Spencer Doman, grandson of famous child development expert Glen Doman, well-known author of How to Teach Your Baby to Read and How to Teach Your Baby Math, will talk about why you should teach mathematics at an early age and provide tips on how to teach these math skills at home.
Spencer says that “before we teach our baby about how we write numbers or numerical symbols, what we should actually do with young children is teach the child quantities.
The use of Arabic numerals to represent different values is a characteristic unique to humans, not seen outside our species. But we aren't born with this skill. Infants don't have the words to count to 10.
According to research from the Duke Institute for Brain Sciences, babies who are good at telling the difference between large and small groups of items even before learning how to count are more likely to do better with numbers in the future. Those with stronger innate number sense performed better in test scores at three years of age and beyond.
As a parent, we want to strengthen our child’s ability to recognize quantity. Then, we can build on the child's mathematics success after that.
You are your children's first and best teacher.

This is so interesting. I have an IQ of the top 1% according to the Mensa test, but I have never been great with math, only slightly above average, even though I even took the advanced math classes in college. I just realized that I learned numbers more as a language than a representation of quantities.

You should look into vedic mathmatics. It uses quantities rather than there representations.

My kid counted to 100 when he was 1 year 7 months old. He can multiply but he is still struggling with 2 digit adding and subtracting now though, he is 3.8 years old (so he is not a genius or the next terrance tao or anything, but he enjoys numbers). I'm making a book with number blocks for him right now to teach him the 2 digit adding and subtracting (mental maths, the columns method is black magic).

And then he just used his fingers to count what it's multiplied by while singing the song. He memorized the square numbers and x10 though.

And there's the channel owie TV, which is crazy they made songs for counting by 67s now. He's not smart enough to memorize that much of course

I read in a study that mathematicians are measured to have brain activity in their fine motor skills area when they do math, unlike non mathematicians.
