Oh my goodness, Lorna 🤗🥺 I always love seeing that you have a new video on an afternoon where I can put it on whilst I'm working on commissions, and it was such a surprise to hear my name pop up! Thank you so much for your lovely words and for shouting out the book, I appreciate that so much. Continuing on with the video now but so so nice to see you mending and you've chosen such beautiful patches for your garments xx

This was such a lovely episode! A few years ago I helped set up a repair cafe to encourage and facilitate mending of all sorts. I’m absolutely no expert but it was a lovely thing to be involved with, until life changes and pandemic got in the way. You encouraged me to go and mend a dress where I’d caught a pocket in a door handle and ripped to bottom a bit. I’ve stitched a hexagon over the top and wore it out later that day.

I love this. I’ve been mending for a while now, and I love learning different ways to mend. Unfortunately I can commiserate with you about the moth holes… I am sure they are good for some part of the ecosystem but I don’t like them in my wool. I think my favorite part of mending is when I wear the clothing I have mended and touch the mend it is such a happy moment- like I fixed that. Also it’s pleasing texturally.

Yes I know what you mean! I find it so satisfying to put my hand on the mend and feel the different, interesting texture ☺️ I hadn't explicitly thought about that until I read these comments. I had moths so badly in my last house, it's so heartbreaking when they get to your stash! I've hung lavender up everywhere here, though I'm not sure if it has an effect, or just makes me feel a bit better! Good luck with your moth battle ☺️ I'm hoping my mend will make me feel a bit more kindly towards them..

You look so well placed sitting amongst all your accoutrements, it looks so relaxing, like ASMR for the eyes lol. I've got my jumper in a basket at my feet, all it needs is the collar to be knitted and it will be done...I must get round to it..

I’m very intrigued with tossing “too far gone “ clothing into the compost. Never thought to do that. My husband and I wear clothing to death. How do you know what is okay to compost? Isn’t linen that’s been dyed a color a no-no? Thank you for an informative video. Going to need to look for my embroidery book I have for ideas. Or a moth perhaps. I look forward to future episodes as always.

Hey Patricia ☺️ I wouldn't put any clothing I'd bought in the compost, but if it was a fabric offcut from a 100% natural fibre like cotton and linen I would. If anything was printed on (e.g. t shirt logo) I would cut that out, but I don't put any so bought clothes in anyway as they often have poly tags and threads. I'm sure I could look into it a bit more though! Glad you enjoyed the video :)

Make do and mend is fashionable? When did that happen. Ok, I don't follow fashion, but if I buy clothes, I want them to look nice, and then I wear them for 10+ years, and I mend as needed 😂. Much to my horror last year I needed dresses because of a change to my body (stoma) but was to sick to make stuff, never wore dresses before, well not siñce i got married again (20 ish) years, didn't know what size i needed, go you mending your jumpers and the pretty clothes. Life skills, real-life skills. ❤

Thanks Lesley - it does seem to be more popular now, which is good, though I hope it lasts and more people learn these skills and take care of the clothes they have.

Hey Lorna, I'm mending a ochre finely knit merino sweater from COS at the moment. It's a bit tricky but I'm getting there. I find I quite like to put your videos on when I'm working on a sewing or a mending or a project of some kind. ^^ P.s. the irony of finding out I have moths WHILST watching you mend a sweater with a moth... one just flew by. 🥲 noooo... spring cleaning it is
