Interesting comparison - thank you! I am new to watercolor and am using tubes and palettes. I don't fill my brush from the palette "well" but even if not mixing colors, I fill from the mixing tray so guess I avoided the too much paint issue of newbies. I started 4 months ago with just 6 colors so mixed everything ... so got in the habit of working from the mixing wells. I have wondered about the pans and think I can stop wondering :) . I might buy some empty pans to make mini-travel palettes, though. Yes, I subscribed and as a beginner, I vote for beginner videos but really, I think you should make what you enjoy. I bounce around sometimes watching advanced tutorials and often there are techniques that I can use even at my current skill level, so it is all good as far as I'm concerned!

Howdy Leila, Although - as a non-artist - the topic of this latest upload/episode is a little bit lost on me, yet, like a commenter below says = I did not know that you could get watercolour paint in liquid/tube form..... Pro's and Con's with both types seemingly?. To be honest = Just good to hear your voice really. And, even though I have never been artisticly-minded - more mechanically-minded?, some aspects of engineering are "art" in my opininon..... high-end/professional TIG/aluminium welding being an example?? : - super pretty to look at !, it's just interesting to learn about the "nuts + bolts" of what is - a pretty common hobby, and even livelihood/trade for many, should I be involved in a conversation with an artist in the future for example. I went out with a local artist for a few months 10-ish years ago, very talented - she'd sell her bigger works for 4 figure sums - and, if I had the knowledge of the profession/trade I have now thanks to you = Maybe the relationship would have lasted longer (?!!). Who Knows..... We must'nt dwell on the past right??. All The Best To You Down There Chuck, Nick x

I'm glad you found it helpful even though you don't use watercolour. 😊

I am a semi-retired self-employed software developer ... mechanical engineer father ... high math skills and interest. I think software development, engineering is absolutely creative. I was teased for my "art" as a child and assumed I was not creative. At 68, I've become interested in drawing, watercolor, sketching and I think in some parts of art, I draw on my math skills: perspective and proportion for example. All to say ... since you found this video interesting ... you might find actually drawing: technical, architecture, ??? enjoyable and who knows ... maybe an artist within.

@@theroadhome_Liz_Summers This is a very good point. We always get inspiration from life around us. A few years ago I've made a video about people feeling they are not talented ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Rd-v-JWt1hc.html please share it with anyone who needs to hear it!

@@LeilaAtaya I watched it last night ... holy cow!! So helpful to me and I will keep the link handy. I am planning on doing some tech for senior "classes" and also working in some "learn new things" ideas. This would be great if there is resistance to "new" based on fear of failure - Thank you!!

I don't think it's an accident that most art supply stores in the United States sell cheaper quality watercolor in pan sets, and professional quality paints in tubes. When you start out you just want a lot of colors and you don't know which ones you actually like. You are also probably hesitant to spend a lot of money one a new hobby. Experienced painters have stronger opinions about which brands and colors they like, and they are willing to pay more for what they want. Once you have the basic colors, an artist may only add one or two new colors at a time, which is ideal for tubes.

Absolutely! And if choosing between lots of colours but lower quality paint vs more expensive paint but fewer colours always go for the second option. With w/c you only need 6 colours to mix anything you want. It is fun to add more colours but it's not necessary. Create a multiplication table to see the variety that 1+1 can create. This is a good video to watch before opening new paint as well ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7hkjq4JyijA.html
