. A DVD player with upscaling.

It is a good question but here is my take on it. Your DVD player has to try and upscale "on the fly" (in real time). This is not going to be as good but upscaling them using an i7 processor and GPU video card over several hours. I think you have a good chance of being able to do better. At the end of the day, it is about the original file type and the algorithm to upscale. This one made a visible difference in the DVDs that I tried. I think it is definitely worth a try. One of the best real-time upscalers I have seen is from the NVidia Shield media player. It has an NVidia GPU inside, nothing from Sony stands a chance against that. The only way to get them on the Shield is to rip them to digital, so this program could help you there too.

How does the upscale quality compare to Gigapixel AI? I believe it is widely regarded as the best

Where to start. Gigapixel AI only does photos and is $99. Back to my analogy of a Swiss Army Knife, this program does many things including File Type Conversion (for which it was named and you would need anyway). My title is about upscaling a DVD and GigaPixel AI does appear to do that. Now when it comes to photos, it is neat to know that there are other solutions and if but I bet that our government that is even better.

Nice review video. I actually stumbled upon this software and downloaded the trial program prior finding your video. I uploaded an old image of 2 of my boys about 20 years ago and to the left it showed a 2K version of it and to the right a clearer 4K version of the picture in about a second. Was very impressed so I hit the "Run" button. Even though I have a newer Intel i7 Dell with a discrete 4GB AMD GPU and 64GB memory it took about 3 minutes to process the new image. So was a little disappointed on how slow the processing took. Was still impressed so was started filling the form to order the software when I wanted to test out how long it would take to process a 2 minute test video since the trial version allow you to process 5 images or the first 5 minutes of a video. It took about an hour just to process the 2 min video. Curious on how long it took to process your video? This would help me to know if I should try on a newer computer or bring up an Amazon AWS server with multi GPU in order to upscale the older family videos we have. Thanks.

I was also surprised at the time that it took. I was very careful not to oversell it and I mentioned that in the video, it took me overnight to complete that video upscale. Less than 15 minutes to rip it in and probably close to 10hours to upscale it, but it is not marginally better but much better.

Sorry for the lack of know how, maybe the answer is of course, but here goes. Can I rip my old dvds to my digital library, then upscale w/ the same program?

Yes, the program does both things but they are different functions, so run one then the other.

@@PeterC408 thanks, I'm gonna give it a fair shake, but the 1st dvd I tried to convert, only converted 2of the 5 files on the dvd. To be fair, I was watching Bills vs Chiefs @ same time, don't chew gum n walk real well. Gonna try ,try try again. If no bueno ,Hope the 30 day $ back guarantee is legit.

@pedrorosado9534 it's legit but usually, you only want to record one chapter. Is it a TV series? Normally, it will identify the best option to record. Rest are usually filler.

@@PeterC408 No, it's a home video from a sony handycam. , want to digitize bout 75-100 home vid dvd's for my plex. Tried wondershare program bout few yrs ago ,succeeded w/ bout 10 or 15, but never finished the project, still have the lifetime wondershare, thought this 1 might be better. But can always go back to what worked. Whatra ya think ?

It does appear to have the ability to queue and then act upon several videos. Just to be perfectly clear, upscaling is a slow process and the movie I showed took overnight. Unless you can plan a coma, I don't see the need for a batch process but it does appear to have it. Maybe your PC is way faster than mine

Here, I looked it up... "There are two standard DVD resolutions provided on the market, 720 × 480 (NTSC, total 345,600 pixels) and 720 × 576 (PAL, total 414,720 pixels). Both DVD resolutions are available in 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios. We like to talk about 4K UHD, 1080p and 720p HD. OMG! I do remember that month. That is definitely one of those pieces of technology that defined a very narrow piece of time, like the CD-RW technology called Lightscribe that allowed you to burn label artwork on top of specialized CD-W discs. Remember that one? I was telling my son that there was a 2 year period before flash drives where we had to burn a CD to give someone a file. The first flash drive I had was only 28MB 😬 but man was that cool 😍

Resolution is measured by horizontal lines of resolution, so DVDs are 480p. Older DVDs may be 480i.

The demo does NOT use hardware acceleration, which is stupid. How am I supposed to test if it works with my hardware properly?

Well I'd start complaining to the RU-vidr. 😂 I have an i7 7700 and a 1050 TI I get about three frames per second which is slow but really works.

You have to watch on your PC. Nor as dramatic on a phone. Sometimes the software captures the moment and sometimes it doesn't.

Changing the format of products you own is not illegal. DVD players used to come on every computer, every laptop and even some TVs. Now finding one is becoming harder and harder. If everyone limited their copying behavior to DVDs in hand, there would be no problem.

Making a copy of DVDs is not an issue in the USA, but for some reason BluRay is not in the same arena. I wish that we could make legal copies of those as well.
