I love Nate’s story of using slang, by accident with la tia de su amigo Luis. I am learning Spanish. My wife and suegros are Mexicanos, and obviamente, they use slang, at times. I was talking to a customer, at the rental company I work for, in Spanish, which, again, I am learning. And in a moment of trying to think quickly, I was trying to to tell the customer that if they have an issue with the equipment, to call me immediately (inmediatamente), but I couldn’t think of that word, so I said “llámame en chinga” 🤦🏽‍♂️ my wife laughed so hard when I told her what I had said 😂

Me encanta ver un gringo pelirojo hablando español con fluidez y con un acento tan mexicano. Eso me ayudó cambiar mi perspectiva así que me puedo imaginar como una verdadera hispanohablante. Lograr la mentalidad de que puedo ser bilingüe es el mayor obstáculo al que me enfrento para lograr mis objetivos de aprendizaje de idiomas. Nunca he conocido a una persona verdaderamente bilingüe de mi grupo étnico. Nate demuestra que ser un paisano bilingüe es posible.

No me gusta la gramática pero todos sabemos que es un tema muy importante. Me cambié mi perspectiva de ver el subjuntivo. Al principio pensaba que Cómo puedo usarlo y ya cuáles son las ventajas del subjuntivo. Y nos hace fácil a comprender realmente que está pasando. Así yo creo.

I've heard a lot about this podcast so decided to give it a go. Unfortunately it's a bit beyond my level right now and even with spanish subs on I can maybe understand about 50% but it's so damn hard having to translate at that speed. Have you any material that would help close that gap. Is your patreon aimed solely at the intermediate level and beyond?

Hola Timothy. We're glad you have heard about us. Thanks for commenting. What we offer in Patreon is word by word transcript in Spanish. It's interactive in the sense that you can click on any word and listen to it over and over as well as changing the speed. We also provide a vocabulary guide with the most difficult words translated into English. So yes, it is meant to provide an almost native-like experience. The more you listen and the more you read along, the more words you will recognize (this is feedback we have recieved from our members). So yes, it is more for intermediate students, but beginners can use this podcast as a comprehensible input material. Como alguien que tiene casi el mismo tiempo hablar y aprender el español como Nate (7 años o mas) todavia no tengo la fluencia que el tiene y Nate es una inspiración pero estoy mejorando muchismo mas rapido ultimamente por mirar podcasts así aparte de otras iniciativas. Normalmente prefiero mirar podcasts con nativos, pero él representa lo que las personas como yo podemos lograr al mismo nivel con la dedicación que el tiene. Si de verdad quieres mejorar hay que poner el mismo esfuerzo que el ha hecho. Leer en español, reunirse con tutores una vez a la semana (uso Italki), escuchar podcasts así, pero lo mas importante que no es facil para muchos pero mas valioso es ponerse en posiciones donde puedas conversar con nativos. Si no hay muchos en tu área, viaja al lugares hispanos donde no hay otra opcion, o visita los restaurantes hispanicos y tambien puedes conocer a la gente en las iglesias españoles. Hola! Sí podemos. Aprendimos en la escuela un poco, pero realmente en la vida: mucha tele, canciones, hablar con otras personas y entre nosotros. Leemos mucho en inglés, vemos muchos videos y también estudiamos cosas en inglés (sobre audio, sobre marketing, sobre cocinar… todo todo) ☺️

Hola David y Ana y claro que Nate también ¿que pasa?yo aprendí Español con telenovelas Méxicanas con mi mamá cuando era una niña quería aprender Español,Francés,Tatariano y Inglés al mismo tiempo cuando era una adolescente empezó aprender Español con las canciones de Shakira ¡que pena! ya estoy aprendiendo y mejorando y tengo 27 años

Sí, aunque en México la escuela secundaria es otra cosa, donde van los niños de 12-15 años y la prepa es de 15-18. Es diferente el sistema al de EUA.

Would that it _were_ not so, but English definitely has a subjunctive mood -- although it seems to be in decline. Increasingly English speakers do not mark counterfactuals with subjunctive mood grammar.
