people have still said he was a dick after that. obviously idk the man so my opinion doesn’t matter and honestly i don’t really care whether he is or not but people like rvd and others have said he was still a jerk. except this time he used the cover of religion to hide behind. they’ve also said he was fake and not much had actually changed. but who knows. you’re not the perfect nice person you think you are in every one’s version of you in their head.
That just goes to show that you can do your best to make amends but some bridges stay burned forever. Better to treat others with kindness from day one if you wish to receive kindness back.
Came back to this and im still pressed that they started that question with that and it was so perfect for a rockers question but the dude just only thinks of the rock😭
Why? Did you know him for you to like the fact he said sorry to everyone he worked with ? I always thought it was weird when fans care so passionately about backstage stories when they weren't there
What else does Dwayne have left to prove at this point? he let his actions in his professional life do the talking for himself. i agree, this shit was in the past. you can't change it but you can move on and not let it impact your life
There's a couple stories about what happened behind the scenes but Rock definitely did an interview 20+ years ago saying he had no interest in ever working with Shawn Michaels
I've always said it was never heat like that between Shawn and The Rock like everyone made it to be. Hell, Shawn in his prime said he never had a problem with The Rock and that he liked The Rock. Shawn said that he was a fan of The Rock's Saturday Night Live performance.
It was real heat. I believe it was simply one-sided. Rock didn't like HBK but HBK didn't ever really respond to it. But the heat was most definitely there.
They had a window in '02/'03 to work together. If HBK had one more championship run, I would've loved to see him beat Hollywood Rock for it, who also deserved a championship run with that character.
Shawn didnt run the locker room he was scared to show his face in the locker room because undertaker hated him and most ppl back then could've killed him if they wanted too, just look at what Mark Henry was going to do to hbk
It's not a mystery. Shawn is downplaying how much Rock disliked him back then. There are many reports that Shawn was also trying to keep the Rock out of big matches because he was jealous of how quickly he was blowing up. Not to mention Rock was very close with Bret Hart who famously had a big feud with Shawn. Shawn and Rock are cool now but it wasn't like that early on.
@@Tourist-Q I think The Rock almost or did put hands on him in the locker room when HBK kicked him too hard so that is one of the reasons to me that match did not happened.
@@nba_fan7214 it actually goes back even further than that. Shawn was working for the Rock's mom's side of his family at one point and was disrespectful to his grandmother.
@Going woke Is a Joke Scripted, not fake. Pro wrestlers suffer more debilitating injuries long term than most "traditional sport" athletes. Kurt Angle opens up about it during his Off The Record interview with Lansberg from 2004.
We all watched Shawn go from being the Heartbeat Kid to the mature HBK. I have nothing but respect for how that man battled his demons and just became a better human being. If you never watched Heartbreak and Triumph The Shawn Michaels story, watch it!
So Chris Candido is alive and other wrestlers that killed themselves or never got their shine thanks to him from his back stage politics are fine now. Vader, Bret Hart, Marty, left Instead of battling Rock and Stone.
Nah Shawn was running wild with DX & Kliq. Man was an asshole but an entertaining one. Only problem was he never drop titles inside the squared circle lol. He delivered classic matches just like in his second run but him as a heel was better than his babyface run. Hell, I would even go as much to say he kick started Attitude Era in WWE.
Say what you will bout Shawn as a person or character wise but as a wrestler and a performer…maaaannnnnn he changed the game. It’s no coincidence that damn near every wrestler has added the super kick in their move set. He perfected it. His influence is forever over the industry and only a handful of 🐐 can say that. Shawn’s one of em. 💯
Wdym why? When the Rock started hittin his Prime during year 98 & 99 at the epitome of the Attitude Era Shawn was already retired from wrestling before making a miraculous comeback in 2002 when Rock was already on his way to Hollywood. They never had so much as a chance. Even during last years of Shawn in the 90s when Rock was a mid-carder hbk was busy & booked feuding Bret & Austin in the main events.
The rock didn't want to work with Shawn once he hit it big, due to the Shawn giving his grandmom a hard time and the rock never forgot that. Shawn knows what he did and is sugar coating what he did and is acting like it was strictly between him and the rock ignoring the fact about the rocks grandmom
@@bigdaddyroy5382 not entirely true, Rocky never declined or stated that he didn’t want to work with Shawn, It just never happened ,Rocky even said that he would love to work with Shawn, during his HOF speech, Jim Cornette and Bruce Prichard also stated that “if Vince wanted Rocky vs Shawn, We would’ve got Rocky vs Shawn because Vince called the shots not Rocky” but yes it would’ve been a Great match
@@ricoway8592 there's a reason the rock owns the rock and that's cause the rock called his shot. Same way stone cold didn't work with who stone cold didn't work with. Pritchard is a horrible source he lies and avoids the truth like no other
@@bigdaddyroy5382 True indeed, we’ve just never heard the Rock say any of those things, only he say she say , A lot of gossip and rumors, Could be true tho, who knows for sure because we sure don’t.
"I went and apologized but I think everyone makes too big a deal about what I did." Sure sounds like a guy who didn't mean his apologies and doesn't really accept that his actions had a negative impact on other people.
“Sorry” 😅. How could you still hate this guy lol , most people in the comments weren’t even born or old enough to understand wrestling when he was on top so why truly hate off of stories you heard?
@@harrycahill2140 the worst thing is that Shawn Michaels never admits to anything... He just keeps downplaying things. This just proves that he barely changed.
I believe it's cordial at best. In a episode of Young Rock. There is a character that is implied to be Shawn Michaels and there is some choice words about him.
Bro yeah Shawn was a jerk in his younger days probably because he was so extremely talented that he got cocky but you could tell he changed when he came back in 2002 & i’m honestly glad for that.
Shawn Michaels was popular in earlier parts of the attitude era 1997/1998( screwjob, DX, heel champ) The Rock was popular in the middle part/hottest part of the attitude era 1999-2000 Kurt Angle, Hardyz ,Edge Christian were popular in the later parts of the era 2001
In other words, he was extremely arrogant when he was top dog and treated people like crap. But people who do that don’t realize they won’t be at the top forever. Eventually they have to come down the mountain and see others be at the top…And those people remember how you treated them
He didn't just treat them like crap He actively sabotaged their careers and ability to make money People tend to take that shit really personally especially when you come back and give people a half hearted meaningless apology
Jim Cornette pretty much said the same thing; HBK was an a$$hole to everyone not in The Kliq, he just didn’t single out The Rock. The Rock rose above all of this and never publicly said anything negative about Shawn Michaels.
When Rock inducted his Dad into the WWE HOF, he spoke highly of Shawn, & Shawn was sitting next to Rock’s grandmother. So Rocky definitely looked back.
It goes both ways.... Yessss we all know Shawn was an A-hole back then, and it he seemed to change his life, buuuut, to some people, some things are inexcusable... Maybe he did things to some people backstage that they consider unforgivable.. There's no right or wrong here, and judging by the way he said "sorry" in the video, maybe the wrestlers he apologized to didn't think it was sincere
The rocks grandma had a wrestling promotion in Hawaii and Shawn was rude and mean af to her. So the rock never forgave him and when he got insanely over he made sure never work with him .
There was more to the story once Rock joined the WWE. HBK and HHH tried to bury and bully him when he was a rookie back in 1997. Also, HBK was one of the biggest naysayers against Rock main eventing WM 15. Coupled with all that and the disrespect to his family, Rock for a time refused to work a match/feud with HBK. But it seems that they have made peace as of 2008 and beyond.
@@CCEkeke Wrong. HHH didn't try to bury Rock or anyone else. 1. He and Rock always got along well and were friends for years. Not bffs, but friends nonetheless. 2. Rock was not a rookie in 97. He was a rookie in 96. 3. Even if HHH wanted to bury someone then, he had ZERO power to do so. He was punished/buried for the Curtain Call and for four years wasn't allowed to ascend to the top. 4. The heat was solely with Rock/HBK. Not HHH. But if you've read HBK'S book and DX's book, you'll learn HHH was dragged into a lot of HBK'S heat and drama solely by association because he was his friend.
@@Speedyreedy1218 Wrong. Rock debuted in Survivor Series November 1996, which means most of 1997 was his rookie year. Rock and Hunter were not friends when the former joined the WWE. They had a very competitive relationship and could work together but weren't friends. In HHH's own words, "we got along, but we didn't get along." HHH and HBK were sitting in on creative meetings back in 1997. This was confirmed by Stephanie McMahon and other wrestlers. Alot of Hunter's stroke early in his career came from his friendship with The Kliq and then later HBK before he became the leader of DX back in 1998. Jericho (who said the Rock told him this) and other wrestlers confirmed that HBK (mainly) and HHH hazed Rock during his rookie year. Also, HBK's book contains a number of discrepancies that have since been debunked. l so I wouldn't trust that as a source for much of HBK's admissions of guilt.
@@CCEkeke Nope. They literally have said multiple times they were friends and got along. Rock said it in HHH'S 25th anniversary tribute and HHH said so in his book. Do not misunderstand a competitive rivalry to be synonymous with hatred. Peyton, Brees, Brady were all rivals. Competition breeds success and makes the bond deeper. Chasing the same things at the same time doesn't mean you loathe someone. Many disgruntled former talent say negative things about HHH and HBK because they're Kliq members and hate them. You can draw a laundry list of people who allege things on them because their career didn't end the way they wanted it to, or thought it should. Many go on to later reveal in these "shoots" (that they were paid to do to push a narrative) that they were in a bad place emotionally, with addictions, jealousy, etc and have regretted statements they made and reconciled with HHH, HBK, and WWE at large (Warrior, Goldberg, Road Dogg, Billy Gunn, Steiner, so on and so on). Similarly, there's others who've had positive things to say about them (Justin Credible, DDP, Disco Inferno, Russo, Mero, Ahmed Johnson, Farooq, Undertaker, Austin, Angle, Trish Stratus, Malenko, Flair, Steamboat, Arn Anderson). When HBK "lost his smile" in 97 and relinquished the title for his knee injury (which turned out to be both for the knee injury and drug rehab), Vince was down and worried about a ratings dip. He wanted something big on that Raw. HHH was asked by Vince to drop the IC title to Rock and he had no problem doing it. He didn't try to wormhole around it and have a buddy beat him for it like how HBK did with Razor or Diesel. He straight up put Rock over without hesitation when Vince asked him to do the job. That was the beginning of Vince realizing HHH was the reliable, professional, dedicated, responsible true leader of the Kliq (behind closed doors) despite the others having the bigger reputation and profile on camera.
@@dietrichmyatt9822 At the time when Rock first came in Shawn was the top guy so obviously he could use his position to bully rock despite his smaller stature
@@dietrichmyatt9822 Rock was a rookie at the time and HBK was one of the top guys in the company. There's a pecking order in wrestling promotions and Rock was trying not to be a problem back then.
He's running things over at NXT, helping the future of the business out? Very weird that you think that's an unusual or disappointing thing for a retired performer to be doing.
