@@TheSewingChannel ok I understand. I'm so sorry for you, I totally understand how you feel. I live outside the US but whenever I visit, Joann Fabrics is at the top of my list. So sorry 😥
My neice started Cosplay when she was 14, so by 18 she decided to sew more than costumes. All we had by then was JAs. I kept telling her how wonderful Hancock's was, but she just couldn't grasp it. Five years later she graduates in Architecture, lands an awesome job in a large city and finds a great condo in a nice complex to rent downtown. First time she came came back to visit, she was so excited to see me. "Aunt T, guess what? I can walk out of my front door, walk about 50 feet to exit the complex, turn right, walk one block, make another right and guess what the second store is? Hancock's!!! OMG! Now I understand what a real fabric store is!!!" At least she got to experience it for a bit......
I work at a JoAnn’s store, we received word yesterday that MOST 😊stores will be staying open. They filed bankruptcy but the new owners want to keep them open. Here’s hoping!!!
The struggle is real! The one nearest me closed almost a year ago. I've learned to appreciate Hobby Lobby's fabri depth, but have to shop online a lot. It's better to see and touch fabric...our world has become so impersonal. Hugs
In my local Joann’s most all the employees are nice. They finally got a clue the quilting is big and they put together a whole section on quilting fabrics, and necessary tools. They have brought in layer cakes, charm packs and jelly rolls. Now if they could add Moda and other fabrics I like it would be so great but they at least are stepping up and noticing what would be an improvement! I hope they stay in business.
So sad to see this. In the late 1970s I used to work p/t at our local ClothWorld. I was a sewer before I started but learned so much more from the other employees as well as clients. As schools drop Home Ec no one will learn.
Yes, but mostly what Amazon has done. Will NEVER shop Amazon and no one should. More and more stores of all kinds to come. That was the government's plan.
They need to understand (I have to laugh at this...I don't think they want to understand) that we want to feel the texture and drape of fabric, and to see the color and scale of the prints, etc. I have so much on-line fabric that doesn't meet my needs! A lot of Joann's Keepsake calico is stiff reminding me of lightweight canvas.
@@jeanniebee8235and perhaps Keepsake Calico feeling like canvas is part of their problem? Who wants to buy 100% cotton for quilting of clothing that handles more like canvas? Quality is not always what is should be at Joann’s and sewists know this…great place for costume wear… I always have a problem with high everyday prices. Their sale prices are where they shoukd be priced all of the time… no gimmicks and coupons trying to catch clueless shoppers! And keep the store clean, please?
Mine was in a mall too! Just closed in January said the rent was going up too high. Maybe the stand alone stores will make it. I hate online shopping can't feel the fabric. How sad.
While it's quite sad to see stores closing down , especially with the emo music playing in the background, we gotta take a step back and see what's really going on here. Chances are, this closure didn't come out of the blue. It's likely been brewing for some time due to some serious mismanagement at the top levels of the company and I read that there’s been over priced products and rude staff. It's been pretty obvious for a while that things haven't been going so well. Instead of just getting all sad and mopey about it, let's use this as a chance to reflect and demand better from the company. They need to own up and make some changes to their business practices so we don't see more stores closing in the future! Imho 🤷♀️
So sorry your store is closing! I’m afraid of what stores in my area will be next! Not all of us quilters can afford getting fabric at the specialty quilt stores, which by the way are closing too! 😢😢😢
In my opinion, once the family sold the original Cleveland Fabric, the quality, inventory types, and customer service declined. Then it became a craft store. Some of the younger sewists will never know what once was a wonderful shopping experience. I am sad for the employees, but will not miss the current corporation.
I’m Canadian, and I only went there once. I had to pick up my jaw several times bc I’d see something I’ve only seen in RU-vid and stuff I can’t find around me. I always said I’d go there again. Hopefully this summer, I can go again.
I was in my local Joann's today and it's a newer store, opened about 5 years ago. Lots of empty spaces and several last chance areas. About half the fabric available was fleece. I am hoping they are just reorganizing to bring in all the new prints they have online. A store an hour away moved to a new building and I love it, so much room for fabric and the back 1/3 of the store is yarn. I have to drive to another state if I want a 'local' yarn shop😢 I really hope the company survives, not much left around us anymore!!
Our Joann Fabrics closed several years back in my area. We were all heart broken. Since then a local sewing shop opened up a quilting fabric store which is wonderful, but 5he fabric is 2-3 times more expensive. I know I sure miss our Joann’s fabric and the great sales they had. The closest one is to me is like 1 hour drive, which makes it hard I’m thankful we still have Hobby Lobby or I’d be hurting for fabric.
The Joann's closet to me was about 40 minutes away and it closed 😢. Now when I go to one it's 2 hrs away so if I need anything from there I stop by after a Doctor's appointment. It's so sad.
I noticed that this store is in a mall but so many others are more or less free-standing (as in a little strip with a few other stores! Wondering if the regular mall stores are the first to go? People don’t go to malls much if at all because of the problems!!!
Joann's was my sister and mine go to fabric store. Then, they started to compete with wally world and started to bring inferior fabric, 'junk', etc. They messed up by lowering the quality of the items.
: O ) My local JoAnn just built a brand new bigger and up-to-date store last year. Love it! It's been staying busy Ours moved out of the mall, maybe that helped. Norman, OK
First it was Hancock Fabrics that left, then our local quilt shops, Joann’s left with the last hurricane. Hobby Lobby is all that’s left with inferior fabrics. It’s a 45 minute drive to New Orleans. I sew for my sanity and your safety. The universe is conspiring against me. 😊
I have been thinking about Hancock Fabrics. They were awesome. Then they went out of business. That really ouched when it happened. Ben Franklin crafts is gone. My family went out of business about 15 years ago. The store had been open for 74 years when it closed. The town was shocked and hurt over it.
I stopped shopping there a few years ago after a return incident. Bought an item online and it wasn't going to work for what I needed it for. Took it to the nearest store over 80 miles away to return. Cost $50 and they wanted a $25 restocking fee!!!!!! I was floored. The ladies in line behind me were tripping because I was so angry and heard what was going on. I left and never went back.
We lost our AC Moore when I was jewelry making, then I turned back to sewing & went to Joanne yesterday & saw many sales but seemed prices higher. I.e. tea towels are $14.99 & even 70% off they're more than I would spend. Dollar Tree used to have a variety of fat quarters but they are now skimpy. We have Hobby Lobby in another county & I've been doing some macrame too so I look for those craft supplies too. I do shop online but you're not sure what you'll get. We do have one quilt shop not too far & I've bought remnant bags of fabric there. Walmart's Wrap & Zap is cheaper...it's used in trivets & bowl cozies. 😢
I have 3 JoAnn stores near me, all within 15 miles of my home. Two are older stores, and one is a huge new store that opened just last year. I'm wondering which one(s) may close. Was in the new store just last week and there were a lot of carts of unwrapped bolts of fabric, so I'm assuming they'll keep the newer store open and possibly close older stores. I knew it was a matter of time before JoAnn's filed for bankruptcy, but it's still a bit surprising. So sorry Tracy, that your store is closing. 😢
Yes, but the better stores are the older ones. The newer store is so mis-managed. The pattern drawers are never restocked. They just put out boxes of patterns and the customers have to hunt through them to try to find the pattern they are looking for. The store manager should be fired for how poorly the store is maintained. I usually go to one of the older JoAnn stores. Nicer employees and the pattern drawers are always stocked. @@TheSewingChannel
I’m so sorry your local store is closing too.,our local Joann’s closed a few months ago and I realized how Joann’s was my happy place, I could touch and feel the fabric and see the true colors of the fabrics before purchasing. Now, like someone else mentioned the next fabric store is about 25 min away. We are creatives, and we will work it out! Right! ❤
I read they filed chapter 11 yes top management was not good. And I was assistance manager in Moscow Idaho about 12 years ago and they didn't treat employees nice.
Sad, very sad. Hoping my local JoAnns stays open, if not the. Closest 1 would be 2½ hours away. On the positive side they just completed a bunch of work & upgrades to their building.
They've spent too many years competing with Hobby Lobby while their yarn and fabric selections have remained stagnent. Only a few stores got the Liberty fabrics, which could have really set them apart. I hate that they're closing stores, but I'm not surprised
Near me we are getting a second Hobby Lobby soon about 15 minutes away. I have to admit I like the quality of their cotton quilt fabric and some of their prints better than Joann's. Thankfully, however our Joann's is supposed to stay open....for now.
I’m so very sorry.:( You have every right to be sad. I just went to Joann’s today, and I have no idea if my store is closing. I hope you are fortunate enough to get one of the shelf units, to remind you of your happy place, and be useful again in your home.❤
The entire corporation is in terrible financial trouble. They have filed for bankruptcy and will most likely be closing many more stores in the near future. Very sad.
I'm worried about mine now. The store here is just as empty as the one you are showing except this one has a ton of fleece. And there is still a ton of decorative items which has some of the same items as Family Dollar.
My local JoAnn's looked open, but there was so much trash out in front of it. I couldn't understand why the manager wasn't sending someone out front to clean it up. No one would want to go in with it like that.
A very sad day when a fabric store closes! Should say when ANY store/business closes. What are the employees to do? What about the loyal customers? Hopefully my local store isn't going to close!
That's very sad. It's really upsetting when your local sewing shop closes its doors. The local one that had a machine serviceman closed last week, the nearest repair agent is now 4 1/2 hours away. As an aside - I was surprised to see that you had your items in a plastic shopping bag. Single use plastic bags have been illegal here in Australia for some time. Reusable shopping bags made from 'what was I thinking' fabrics are a great way to make room - for more fabric. I really enjoy your videos, thank you, and best wishes😊
I just saw your store location, Oh my gosh I live in Linesville. I lived in Bunker Hill for a while, that was my JOANN"S too. I hope the Meadville location stays open! Anyway I am sorry to see it closing. It is very cool that we are in the same neck of the woods!
As a garment sewist, I truly wouldn't care if they closed. Then I could at least justify a 3 hour drive to Atlanta once a year. JAs fabric selection for garments was always the worst in town when we had other alternatives. For years its been easy to see they truly did not care.
@@cliftonmcnalley8469 I have started thrifting for good fabric on out of style apparel and upcycling. Making skirts from tablecloths, etc. I make my own clothes and fabric stores in general cater to quilters.
I just found out my local store is closing too. I never shopped there much because my Joann's is small and a bigger Michael's is in the same shopping center, but I can understand how bad it could be to lose one when there are no other craft stores nearby. It's still sad to see it go because the store has been there as long as I can remember.
I've been an avid shopper since the 90's. Everything from cross stitch, knitting, and crafting. I've become a quilter in the past 3 years, and I have to say, I buy exclusively on Etsy because you can't beat Moda in terms of quality and selection. So sad, but nothing to do about it. I hope the stores that stay open really step up their game.
My Mom and I miss A.C. Moore and Ben Franklin's. I also miss Coates & Clark and such. It seems Loops & Threads is taking over and the product is seemingly less quantity and/or lesser quality. Such a bummer. 😞
It's so sad. There are very few fabric and crafts stores as it is. Yes there is Hobby Lobby (my favorite) and Michael's, but they don't have the selection of fabrics like Joanne's. When a store has to shutter its doors, it hurts my heart.😢
This looks like the JoAnns that closed in Washington, PA a couple pf years ago. It was really sad. I got fabric to use for quilt backs for 80% off. I was visiting my daughter snd had to figure out how to getnit all home on the plane!
I do hope with new management they realize it is a fabric store! We want high standards of fabric and a large collection of sewing items. no flags, candles, knick-knacks, lawn art.
I think they need to reorganize by getting back to the basics. Leave the home goods stuff to Hobby Lobby and Michael’s. It was called House of Fabrics before JoAnns for a reason. Also, when you go public on the stock exchange it’s about profits and shareholders. That’s when it went downhill.
The one I shop at certainly isn’t overpriced and the coupons keep me coming back. Once people stopped shopping online exclusively, and the pandemic sewing craze (much like sourdough) died away, it went back to pre-pandemic and they like many retailers didn’t see it collapsing so quickly.😊
I can’t say anything about other stores employees, there’s no need to be rude. We have been under a lot of stress lately, less hours, less employees and more work. We were months behind in getting product out and being pushed by some D.M., then hearing all of these rumors… it’s been hard, but still no reason to be rude. Most of our customers are fantastic people. This is the best job I’ve had, the customers and my workers are both a huge part of that ( and I’m a sewing enthusiast 😊). Please be patient with us as we maneuver thru this rocky time.
No, they did not necessarily do it to themselves. They foolishly handed it over to shareholders now they’re taking it back. But I’m sure some of the under performing stores are going to close anyway.
😢😢😢😢😢 everything is closing. First arts and crafts stores, scrapbooking stores. Now this and Tuesday morning even Boston Market. It's so sad. You have to order online which Is good but not the same not as much fun 😢😢😢💔💔💔
So sad I have 3 around all within about 20mins from me. He only other store is a hobby lobby or possibly a quilt shop but idk if they recovered after Covid😢😢
I gave thumbs up to your awesome tribute to your local store and a thumbs down for the store closing! It’s so sad! On a lighter note, I love your content!
I was recently went to Joanne's on Pico boulevard in Los Angeles and to my surprise. Certain parts was out of product and packaging was missing and had default products in the packages. I was surprised and heard due to The Times we're in and fearful of Joann's closing down. I bought $100 worth of same binding and get Home. And it was the wrong thing that was all they had there. Some of the buttons didn't have backings in the little packages. I mean, little package buttons is Joanne's on peeko and LA Brea or LA. St year, I'm going to close. ?😢
So sad. I think we are still experiencing the backlash from the covid years. People didn’t go out for so long, they got used to not shopping in person as much. It sure has hurt the local stores.
