I'm running i7 3770 and GTX 1660 OC 6gb. Still running but it's getting a lot harder on AAA games after 2020. F1 2023 running ~50-70 FPS (HIGH) but Jedi Survivor at 20-40 (ULTRA LOW). Some suggestions for around 100 FPS on 1080p 60HZ?

I'd be much more interested to see a column (or 2, 3...) of price evolution. In January prices have actually gone up across the board, no? This GPU market is still beyond absurd. Absolutely ZERO progress whatsoever. (6800xt@$500 has been the benchmark since BF2022. It's been 1y+ and the 7800xt (roughly the same performance) sells at the same price. Practically, 0 improvement. 6700xt should be comfortably below 300, but it ain't. Been selling for 320-350 for 1y+, too. Dafuq! Nvidia is a joke across the lineup.) A used 6800 seems to me as one of the very, very few decent deals ATM.

@@martinmilchakov6179 The 2060 Super might put you over the top in F1 2023 but I don't believe you'll even get close in Jedi Survivor. The 3770 is probably going to bottleneck anything better than your 1660. If your motherboard can handle the 4th Gen i7s (4770 or 4790) that would help because of the improved instructions per cycle. If you have a Z97 motherboard you could even go with the unlocked 4770K/4790K versions (along with faster RAM), but I'm not sure if any Z87 boards can take the 4790K. Even then more modern GPUs won't be fully utilized. Best of luck!

The last 8GB cards I bought were a 5700XT and a 2070 Super, both new. The current minimum for a GPU priced over $250 should be 12GB. Over $400, 16GB. A card that's priced over $1000 should have 24GB, sing your favorite songs, and make lunch.

Jason has that enthusiasm that is really good to see. You can really tell he is doing this for the "love of the game" and not just going through the motions. And he has a very down to earth way of laying things out so even us casual PC part fans understand what he is talking about. Jason is just great at this. Been following him for a couple years now and will for the foreseeable future. Great content.

The only sad thing is the prices, which are realistic within US borders. Outside US we all pay a hefty premium which aint even worth it to be honest. Where i live most prices are about +200usd more that it is for anyone within the US. Which makes these prices unrealistic for most of us. Great video for US gamers, not so much for the rest of the world, pretty much. 😞

I was just looking at the available 4080 Supers - not a one at NE or Amazon, and the available 4080's are well into the $1200++ range. Even the 7900 XT's and XTX's are facing some availability issues it seems while prices seem to be ticking up. Finding a white card is even more difficult in both availability and affordability. Best I can do is at NE for a white 7900 XTX Power Color Hellhound for $1K, and an ASRock Phantom white 7900XT for ~$750.00. That's quite a price difference for the added memory and some extra speed. The market is just crazy.

Rumor is they didn't have a large stock of the 4080 supers available at launch (one of their signature moves). We'll be doing another GPU Market Update in a week or so but I'd hold off buying high end GPUs for a bit to how prices shake out.

I tried to snag a 4080s as soon as I saw the local pricing a lot cheaper than the original 4080. When I checked online the next day stock was gone but then a day later more stock arrived. Not sure maybe trickery but at the same time I knew that I really wanted to get the 4080s at that price point. It was very similar to a 7900xtx price locally.

I'm just starting to learn about these modern video cards having been a console player for the longest time, one common theme I keep seeing on these reviews is, "if I save a little more money..." so you end up never buying a video card. Or you end up chasing video cards down a rabbit hole, starting at $250, then for $50 more you can get something better, but for $70 more you can get this even better card, then next thing you know, you're looking at $900 cards when you were looking at $250 cards from the start. I'm a big fan of used and open box components. Last week I pulled the trigger on a Gigabyte RTX 4060 Ti 16GB OC, open box from Best Buy for $415. It's my first high performance card, at least to to me. I'm starting on an old XEON workstation build with an E5 or dual E5 V4s and 64 GB of DDR4 ECC memory that is dirt cheap. It's going to be a learning experience where I'll eventually move to a modern CPU and hopefully, taking this video card with me, or at least being able to recoup a decent amount toward the next card.

My rtx 3080 plays Cyberpunk2077 with my 10th gen i7-10700k perfectly. The only time i had issues was when my cpu's aio pump went out. But once i got my new aio (and a better case as my INWIN 303 wasnt idea for 360 radiator mounting was limited in the 303 to a side frame in the case where my psu blocked 25% of the radiator) my new case which allowed top and front mounted radiator mounts give way more options. I mounted it up top and used the front part of my case for 3x 120mm fans. With a nice 140mm exhaust fan kept my cpu under 30c to 39c at idle and when playing Cyberpunk2077 it went up to 67 to 77c. In the INWIN 303 my temps would be 57c at idle and 90c at load.. im just thankful my msi z590 ace gold edition gave me a (cpu temp is high) warning. This persisted until i figured out the aio pump went out on my MSI 360 aio.

I came from using a 3060 12gb to a 4080s although coupled with core i7 7700 at the moment, will later get a 7800x3d, but at the moment 4k gaming with some newer titles only possible with frame gen between 40-60fps, ray tracing at 4k/2k/1080p is a bit low in fps roughly with framegen, this is with titles such as cyberpunk, witcher 3, diablo 4, BUT some games in 4k at 60fps with vsync as I have 32inch 4k 60hz monitor and a tv with gsync compatability at 4k 60hz, tekken8, sf6, mk1, these games run smooth and look great, mostly latest fighting game titles. I think a CPU upgrade would really be the conversation and then looking at compatible higher refresh rate monitors for the gpu. I think an entire PC overhaul just to move up from a 3060.

I like looking at these videos been looking for a gpu for awhile. All things considered i got a 1070 TI when it was around 500 dollars a long time ago. So its not like even the cheapest options wouldnt be a massive upgrade for me. Gpu still going strong but definately can tell some games are a bit scuffed looking. Still can run new titles like the newest ratchet and clank game with not a lot of issues. Did get the occasional lag or frame drop so its probably a good sign I need to look for an upgrade. But apart from new games, performance is still pretty good and obviously if you have no desire to play new games the 1070 ti will do the job.

If you need a 4K Raster Blaster get the 7900XTX For everything else get the 4090 if you create or don't want to buy another gfx card for 7 years. Or 4080 S for gaming with RT, second best creation ability. Or below that just get what's best for your budget from AMD or Nvidia. As for VRAM this is highly debatable. Are you going to use upscaling? Target should be above the current gen consoles but not by that much. E-sports high refresh rate gamers don't need more than 12GB. 4K single players could use 16-20GB (depending on how well optimized devs make the game) However in the 7900XTX's case who's to tell if the core would be the bottleneck in the future instead of the VRAM buffer.

I have a 170hz monitor and I find myself needing a 240hz monitor at this point for my shooter games. It would be comfortable at 4k 144hz I’d imagine- just not max settings. It also struggles with raytracing and frame generation and get incredibly hot when doing so, but I don’t need all that junk anyways.

Even from Germany I like your videos and watch various ones to get updated about hardware and its best combinations. This one is really great especially regarding the price to performance chart. But what I think is really missing here is a chart about the power consumption. How many watts I need to get one fps. With increasing costs for electricity and as a heavy gamer I am more interested in this figure. Maybe 50 bugs upfront can save me 200 the next 2 years. What do you think?
@stever7638
@stever7638 4 месяца назад
Most cards play everything at 1440P, but they all stink at ray tracing unless you want to pay for a 4090 which will be matched for 2/3 the price soon enough. People need to understand Anti-Aliasing is a HUGE resource and barely needed. The $800+ cards are way under performing for their asking price.
@blackbirdpctech
@blackbirdpctech 4 месяца назад
I think it's important to discuss VRAM in more detail than simply "more is better". For example, for the 40 series GPU's Nvidia significantly increased the L2 cache on their cards, which significantly improves performance because the latency to access cache versus VRAM is much lower. By doing that they reduced the requirement for higher VRAM. There are other important considerations such as memory bus width as well that need to be looked at. And then there is what tools report as VRAM usage ... in most cases a game will allocate VRAM based on how much you have just in case it needs it, but just because it is holding the VRAM doesn't mean it will actually use it. So this is why it's important to actually look at the benchmarks and see which card performs better. The 4070 Super is a great card that beats the 7800 XT in most games ... for gaming efficiency (FPS/$) they are essentially tied, given the lower price of the 7800 XT, so both cards are great options. But you shouldn't simply buy the card with the higher VRAM ... that is not a good way to justify a purchase in my opinion.

What you say is probably right. But this video meant to give an average perspective on the cards relative peformance, sourced from bencmarks on various games regardless of how much VRAM they allocate. This is something the indivdual has to consider and look at specific game bechmarks, to determin what is needed on their gaming level. "More VRAM" is better in the sence of the video's goal, which is to secure a stable framrate and detail level on higher resolutions. Of course 16 GB is not needed on 1080p in most games, but given that a lot of recent AAA titles have shown more VRAM usage (EVEN in 1080p - as mentioned in the video), I could imagine some might consider the buffer in case of a further increase in game VRAM recuirements or monitor upgrade. The 7800 XT might be a better deal to some, because of that VRAM leap, over the 4070 super or even the 3080 12GB which is cheaper and has the same level of average peformance.

the only reason nvidia has such low vram is to make the cards obsolete faster so you can buy the new one faster or so they can sell you the same card twice because it has more vram now.

The Arc 770 drivers are the same ones that are used for Intel UHD integrated graphics, eg for my 13600K. I had no issues running on integrated graphics for a whole year. I finally managed to find a store deal on an msi trio 6800 non xt. It's more than enough for what I use it for, and the AMD Adrenaline software is much better than I thought it would be. The only minor issue I've had with the pc is with it's rog strix power supply, made by seasonic. It sometimes makes a slight creaking sound when in medium use. Only noticeable in a silent room. I thought it was the gpu initially until I realised it was the same noise as when the psu fan button is pressed to start up or stop. From what I can find with seasonic it's quite common with some models as they change rpm or slow down. As for noise in general I've only noticed gpu coil whine once, when I accidentally ran 3d simulation software at over 500fps without limits. Other than that, it's performing well with no issues.

I'm looking for performance rather than quality, i.e. fast responses from the game server, because I play shooters, especially Warface which, although a game with great content, is known to have problems with player synchronization and possibly servers. What can you tell me about the choice made and any settings that would be recommended. My CPU is a ryzen 5 5600x.

Hi Jason nice video and i like how you rework your spreadsheet with GPUs so now base line is RTX 3060 which is very good idea because 3060 is at the top of the steamchart and at least in my country best selling GPU for few years. I am rocking with my MSI GeForce RTX 4070 GAMING X SLIM WHITE at 1080p ( ngl i guess i future proof myself for upcoming years ) and honestly even i could return my 4070 and pick '' lower class '' 4070 super i just don't care about performance too much rn ( if 4070 super has increased VRAM than maybe yes but otherwise i have plenty of room at 1080p )

Hi jason, I'm going to buy a 4070 Ti super for 1440p ultra and ray tracing gaming and my CPU is Ryzen 7700 (none X), can I be sure that I'm not going to get cpu bottleneck with 7700?

Question, in COD MW3 the in game settings Vram max is 8gb. I have a 4090 with 24 gb Vram and a 4k monitor. How do I get the game to use more Vram? Should I increase it in the config file to 1.5 or 2 times the ingame max of 8 gb to utilize more Vram or is the game hard coded to only use 8 gb of Vram.

Higher resolution and using ultra settings use's more Vram

You have 4070 ti super listed for 4k, would it be severely overkill to buy one for 1440p gaming if you just want to spend some extra to possible extend its lifetime before it's needed to be replaced? the price dif isn't that big here in sweden.

I own a 4070TI (basically a few percent weaker than the TI super) and 4080S. The TI kills 1440p (well I play 3440x1440p) with no issues at all. Alan Wake 2, the last of us, Avatar etc all ran very well. It's a 1440p card, not a 4k card, so yeah, it's going to work great :)

I went to Microcenter in December (2023) and bought a used ASUS 4070 Ti TUF Overclocked edition and it feels bad I can’t exchange it for the 4070 Ti super 🥲. Bad timing but it was still an upgrade for me coming from a 2070 super.

Would still you recommend 6950 xt? Some retails have them available new for around $550? Or should I just go with a 7800 xt?

Yes they're still good. Their gaming performance is a little better than the 7800XT but has a higher power draw and doesn't include AV1 Encoding which is good for streaming.

Choosing the 4080 Super over the 7900 XTX is interesting. Is it just basically personal preference at that point rather than performance at 4k?

I'm currently building a travel rig for mostly FPS & Moba gaming while I'm on the road. I got lucky 2 days ago & snagged a 6700XT for $375 after tax. It's hella overkill for what I plan to use it for especially since I'll be gaming on a portable 16" 1440P monitor but I couldn't justify getting the 7600XT over the 6700XT for roughly the same price. 6700XT just stomps the 7600XT in raw performance.
