The second one: to be able to regulate emotions when gifted can express itself with negative consequences in difficult circumstances. For instance, the point of needing less support from others and needing less adult supervision. If support is already lacking and supervision isn't there either, one can survive these tough situations. A disadvantage of this is not getting the care and support needed because it isn't visible that you need help. It's masked. Which unfortunately can lead to a lot of difficulties later in life. This then can again hide the fact that you're actually thinking (and coping) high above average possibly without realising it.

It's hard for me to identify with the list as an autistic gifted person. 1) We often have learning disabilities. Mine was speech. I lacked development compared to my peers. 2) I have emotional dysregulation.

You're only gifted as an adult if you can proved actual giftedness in what you have achieved or produced. With children its potential, with adults its actual achievement.

What about being more curious than most people about everything? Would that not be a sign of giftedness? And why did you not talk more about the fact that a gift is present in oneself to a certain level of intensity, like to be gifted is just to have one of the too many traits of what it is like to be human but significantly more developed. Nice talk once again. Thanks.

That's a nice way of thinking about it, I like that :) Yes, high levels of curiosity is correlated with intelligence!

I test as INTJ on almost all the tests, and HSP on that test as well, and I see a lot of the traits you mentioned in me. I particularly see the highly sensitive part, especially in regards to feeling upset at loud noises and not having my energy drained by it and by people as well and needing to take extra time away afterwards. Is this combination common? Is it mainly an INxx thing?

Just so you know, Myers Briggs test is extremely flawed and for the most part, useless. It is pseudoscience made by someone with no formal training in psychology at all and has been widely discredited by real psychologists. People who take it often get different results every time they take it. It's junk

omg legit same, the INXX is so real, it's often INTP/INTJ, although I have a highly developed external Feeling as well so some days I'm an INFJ i'd say

Great channel and great video, highly underrated, but I suppose it makes sense considering giftedness is rare, and the truly gifted aren't on youtube 😄😄

Daaamn, I really thought I had ADHD...but focus was not that bad overall. I was rank 1 world in a few games, RTS and Strategy overall. Really hate having to do stuff I don´t like. I excell at picking up just heard ideas and connecting them to my own knowledge. I also excell at discussions especially when about psychology, politics, morals or whatever really. I also have a high degree of sensitivity for spotting manipulative behavior. I feel like I´ve been stressed for most of my life. On the other hand being bored is barely tolerable for me. I was always quiet competitive, made a few mistakes, got injured a lot. Many basics or common knowledge slipped by me, which I later learned though "aha" or now it makes sense moments. I hated when things weren´t explained properly, or why I had to do something. I always wanted a reason when I couldn´t spot a why myself. I could never except just getting a formula, I´ve always wanted to know why it works and how and what the thought process behind it is. I was very bored in my first 4 years of school, couldn´t sit still at 6years old, but thats probably due to a spine condition. I just wish I had a Mentor or just someone who told me what people want from me exactly. I explained my thoughts lot and got bad grades because I just didn´t name the technical terms...such bs especially in psychology. I always had a strong sense for what´s right or wrong, got into a few fights because of it. Injustice is everywhere...

I see myself in all of these, the strongest in the third. However, I wonder where the line is between childhood conditioning and geneticly created/passed on mental capacity tendencies.

3:10 I agree with sign 3, but the wording "emphasize" here is not accurate, you could be gifted but low in agreeableness at the same time and here you don't necessarily emphasize, but at a certain age you start to "Act" like it, or at least "try to" emphasize more, some people don't even get there, take sociopaths for example. Since this video is targeting "Gifted" people, I'd assume that little details like this one matter.

Hmm highly disagree with the last point tho. From my experience and learning highly gifted individuals are often disorganised and very child-like. They often hate rules and invent their own rules instead. Also i think the third point can kind of contradict the second in that if you are highly sensitive (emotionally), you can often find yourself “overreacting” in anger or sadness over what others may call petty. But overall a nice video

Sorry but this is bollocks. You're not talking about gifted, you are talking about the stereotypical gifted son in law.

Well, I'm not gifted, I just got some issues like heightened sensitivity to stimuli. In other areas I am the exact opposite of the tendencies described, but this is an interesting topic for me in the sense that I am interested in what giftedness actually *is* and what it has to do with knowledge and with being correct. So in a sense, I have an epistemological interest in this subject. As a side note, it is very interesting to me that most of the traits mentioned here sort of run counter to cultural stereotypes about genius, which seems more in line with someone who is tortured in some way, questioning everything and everyone - not with someone well-organized, emotionally well-regulated and, to an extent, obedient. Is there any discussion you know of why these stereotypes exist given that they seem to miss the mark in so many ways?

Can you maybe make a video of autism and giftedness combination and adhd and giftedness combination? So not the difference but the combination :)

You are wrong about the emotional aspect of the gifted, a simple google will tell you this. Especially if the gifted person has complex trauma.
@in2deep41
@in2deep41 8 месяцев назад
Wrong is a strong word to use when discussing the spectrum of the human mind. He is not wrong in that gifted people typically have a better natural ability for self regulation and compartmentalization. This does not exclude common comorbidities such as adhd or complex trauma that can overpower this natural ability. It is not a cure, but a strength
@ForestForThought

So, with these four signs, they all represent four common traits of Gifted people. Doesn't mean all gifted people have all four traits. But strong emotional regulation and good strategies for discipline and grit and managing mood is one reason why gifted are described as "wise beyond their years" and "mature".

@@ForestForThought neurotic and naive are traits of the gifted… do your research! Lol
@minimushrooom
@minimushrooom 8 месяцев назад
@@silviemcewan5193 but both these things can be true. For example, a gifted person might be highly neurotic, yet still able to function to a high level because they can compartmentalize. They might have panic attacks yet no-one around them will know because they are able to control their external responses. They might have periods of high anxiety that overwhelm them, and periods where they are extremely capable so that these downtimes are almost irrelevant. With the right support and knowledge I think the trend also tends to be towards emotional stability as they age. Of course no human is the same, their experiences are not the same, their brains are not the same, but overall these patterns can be seen. But you highlight a key problem- this is poorly understood and under researched so many do not get the connection and support they need.
