Everton fan here. Agree completely with all the analysis and always thought Everton would be to smart for Ipswich but I think you’ll have enough to stay up. Not to sure Keane is worth 50 million though!

Everton fan here, coming in peace. I completely agree it was a penalty, but two weeks ago Dan Burn did the exact same thing to us, taking out DCL’s plant foot! I totally understand your frustration-it sucks. But honestly, I believe you guys will stay up! Out of all the promoted clubs, I like you the best. Best of luck for the rest of the season!

Personally don’t think either were pens but at least they were consistent in the decision on both occasions. Honestly surprised they didn’t give one and not give one, the standard of officiating is abysmal and has been for years.

The performance reminded me a lot of the 2021 2-0 home game vs Rotherham back when Cookie was in charge. Completely shut out of the game and demonstrated the level we need to be at. That was in League One and this is the Premier League, so that shows us how far we’ve come in such a short space of time. I think this game showed us we need to seriously up our level if we want to survive, McKenna has a proven record of improving us in a short space of time, so we just have to hope he can do it again albeit in a much shorter space of time. And hey if we go down we have something great to build on. Honestly it’ll come down to a matter of time.

McKenna is the most considered manager in the league and for him to be critical of the decision speaks volumes for me.

The problem with the penalty in my opinion is if you watch it close Clarke is going to ground before he makes contact with O'Neil if he wasn't its a penalty and Evertons penalty shout against Newcastle was more a penalty than this one and they got it overturned.

I'd completely go back to the promotion squad for Brentford, just to see how they do. Then bring on Delap, J Clarke, Ogbene and Szmodics in the middle of the second half when necessary. Back to basics, a system we know works.

Re: Penalty decision... if McNeil was the last man and fouls Clarke outside the box in exactly the same way... its a foul and a red.... VAR wouldn't over rule that... so how is it not a foul inside the box

Nice podcast, Ben. It's the first time I've ever watched it for obvious reasons, but I had some spare time today. As I said at the start of the season. There are no bad teams in the Premier League. The gulf between the Championship is massive. Leicester have a chance of staying up because they have been there before. Their club is centred around the Premier League with players and staff who have experienced it. Ipswich doesn't. Good luck with the next game. It will be a long season. I didn't like it last year when we were there. Var, the sterile grounds didn't make it an enjoyable experience, but it's where we all won't to be.

Penalty would have been soft, but like Joe I’m extremely annoyed by the VAR involvement as it isn’t a clear error. Hearing the referee was led by VAR just shows how it is continuing to be used incorrectly. Add on the Man City game incident where VAR did not do a check as it was not a clear error…. When you could argue the error was bigger!

On the thought about being a yo-yo club. I think in hindsight that it may have been good to have had a second season in the championship so we could have potentially embedded better players there rather than such a big upgrade in the premier league although of course we would have still needed to upgrade although perhaps not as much? I still think we will stay up and what we can do in January perhaps with fee's or loans that maybe also be pivotal.

IMO. let's face reality - The squad isn't good enough! The gulf between good Championship players @ £15m and mid ranking Premier League players @ £30m+ is enormous. We don't create enough chances per game. We don't score enough of those chances we create. Delap is a young striker learning his trade, and we can't just rely on him to dig us out of trouble. Where are the goals going to come from? I'm blue and white to the core, but face the facts, all the talk of mid table were fantasy this is a going to be hang on to Premier League status by our fingernails.

Argue all you like about VAR and moan about one missed opportunity and defensive errors - over the course of the game we were outplayed and lucky to get away with 0-2. Not competitive against poorer sides. Worrying.

That clown arguing about the VAR decision, needs to learn to read, even after Ben explained it it didn't click. It was never a penalty, Ben knew it, as did the other guy. Good pod apart from his bias nonsense. The fact is we was way off it, the scoreline massively flattered us. We were poor, Burns and wolfy should be nowhere near this league. And what a massive flop Philips is,

@@joefairs2240 I honestly that if it was against any other club, you would have had the pen. VAR and the PL screwed themselves when they denied us, an even more blatent, penalty against Newcastle, citing that DCL kicked the defender leg. It's new rules, now as long as the defender can get between the ball and the attackers leg, it's deemed as a foul against the attacker. We used to call it tripping someone up until about two weeks ago.
