Great vid again Lorna! I haven’t had a chance to watch whole way through yet but just wanted to say I do agree with the experience someone else had mentioned they had at Raystitch. I live nearby, so go there often and about I’d say 20% of the time I get a friendly face. It is a beautiful shop though and I can’t get enough of their fabrics. Can’t wait to finish the vid this evening! X

Hello ☺️ that's such a shame about Raystitch. It makes a real difference to how you feel in a shop. They do have beautiful fabrics, but need to work on their atmosphere by the sounds of it. Glad you're enjoying the video so far, thanks as always 🥰

Happy New Lorna and what a lovely start to see a video from you! Of all the projects you have made in the past year. I have to say my favourite has to be the Etta dress in the block print fabric. From the moment I first saw you show the fabric and every time sine when you show it in a video I always enjoy seeing it. Glad all is going well with the retreat plans. Take care until next time, Sophie.

Happy New Year, Sophie! I'm glad you enjoyed the video ☺️ I do think the Etta is very lovely make - sometimes a fabric and pattern just seem made for each other! I hope all is well with you and you're having a good start to the new year xx

This was the first time I stumbled upon your channel but I’m definitely going to have a little look at your previous videos! I really liked the style of the garments in this video and they seem to be very similar to my own style/own makes. I was wondering about the cropped cardigan and if it would be possible to achieve the wanted extra length through blocking so you wouldn’t have to undo all that binding?
@threadandyarn
@threadandyarn 6 месяцев назад
Hey, I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊 it's a good idea about blocking. I think it might be just a little too much length I want to add, but I'm very tempted to avoid all that unpicking! Thanks for the suggestion ☺️

Hello Lorna! Since you really seems to like the Etta dress and also have experience with the Zadie jumpsuit I wonder if you mind answering a question. I can't really make up my mind about which pattern I should go for. I want to make the Etta dress, both for wearing as it is and for layering in winter. As you say, it seems to be a very well drafted pattern with fine details. But I also want a Zadie jumpsuit and since this pattern now have a expansion pack to make it into a dress I'm also thinking about this one. Then I can get both the jumpsuit and the dress pattern that is quite similar to the Etta dress. Although, I think I prefer the non sleeved bodice on the Zadie. Please! Help me out! Or should I just go with both?😏
@threadandyarn
@threadandyarn 6 месяцев назад
Hey Julia ☺️ it's a hard choice, they're both lovely patterns! They each have their advantages though, so I'd say it's eventually worth getting both :) the Etta is probably smarter with its lined bodice, but the Zadie is very versatile. I think they're both great for layering. I'm tempted to suggest starting with the Zadie because it gives you more options. Have fun with whichever one you choose ☺️

You mentioned underwear and jersey knit; do you use a coverstitch machine for those?
@threadandyarn
@threadandyarn 6 месяцев назад
Hi Patti 😊 I used an overlocker machine. I have used my regular sewing machine for seams in the past with various zigzag stitches, but I prefer the finish on my overlocker. It doesn't have a coverstitch function though, so I do have to finish hems with a zigzig.

Hey Lorna, how do you 'fix' your colours for your natural yarns? I've been hesitant to begin because I heard from a friend that the colours fade eventually.
@threadandyarn
@threadandyarn 6 месяцев назад
Hello ☺️ it is the nature of natural dyes that they can fade a bit over time - this is mostly done by washing and sunlight. There are some dyes which are known to fade quickly ('fugutive dyes') like colours from berries, beetroot and red cabbage. There are others which are more 'colourfast ' and 'lightfast' - indigo being one of the best of these in my experience. There are also a range of mordants you can use to prep the fibres to help colours enhance and bond. I mostly tend to dye yarn though, and very rarely wash a wool garment unless it's socks. Even then I do a cool hand-wash and dry outside when it's not sunny. I find hanging outside on a windy, cloudy day freshens most knits and preserves the dye for longer. It's something I've accepted, and enjoy their colour change over time. I've found indigo and cutch to barely budge in colour though ☺️ this is now quite a long comment so I'll aim to do a video I think!!
