Honda claims the return to Formula 1 is down to the new engine rules aligning with their carbon neutrality goals, but here's what we believe is the real reason for its U-turn and partnership with Aston Martin.

A new CEO also affects the decision
@joereality1664
@joereality1664 Год назад
This... All the pundits can never seem to understand Honda plays hot potato with their CEO seat thus NOTHING in the company is stable... every couple years there's some panic and a new CEO is elected and directions get changed. It even trickles down to their road cars. It's why the NSX is left the rot, the HSV was aborted and the current 'global' Type R was born just cuz the FK2 project lead really wanted the record at the ring lol

The whole thing is insane. Honda never should have “left” Red Bull and this RBPT shop in Milton Keynes never would have been created and Ford would not be coming aboard RBR as a sponsor. Because that’s all Ford is really doing. Just slapping their name on an evolution of a Honda/RBPT engine. Honda and Red Bull/Newey were a match made in heaven. I can guarantee you, Lawrence is going to throw insane money to try and get Newey to join Aston for 2026 or 2027. Newey re upped with Red Bull on a new contract, but I doubt it’s for more than three or so years on the contract. It hasn’t been published how long his new Red Bull deal is.

The primary reason for Honda's return to F1 was that its major shareholders severely criticized Honda for withdrawing from F1 at the shareholders meeting in February 2021. Because of this, President Hachigo was also replaced by Mibe.

For ones clicking big deal together - it all started with VW dieselgate - it opened gates for "massive" EV direction aim ("to clear dirty image") that also forced rivals to change direction massively. Things have changed a bit since that as ICE got "re-spawn" for future editions (syntetic fuel and such) that allow big companies to re-invest into this field, including engines for top-tier racing category.

They basically become a Honda Works Team. Then they get to work directly with the engineers on how the engine/trans bolts to the body and how the suspension bolts to the engine/trans. It also helps for the packaging of the cooling, etc. They buy and engine/trans/suspension that's built for a Merc. Merc says that'll be X amount and have a nice day. Then have to work everything around the supplied parts.

Japanese motor manufacturers were in the gun for going broke with the advent of serious EV manufacturing happening. The Greenies were Leaning hard on fossil fuel cars so Honda decided to leave. That hit their advertising influence badly so getting back into F1 albeit in a cheaper position puts their name back into the field of performance. Being smaller than Toyota they need the exposure of motorsports … in a way they have taken a lifeline and got back into F1 ….
