Talk about frustration!! We go to a campground where we reserved a 99 foot long campsite that is only 55 feet long. And we are told to go the wrong way down a narrow road. Now we have to backup and can't because of rocks and trees. This was the most difficult campsite we have ever tried to get in to.

Hi guys... We feel your pain Mr. And Mrs. Truck driver.... Been there done that... With my limited supply of patience... I would probably have taken the first site that I think I could have got into and let them work it out... Or maybe.. Got the host and let him know that that site was not 99 feet and possibly give him the opportunity of finding me a site on his own... Before patience ran completely out... In any event both of you guys handled it with a lot of grace.... That is what is called "team work"... Pat both of you all on the back... Thanks for the video.. Stay safe...J&A

Ya, Dave's patience fuse is short, and yours is about half of his. LOL. The host said he was going to contact USACE to see if he could get them to fix the info on their website. Not going to hold our breathe for that.

Poor Dave , you could hear the frustration in his voice , that was I think the hardest one I've watched you do. Certainly a great price and a shame the host was a little disorganized with his info. As far as pay goes ....that was stressful, time consuming and a tight squeeze , you both easily deserve the equivalent of 8 beers each just for the arrival 😎 also well done Karen for keeping Dave's desire to leave suppressed, that cant have been easy , myself .....I was with Dave , leaving was seeming a good choice faced with that task 👍
@WattsOnWheels
@WattsOnWheels 9 месяцев назад
It was definitely stressful, but I knew there would be no other campground to go to. Yellowstone area campgrounds book up a year in advance and boondocking sights are slim pickings for a big rig. I thought he'd be able to get into the sight once we got turned around, but boy was it difficult. If it would have been someone with lesser skill, they'd probably still be there.

My wife and I were owner operators for nearly 40 years. Our last two trucks were big sleepers. I can’t tell you how many places we went to where ‘we get big trucks in here all the time’. Many times just driving in cities could be a challenge. What I see your first mistake was not walking down a checking out the situation. That was something we did all the time.

@@WattsOnWheels , thank you for the kind reply. While we were still working we bought a 5th wheel hauler. I told my wife that I drag a 53 trailer around every day, the last thing I want to do on vacation is to deal with that big. We bought a 28 foot 5th wheel and a 4 door LWB 2500 HD GMC to haul it. That was back in 2003. We still own it . We retired 2 years ago. ( and don’t miss trucking at all). We also just went from 2 wheels ( Harleys) to a Spyder, loving it so far. Nice setup you have.

I have enough fun with my 5r being a retired heavy duty wrecker operator I have a lot of experience with pulling semis with a trailer, I don't think I would have much fun hauling a HTD around trying to navigate campgrounds built years ago before this was a thing. Unless I knew the campground and had a repeat route. But that takes away the fun of exploring new places. I spent a lot of money on a huge Victron system to be off grid as much as possible. Nice back up job man. That was tight. I seen in the start you guys complained about no map. Just wondering why would you guys would not look at map on line when booking and-road maps and access points and turn around points being such a long vehicle. That doent just spin around easy ? With all do respect of course. Just a question

Actually we do a lot of homework before reserving a campsite and we try to make them 6 or more months in advance to have long sites. This includes aerial views, other peoples RU-vid videos and reviews. We spend hours and hours setting up trips, but sometimes the visual aids/aerials are not available or just trees can be seen. This happen to be one of them and we took our chances.

12 pack of beer for Dave. It amazes me on how clueless some places/Employees are on the length of a site. We had been lied to so many times on the length of a site. Then we got the ones that when we came in. "We don't have anything big enough for that." Or "You never said you had that big of a rig." Could almost see stream coming out of my wife's ears. She made the reservations. Would always say we have a 25-foot semi-truck, a 35-foot 5th wheel and a 15-foot car. Do you have a site big enough for us? Also agree you two were too generous in your grading. At any rate. Have fun in Yellowstone and watch out for the stupid Tourons.
@WattsOnWheels

Most campgrounds don't care as long as they get your reservation...and then try to sort it out later. Whenever possible, while making reservations, we describe ourselves as a Walmart truck and send a picture whenever possible.

First of all don't expect the host to do your job for you. Get out and look. When he said pull straight down here, you should have walked the road first. You should know by now you don't have a normal rig and it won't fit in a normal campground. 99% of the problems you had were on you. Yes your navigator did awesome.

We usually drop the car and drive first. We definitely should have walked it first. Lesson learned. But all the rocks were crazy.

You guys have a very unique rig that is extra long compared to most set ups. If you do not have the patience to deal with situations like this then get a shorter rig. All you guys did was blame everyone else.

You guys were too generous in your grading. After their lying about how long a rig could use the sight, not helping you until you were in an impossible situation, and not letting you use the pull through because of their error, their final score should not be a C (Average). That was far, far below average!!! You both deserve more than beer, how about a big buffalo steak there in WestYellowstone!! You earned it!!!

I hear your disappointment that the site was "shorter" than advertised, but, with all due respect, .... Your rig, with 5th wheel and towable is "massive" , .... so I would think that you run into this kind of issue (even with researching sites), fairly regularly .... ??

No, not really. We had 26 stops on this tour and this was the only one that gave us problems. It was also the only one that had erroneous information. I spend a ton of time to try and ensure we will fit whenever possible.

Been there, done that. We are very selective of where we stay, but we ran into a similar situation where there was just no way we were going to make it in and they had a divider in the site, so their web site was very wrong. At least you made it in, we didn't even try, it was just way too tight. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5WwwcaUHCKk.html

First of all learn to plan your trip. You could had parked and walked up to your spot. Then you could planed it out. Next thing you really need to practice on backing. Now I agree that you have a big truck. That is the way to haul a big trailer. Alot better ride also, you will get a lot more miles out of it. Yes, I do know what I am talking about 3 million miles on the road. The next and worse thing you can do is get upset. That is when you make very bad decisions.
