I don't remember the exact quote, but Ren said he wrote this while going thru some stuff and he was just pissed at the world and wanted to destroy everything. Then there's the lyric "Kill these metaphors I write to all attachments in this life..." I believe it means you have to let go of everything, even if only metaphorically, to be able to evolve. And in order to do so, you need to handle the pain of that evolution, even love it - like a masochist That's my take on it, anyway. Ren explained it fully in the twitch chat after the video premiered, but I didn't see the whole thing. Loved your reaction tho! ❣️🦇❣️🦇❣️🦇❣️

A masochist loves pain, if you kill the things you love, you're ultimately hurting yourself, which brings you (if you're a masochist) pleasure. Also, he mentioned that it was kind of a "let go of everything and restart" metaphor.

I love this song! Ren was in a bad place at the time he wrote this and basically wanted to burn everything and start over. The whole song is basically a metaphor. Ocean is also a UK musician. Ren expected this song to alienate a good portion of his fans when he released it, which is also masochistic. Great reaction 💜💜

Exactly, this is correct. People who get stuck on the "kill everything" part completely miss the song title and the meaning of the word masochist. He doesn't want to hurt others, he wants to hurt himself.

This is what qualifies as good music... To be honest... It fits. Everything else we say is good, awesome, or amazing nowadays is mediocre at best, and downright degenerate at worst.. Dunno Who Ren is but just dropping in because youtube recommended your video. I'll give you a sub and a like because I'd want people to help me out if I got recommended to them, but REN is horrible...

If this the only thing you’ve heard by Ren, try a couple more. He is independent so doesn’t have a corporation insisting he has to pick a genre and stick either it, so there’s a wide range. Admittedly a lot of stuff and last years album in particular, are heavily influenced by his years of undiagnosed and then misdiagnosed illness, and the mistreatment as mental health issue instead of physical health. Nearly a decade if ‘it’s all in your head’ when it was actually Lyme disease . Lots of anger, lots of pain.

He is one of the top artist out there. He is multi-talented, he can play multiple instruments sing like an Angel every genre. Check out, Ren: (back on 74/message in a bottle) retake. If you don't think it is good then so be it. One song doesn't make an artist...he has many in all genres.

@@bocrillz2488 There is no reason you have to keep your opinions to yourself. I'm a huge Ren fan and have no problem with differing opinions. A chunk of Ren fans did not like this song either(he explains he was not in a good place when he made this song), but he puts it out there because he is independent and authentic and true to himself. But I only point out to not judge Ren on one song. He can do many genres and plays all the music for them. I recommend (back on 74/message in a bottle) to give him a fair shot. 😊
