In our family, when we say grace, even though someone else has already started eating, we say, "We thank you Lord for that which we have already begun to receive...." It makes everyone giggle, and if you can't talk, share Joy, joke, and laugh with God, who can you do those things with?

Chiming in again real fast to suggest coarse salt and a lemon for the cutting board. Sprinkle the board with a good amount of the salt (I'm sure regular table salt would be fine too) and scrub the salt in with a lemon that's been cut in half. I've heard this before and confirmed with Google. Worth a try! 🍋

Ron, you are fortunate. I belonged to a re-enactment group where the Captain often disciplined the young troops with a bite of sardines. Personally I never had to undergo punishment for infraction of rules, but I like fish. I used to keep a can of kippered herring in my haversack. A few of the younger guys kept a pop tart or two in theirs and claimed it was hardtack biscuits.

I heard from another channel that talks about life in the middle ages that they would wash their wooden bowls, etc with soap and water, sometimes vinegar then place everything out in the sun for hours. It did the trick of keeping everything clean and no bacteria. The pastries are made with a small metal mold that resembles a branding iron. You dip the lower half into batter then into oil and fry. Only takes a minute. Then pry them off, let drain, then add powered sugar. Y'all got a save the date yet for a wedding ?? This is the most hinting I have ever heard y'all do ! Please do a wedding for your characters so we can join in. Let us all know and have a wish list ready. Go for some expensive items that we can contribute towards.

Oh and yes ma’am, I love my gravy thick. Otherwise is just sauce 😉 After I BBQ, I have to wash my hair and shower. I smell just like charcoal. I named her Henrietta. I miss living in the country an being in a small farm. Your desserts are called “Rosettes”…..you make a batter…you dip your cast iron Rosetta iron into the batter then quickly put it into hot fat…the rosette slides off of the iron as it cooks…then you lift the fried rosettes out and let them drain. When they are cool, you sift powdered sugar over them. There are different shapes available. There were several manufacturers but many people want to find the vintage Griswold brand. They are a lot of trouble to make so that was really nice of the people that brought them to you. Have fun!

The dessert you received is called Rosettes….basically a Norwegian fried type doughnut. Really a yummy dessert originating from my ancestors😀.

I like how y'all sometimes slip in talks of modern life in these Chew & Chat videos. It really shows that even though you guys love the pioneer days, you havent completely removed yourselves for reality/society. Can't wait for y'all to get a homestead. You guys are perfect for it.

I don't care for the "today" conversations mixed in with the life in 1820's. I would prefer they stay in character. Just because they are in period dress, their modern conversation ruins the effect for me.
