This week we're back on the Mitsubishi Magna Ralliart... scoping out the car in more detail and working out if there are any additional issues which need fixing. We're also pulling the interior for a deep clean to try and reset things and make the car feel fresh and new (hopefully!).
Everything is just a little bit different to the Fords I know and love, but that difference is also quite refreshing and I am looking forward to learning more about the car and becoming more comfortable with it! #motoringbox

I owned a TF Magna and then went to a KJ Verada. Both fantastic cars. Also worked for a major car rental company that went from a large fleet of Commodores, then in the early 2000s we introduced the Magna. Absolutely no issues with a huge fleet of them. My favorite car in the Magna family from that era is the Verada GTV. That thing was stunning.

@@froggy0162 I'm gonna disagree with you Froggy, the TL was the ugly duckling of the third-gen Magnas. That said, I have one. Hey Sean. Little tip since this isn't your daily driver, and you're in QLD. high pressure those seats! Don't even bother with the Bissell (As much as I love my little unit) Swing past bunnings and get a drill brush set for about $20. Some orange Agent by Bowdens Own from Repco/SCA. Soak the seat in orange agent and aggitate with the drill brush, and then blast it with a high pressure cleaner. Will be done in about a tenth of the time and it'll come up INSANELY clean

I like the 'Law & Order' approach to the operation. Excellent viewing, my OCD limiter is redlining. Just a thought, in most cases, simply swap the passenger & drivers seats over as the passenger is generally better. Also, if you pick up a seat from a wrecker, the seat base and back rest seperate, allowing you to create the best option, keep or sell the spare. This process has afforded me excellent quality bucket seats in many of the older Falcons I have owned. I'm sure this is no secret to you, but it may help a few viewers.

6:45 honestly my first thought was an elephants condom. Also about the shampooing, I remember having the best luck at a dealership I worked at for a while where we would take the seats/carpet out of the used cars the dealer was getting ready to put on the lot. And we would use a pressure washer before shampooing. Spray some high quality all purpose cleaner or upholstery friendly degreaser, and then spray the seats/carpet with a lower pressure as to not damage the material. Afterwards I'd recommend taking the seats to some kind of detail shop that has access to high quality shampoo machines, It really does make a world of difference using an industrial sized machine with a high quality steel extractor. I think you'd be shocked at how good the seats would look after that

I’ve bought a couple of cars with seats like that, and I’ve found the best approach is simply clothes washing liquid, a scrubbing brush and the garden hose. The trick is you need to have a couple of really hot days to do it because you soak the seat foam all the way through and it will never dry out on anything less than a couple of 35 degree days. A summer only job. But that deeply embedded filth like simply needs a lot of water to flush it out….

I used to work on one of these back in the day (3.5 litre 5 speed)... The thing used hammer... The lady who owned it was called Mrs Palmer 🤣... It was funny one day at work when the boss asked me if I could drop Mrs Palmer home 🖐️ 🤣🤣🤣... It was so hard to keep a straight face... One thing these cars had was two different types of spark plugs fitted to them... They had standard spark plugs in the front bank and platinum spark plugs under the intake manifold in the rear bank... You used to do the front plugs as required and you would change the rear spark plugs every 100,000kms... It wasn't a bad job... While you had the intake manifold off you would clean the throttle body and intake manifold etc... If it needed a rear rocker cover gasket you do one of those as well while you were in there... Keep up the good work Sean and🖕the haters.

I had a set of Evo 9 Enkei wheels that just had a little lip damage so I stripped the tyres off and carefully blended the damage out with a file and dremel tool. Went most of the way around to stop the scalloped look so it looked good and factory...(Could even get them professionally machined too but if you want to save a few $$) I masked them up and painted and clear coated them (just the lips too not the whole wheel as they looked great still. They still look great 8 years later on my daily drive. Seats look a million times better... woah they were filthy. Keep up the great work.. this beast deserves some love! Heater core isn't a hard job just time consuming. take heaps of pics as you go. shame as the orings are a couple of bucks each and that's generally why they fail. You don't need to degas the aircon either... you'll see. :)

I had a 2000 midel Verada, best car I ever owned. Clocked up 300000klm in it. Only did 2 timing belts and a few oil changes. Never broke down and I was getting 7.8l per hundred out of it on the hwy.

while i will miss the Falcon content, I'm really looking forward to this new chapter on the channel! the seats immediately looked better even wet after that clean too!

Nice work! For what it's worth I love the stock wheels. If you do consider the roof liner down the line I had mine redone in black and it was such a cheap mod that made the car feel so much cleaner. Please use Amanda's songs for the rest of the Magna series 😂

I'm excited. Nothing like cleaning the previous owner's dead skin cells and body fluids out of the interior so that you can touch surfaces without wearing gloves 😄. Those seats looked a bit like pub carpet before you attacked them! ✔😊

Hey mate, good job.. always good to get that sense of achievement looking at the end result👍 you might be able to buy some dye for the black part of the trim to eliminate that greyness from it??

It was some leftover human slime I had missed - I have hit them with the wet vac a few more times since then and they're looking a lot better 👍

Love this car, you inspired me to buy an AU fairmont ghia for my first car. It's going great so far!

@jimmynoodepickle. Great stuff, he also inspired me to finally buy an NC Fairlane as my first "classic" earlier this year, so he's doing a great job. Cheers!

Great choice mate. They need their fair share of maintenance to keep them ticking, but they're good fun 👍

When it comes to resto work on a car, I've always been a fan of the unmodded stock daily driver type resto. Basically the way it was, within reason of course, when bought new. As such I'd say sort out and use the original rims, and keep the rest as stock as possible.

I like the unmodded look, but with a few little surprises hidden away.

Peter Anderson pulls the seat covers off and chucks them in the washing machine. It seems like a ton of work, but he gets good results. If you still end up with residual staining that might be an option. As long as there's no airbag in the seat side bolster that is. If you did that you could even get some red dye from spotlight and try to recolor the seats. Excited to see where this car ends up. I'm sure you'll do a good job.

I'm a massive old Falcon, later Commodore bloke.....I have bought a Veradas & 380VRX and I think the Mitsi's are a great car with plenty grunt....not forgetting to mention their A/C is the coldest.

Thanks another interesting video, enjoying the Magna coming back to life. If you are going to paint the Mighty Magna, you may as well paint the wheels.

Those interior plastics are so easy to replace on those things. Fitting stereo equipment is also easy as, and the factory speaker wires are quite beefy so adding an amplifier is no issue. I'm sure you would find factory tweeters to replace the missing ones but I'd recommend aftermarket speakers because the original ones are just paper. (Stereo fitter of 22 years here!)

Haven't investigated the tweeters yet - would you happen to know which model or size they are?

Subbed for some magna love! I think the stock wheels and lowered on some quality coilovers will be mint. The original suspension will be flogged.

AC fan resistors often go on these too, if your AC is only cold on max fan that’s the problem, steering racks can leak too, check your brake fluid too, mine boiled coming down my tambourine
