great tips about prepping fresh ho fun if storing in fridge as deff they go rock hard in the packet - UK versions have microwave instructions but am always worried it would cook /heat them.
I really loves the way your dad talk in his cooking videos, he is very engaging and I have a feeling of affection (情切感) as if he's talking to me as a family member. I really enjoy watching your dad cook. He is my celebrity chef.
I love the way your dad teaches us his techniques. You can tell he REALLY loves teaching us. Very patient man. I will recommend for my friends to watch
This is the BEST channel for Cantonese Cuisine ! Not only does Daddy Lau cooks + teaches with a practical, easy approach, but I deeply appreciate that Randy gives a history of the dish + incorporates Chinese Characters on the side, to help us understand well, the subject matter. Daddy Lau did give many "pearls" about cooking Gnorn Chow Hor Fun; now I know why refrigerated Hor Fun is hard to cook.
I watched this last week and intended making it soon. Well, tonight I needed dinner inspiration so I used it as guidelines. I used rice stick noodles, chicken, carrots, onions & cabbage with gobs of ginger (Hub's request), garlic, gochujang to spice it up, soy sauce, chicken broth powder, sesame oil. What a hit! Watching several of your videos and Daddy Lau's technique has really help build my ability to make a great Asian meal happen at our house. Thank you.
I was so absorbed in your Dad's cooking that when he said, "Tell our family it's time to eat." I was half-expecting that I will also be invited. To my dismay, I was only watching a RU-vid video. How I wish I can taste your Dad's recipes.
Daddy Lau is a good teacher, and I can see his presentation technique almost as good as professional. Is this your dad’s first time on screen? He is a talented show host like those professional tv show hosts.
Mama Lau is a sweet traditional wife and mother - I like the fact that she has many good comments and tips to share too though, she will still play second fiddle to Daddy Lau and let him have his say whenever he wishes.....I love the effort she puts into speaking English for her daughter-in-law (+ viewers) to understand! She's a harmonizer and a modest honest lady!!
Hi Uncle Lau! Im Indonesian chinese living in a small town. Thank you for sharing your recipes and lots of tips. I really appreciate how flexible you are. And Randy, your videos are informative without being over burdening. Love how you put extra explanation about the history and the spelling for words. Keep up the good work!
Such a pleasure to hear your speak Cantonese n all his xtra comments n reaction while cooking. Being able to understand Canto, brings back memories. Thanks.
I made this last night. First time I got up the energy to make a fire in my old school asian wok burner out back. I finally achieved Wok Hei and the flavor was amazing! Making again tooday while my bean sprouts are still edible!! Thank you Lau! I sat and watched this video right before I fired up the wok!
That’s awesome! Sounds like an impressive unit you have to get that much heat haha. Thanks for trying and trying again! Glad to hear you enjoyed the flavors and video!
I grew up eating Chinese, Malay, Indian and other delicious foods in Singapore. This dish was always one of my favorites. And Daddy Lau's dishes remind me of my happy childhood. Now I know most of the Chinese dishes I love were Cantonese in origin. Love your videos and the explanation. Keep it up and all the best!
When I was in high school, our school was in the middle of chinatown in Houston, tons and tons of great Cantonese food! Gon chaau ngau hoh was one of my favorite dishes, so this video takes me right back. Great recipe and great job!
Oh yay! So grateful that you tried out our recipe and enjoyed it Dan! Say hello to the whole family for us and thank you so much for watching and supporting our channel!
Thanks.. amazing videos not just for Chinese recipes but also an insight into Chinese culture. I believe that this culture is the same the world over. Parents are happy to be with their children and grandchildren and that appetising food heals all agonies. Usually when a child is angry or frustrated, the best way to calm him/her down is to serve delicious food..and it applies to adults too. The way to the heart is through good food. Thanks once again!!
Thank you so much for sharing his talent with us! Have watched and cooked every recipe so far, all the way over here in Aus. The rainbow stir fry was a massive hit with my fiancé :D
Ahhhhh thank you so much for the love Taylor! We're so honored that you're watching and TRYING our recipes. That means a lot to us :) I will be sure to let my family know - they will be so happy to hear that!
Hi Randy ! I’m a new subbie. I hate cooking and is stuck with this daily task. I also have a son name Cameron. I’m so happy your Dad is guiding me in the kitchen. I made the eggplant dish the other day and my family loved it!!!
I’m going to slowly try out all your dad’s recipe. My late mum is Cantonese, from 广州顺德 originally but immigrated to Singapore since childhood and has settled down here. I love Cantonese food but unfortunately in Singapore, Cantonese is a small minority as compared to the 福建 & 潮州 ethnicity. Getting to eat awesome authentic Cantonese food in Singapore, one must know where to find them but over the years, many of the older generations have either retired or passed on. Most of the younger generations that follow have achieved sound education in life and preferred to be enrolled into the white collar industry. Authentic Cantonese cuisine is disappearing in Singapore. I’m so happy to have caught your dad’s youtube link by accident and I’ve been watching it very closely ever since. Kudos to you and your dad….👏👏👏👍👍👍
Your dad’s dishes are easy to do, but with the techniques it looks and tastes so good. I tried the egg soup today and with your dad’s technique, the egg flowers look so beautiful. The technique can also be applied to many other soups such as chicken/crab corn soup
I am a new subscriber and I am soooo thrilled I found your channel. It is so amazing that you are able to capture your Father doing what he loves. It must be so amazing that you can pass these recipes down to your children. Thank you for sharing these wonderful recipes with all of us!!! 😘😘😘
Oh my goodness...those tips Daddy Lau shares at the end when he is eating is like gold !! He is going to make me into THE Best home cook chef !!! I ain’t missing my dining in restaurant anymore .... I can cook like a master , thanks to Daddy Lau ! So THank you for making these vids!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 I love the family dinner talks ....and I love your mom doing her editorial too . Makes me miss my grandparents and parents , who have all passed. This was what my Popo did every Sunday, big family dinners with kids, parents . It brought back lots of memories. I have started my own traditions with my kids , since they left home 3 years ago.... every Saturday or Sunday is our family dinner. No excuse about attendance . With covid , they can’t be socializing with friends so covid made our gatherings 100% turn out . My next to do is to get my kids cooking like Daddy Lau. So that these dishes become their “ normal dinner dishes “ instead of depending on me to make it all the time. The history lessons you added is a really nice touch. The older I get the more curious I am about where does these beginning of cooking techniques , taste etc come from. My uncle is great chef but he lives too far from me, so I can’t learn from him. I only see him once a year when he visits for a week, and I don’t want him to be cooking on his vacation. Like your dad, he is the main or should I say only cook for his in-laws, and his children. He loves being in the kitchen cause he says he don’t know much about anything else 😁😁 . I can’t believe your dad is 75 plus...his energy level is superb ! I hope I have that kind of energy when I get there. Video editing is 👍👍👍 good job everyone !
Omg thank you so much Berniece for another super kind comment!! I know, I'm always amazed at how much energy my dad has too! So grateful that you are enjoying watching our videos. Love that they remind you of your big Sunday dinners with your family and that 3 years ago you started doing that with your children as well! What will be the first dish you hope your kinds learn? Thank you for your support again. Grateful to have you enjoying our recipes!
Now one of my favorites to watch. What a joyful family and great teacher. Reminds me alot of the cooks i used to work with at the Formosa Cafe in LA. Good to hear so much spoken Cantonese, especially about food. It's music to my ears! Good luck!
Thank you so much for the kind words and the love! We're so grateful that you're appreciating our content and the Cantonese heritage :) Any recipes you want to see next?
According to your mom's comments about your dad being retired for almost 10 years since he was 66, 67, that means he is in his mid 70s. And he can still move and cook so well and fast. I am so impressed! Wow! Daddy Lau is awesome!
Really love your channel. Your Dad's explanation is clear and concise. He's not only a great chef, but a great teacher as well. And also, what doting grandparents both your Dad and Mom are. Looking forward to more dishes by your Dad.
Thank you so much @jeffervescence 🙇🏻♂️🙇🏻♀️ We are so grateful that you are enjoying our family's videos and learning from dad! We can't wait to keep sharing more with you 🥰
Yes! I've been waiting for a new video! I can't wait to try this for the family! Would you guys have gu lou yok (sweet and sour pork) planned anytime soon? It's the one dish I've tried multiple recipes of but can never achieve that restaurant taste.
Thank you so much Avery! We're so honored to hear that you're looking forward to our videos :) Sweet and sour pork has been a popular request so we'll definitely be making it soon. Let us know if you have any other recipes in mind!
Maaaaan I love me some chow fun! I’m definitely going to give this recipe a go. I always get super hungry while watching all your videos. Keep em coming!
I was stationed in Hawaii in the early 80s. This was served in every local restaurant around Schofield Barracks. I was never able to find it in Tennessee. There are many noodle dishes available in local restaurants but none called “Chow Fun”. I am so anxious to try this recipe.
I am so glad that you make vlog of your father Chef Lau. Not only for us to learn his style of cooking but also for the next great great grand kids of chef Lau. I am sure they will watch him one day and say " That is my great grand father " An amazing teacher or " Hao Laoshi "
🥰 Thank you so much msmintygreen 🙇🏻♂️🙇🏻♀️ We are so grateful that you found our channel, and we can’t wait to continue sharing many more recipes with you! ❤️

Dang this brings back memories of Hong Kong, sitting around the dinner table, watching my dad cook chow fun on the outdoor stove on that hot ass fire. So fresh. So good. I know this video is older, but if you see this comment, THANK YOU and THANK YOU TO YOUR FAM for these videos.
Thank you @Tranism! So happy we could bring back those memories with our videos. We hope you are able to make and enjoy this dish at home to recreate those good times 🥰
Hello from Portugal😀 really great to watch Dad cooks👍 I can speak well cantonese and I do enjoy so much and learn a lot as well. GREAT COOK👍👍👍👍👍👍 Thanks🙏
You have an amazing father . God Bless your family for sharing his wealth of cooking knowledge . Your channel is the first ever that shares from a renowned traditional Chinese chef .
Beef Chow Fun is one of my dad's favorites. I'm definitely going to try this once I can source fresh chow fun. What type/brand of wok is Daddy Lau using in the video? Is it a cast iron wok? I have a glass top stove and have yet to find a flat bottom wok that works well for me.
Yay hope this turns out similar to how your dad likes it! This is the wok we are using for the videos: amzn.to/365xFRX It's actually not the wok my dad uses for everyday cooking because he normally cooks over a gas stove. For the videos we have a small electric burner so got this one and it's been working well for us! We hope to do a video on woks in the future though because I know my dad has a lot of thoughts on this subject.
You should have your dad try using an induction cooktop. The wok that he is now using won't work because it looks like it's nonferrous. He can go to a flat bottom iron wok. I think he will be impressed with how fast it will heat up and also it will get hotter than what he is using now. Love the videos.
I love everything Chinese. Your recipes are so easy to follow. I have all the ingredients at home! Thank you for this chow Fun recipe. Gif bless your family 🙏
