Highly recommended The Gate(1987) really cool little demons design that uses stop-motion puppets and actors in full body suits, using forced perspective in camera tricks to make them look small
Congratulations on 3K subscribers, Katie. Thanks so much for uploading this awesome movie reaction. I love your content so much because it's absolutely amazing, and I really enjoy watching your reactions to different movies.
I would recommend reacting to Critters 2: The Main Course to celebrate Easter. Critters 2 takes place around the Easter holiday, and the Krite eggs from the end of the first movie hatching do play a big part of the chaos that follows. It's a great one and really fun, like this one. Plus, the effects take a huge step up because the Krites in Critters 2 are done by The Chiodo Brothers, who did the effects for Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Ernest Scared Stupid, and, oddly enough, the Large Marge stopmotion scene from Pee-wee's Big Adventure.
As a fan of the Netflix series "Sense8", I was blown away when I realized that the main villain (Whispers) was Johnny Steele from Critters! (Terrence Mann)
Dungarees = Bib-overalls (for those of u in the U.S.) Never underestimate the education u’ll receive on this channel. The lovely and gracious Skele is giving the knowledge away for free. For those of u in the U.S. Navy pre-1999, dungarees envoke a different visual.
Hahaha I forgot my American friends don't say dungarees! I think over here it's weirdly specific? Overalls - fabric (or soft material) Dungarees - denim (or more durable)
Actually, Critters started the creative process quite a while before Gremlins. But Gremlins was released first. This is why people get confused and sometimes refer to Critters as a Gremlins clone. It is in fact simply a case of convergent thought., to an extent. Like how the thylacine is a convergent evolution to the wolf. As someone from Kansas, I can say that there'd be a lot more people with guns turning Krites into swiss cheese.
A fun movie connection to this... in the 1990 Ninja Turtles movie, Raphael goes to a movie to blow off steam, when he leave the movie, he looks back at the poster, revealing he was just watching Critters... and says "Yeesh, where fo they COME UP WITH this stuff?!" 😂
So happy you've finally seen this! I knew you'd love the design of the Krites. You get to see more of them in the other movies. Charlie (The town drunk) becomesa main character in the franchise and it is amazing. Happy to hear you'll continue the series! Another series I think you'd be into is The Puppet Master franchise. They get very, very weird lol
ive seen critters 1-4 but i havent seen the 2 newer ones the latest being in 2018. but the one thing i love is the single moments when it's just the critters on screen and no humans and you see them playing around with the human property including assuming a E.T plushie is real. they had similar scenes like that in the other films my favorite is in part 3 which i've personally nicknamed critter's thanks giving because they're in a kitchen i wont say anymore because i want you to experience that scene for yourself when you do see part 3 it's one of my favorite scenes.
Great reaction, Katie! Boy, what a wash of nostalgia for me. I bet I haven't seen a Critters film in 30 years, and even longer for this particular one. Here's hoping your health improves, and then stabilizes. Be good to yourself.
Critters was actually being developed before gremlins was. It spent a good bit of time in development hell. The second critter movie is one of my youngest memories of horror movies. It and tremors. Made me scared of letting a limb hang off my bed. Fear of what was on the ground or under it.
Had to check her filmography. It’s crazy she took such a passive roll after being in Hills have eyes, the howling, and Cujo. Even E.T. Girl was a bamf single mom.
"I never see a man in dungarees these days." Oh, I have an uncle who's worn them since somewhere in the 1960s or 70s. A farmer & construction worker in the Ozarks his whole life, of course.
I hope some day you may watch Terrorvision , Curse 1987 , Ghoulies and House 1985 ( of course if you haven't seen them already ) . Critters is a fun one . In my opinion i feel the second one is better, more campy . Love your reactions .
Nice glad you enjoyed this one too /the critters sequels are equally corny but enjoyable the second one stands out as being really entertaining and includes returning characters. Some recommendations that might be similar 1.killer clowns from outer space 2.fright night 3.the toxic avenger 4.swamp thing 5.C.H.U.D. 6. Leprechaun 7. Troll (1980s) 8. House (1985) 9. Monster squad 10. Dont be afraid of the dark
This was a standard of our Halloween get togethers as a kid/young adult. A friend of mine found this absolutely hilarious. Specifically the scene at 16:30. Full ROTFLMAO. 🤣 Also, I'm loving the use of the Morrowind soundtrack lately.
This was a favorite movies to rent while in college in the 80’s. “Critters 2” is also pretty good. This goes in the same category as the “Tremors” franchise and “Eight-Legged Freaks” for campy fun!
Figured youd like this one. 🤘 THE GATE (1987) is another great creature feature with lil monsters. Its also one of the best "heavy metal horror" movies that uses the 80s "satanic panic" about metal as a plot point. Oh, and another fun heavy metal horror film is "Trick Or Treat" (1986), not to be confused with "Trick R Treat" (2007) which is a great litttle horror anthology.
Another film in this era which you may like is a film called munchies. As for critters, I think there are 5 films. Criters 1 to 4 then 1 reboot some years ago.
Hi Katie hope things get better for you Firstly you Critters Art is Awesome Well a lovely reaction as always certainly a film to get your teeth into forgive the pun Well an other Dee Wallace Stone film A good film to put on your list with her in it is Wes Cravens The Hills Have Eyes the original that is not the remakes Did you recognise Billy Zane he would later play the villian in Titanic The script for Critters was apparently around before Gremlins I like them both You take care Very Best Wishes Katie
I think I've only seen the remake of the hills have eyes but it was sooo long ago I'll have to watch!! 💙 Best wishes too and thank you for the support as always Steve!
This was part of the good ole days when they made movies just for fun. No deep thoughts. Just angry tribbles with rows of teeth swearing and rolling about, eating everything.😛😛
This takes me back to my childhood 😊 also the Munchies was a funny movie although not nearly as good as this.. definitely recommend the Ghoulies films though
This was a fun one, your definitely gonna love the second, much like Gremlins 2 they went over the top for the second. This one and the second are the best, part 3 has Leonardo DiCaprio
What incredible timing, I was literally just thinking about this movie and was hoping you'd post a reaction soon. Katie, I am sorry that life and your health have hit a rough patch. I can empathize as things have been a bit rough for me as well. My struggles have inspired me to start reading again however. I've delved feet first into the incredible nonfiction novel "The Occult" by Colin Wilson. Within a few pages Wilson quotes famed Occultist and medium Dion Fortune whom suggests that when our psyches are beset by misfortune, failure, and suffering; we become more prone to negative "forces". I could not agree more, as it seems that when I am feeling depressed, negative events tend to occur more frequently in my life (I have some really odd instances that do reinforce this notion). While that may seem a bit esoteric, I've been trying to bolster my attitude and prepare my subconscious for the great battles that lay ahead. I thought I'd share this because you seem like a person that would benefit from the philosophies and advice Wilson presents in "The Occult". I really do hope you feel better and that good things come your way... I have been a massive fan of "Critters" since I was knee high to a grasshopper. While people may call it a ripoff of "Gremlins", it is not. Both movies were in production around the same time, and the shared similarities owe more to coincidence than anything else. I know you'll love this one and I'm excited you get to share another 80s classic with all of us!!!! "Critters 2" is excellent as well, and I think I will have to do a "Critters" series rewatch in preparation for your reaction. (Only up to part 2 though).
The timing sounds like fate to me! Hope you enjoy, and honestly The Occult sounds like my kind of thing my mother always says "things come in threes" and they always seem too indeed. I'll have to check that book out because that's a sentiment I agree with. It's why I find it important to change your perspective to a more optimistic one and see how some things can be a blessing in disguise. Critters to me doesn't seem anything like gremlins honestly! I understand the inspiration but comparison is a bit much, they're entirely different and I enjoyed them both so much
@@skeletalk It's funny because the entire introduction of the book is all about "coincidence" and why it's important to be mindful of things that seem coincidental. It was a nice "coincidence" then that this reaction showed up when it did 😉. I do think a lot of people dismiss the "power of 3" as quackery, but again, Wilson presents some very concrete ideas of why things like "Tarot" , the "I Ching", and numerology represent some very real and "primitive" human truths. I say primitive in the positive sense, because our ancestors were aware of things that we have lost because of modernity, and the suppression of what our spiritual selves know to be true. Not to say that science isn't wonderful, but it's also important that we don't throw out the baby with the bath water. Personally, I know I have struggled with the dragon of material reality at the expense of my spiritual nature, and that has been detrimental to my own mental health....Anyhow, Have a wonderful day Katie and I can't wait for a "Critters 2" reaction which I think is better than the first film! (Everyone will say it, but let me be the first: Dee Wallace was also the mom in E.T.)
😘Thank you for reacting to this movie (it was my first horror movie when I was very little) 10:10 the red glowing eyes have always scared the 💩 out of me... not a big fan of the sequals though😒... 🤔And yeah the animatronics and puppetry is not nearly as good as Gremlins, but still I like Critters😁... 4:51 was the coolest part of the movie. And the song 'Power of the Night' is an awesome song!🎶🤟😆🤘... and 16:27 was the best part of the movie.🤣
Fun film that I haven't seen in years, I should watch it again soon. Also I think there are like 7 films now, but I wouldn't bother with the modern ones, utter crap.
Just a minor correction, the music you use is from Skyrim not Morrowind. It took me forever to figure it out, before I looked at the drop down info, I thought it was from Oblivion since it sounds so similar to a few of that game's songs. Anyway, Critters is the most successful of the Gremlins knock-off films. There are multiple other films that tried to cash in off of the success of Gremlins, but the only good one and most memorable is the film Critters. It's sequel is good too, it recognizes what it is, and so it doesn't take itself seriously at all.
Hi Katie so glad you enjoyed watching this fun film and yes the second is worth watch but after that they are okay but not on the same level as the first two but that's me you may love all the Critter films, also would love to see you react to Ghoulies it's a low budget horror film but I think you would enjoy the practical effects of the film, and if you haven't seen it yet would love to see you react to the first Predator film you would definitely enjoy the design of the creature in that film, and Red Dwarf is the best Sci-Fi comedy ever made in my humble opinion I quote it all the time in my everyday life along with Blackadder, And if you can find it there is a documentary called In Search of Darkness, it's a set of films that explore the lasting impact of horror films from the 1980's and why we as humans love it so much, they talk to many people from the horror industry but most notably John Carpenter, Joe Dante, Jeffery Combs, Barbara Crampton, Doug Bradly just to name a few, they talk about the films that they enjoyed working on and how the effects have changed through out the decade and which films inspired them to get into making horror films in the first place.
Fun fact: The creation of Critters actually predates Gremlins, but Gremlins beat them to release,so everyone considers it a Gremlins ripoff dispite it coming first.
Critters feels like someone made the critter dolls and said "I should make a movie about these." The plot is somewhat similar to "terrorvision" but this is more tame than terrorvision's raunchier storyline. With regards the dungarees, perhaps the farm life might not suit you but Dexy's midnight runners might suit you.
Every time I see them rolling along, I am reminded of the toys called 'Popples' -- remember those? Like stuffed animals with a marsupial pouch, but you could invert the pouch so that it turned into a plush ball.
Yet another in a long line of horror creatures that have chased Dee Wallace in an 80s film! The Critters are not quite as adorable as gremlins (IMHO) but I love this franchise nonetheless. The 1st Critters has an oddball winning combination of alien bounty hunters, goofball handyman Charlie, a classic Middle American nuclear family, and demented evil puppetry. The sequels have a handful of the same cast members, and the 3rd Critters actually stars a very young Leonardo DiCaprio. Truth is stranger than fiction...
If you've ever read the Edge Chronicles book series by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell, the creatures that are Wig-wigs in that book series are inspired by this movie.
Nice reaction, like the blue hair. Hey since you like horror and awesome practical effects I highly recommend you watch Child's Play! Totally worth it and a great franchise like Halloween, Freddy etc. I think you'll like Chucky!
