The announcement of an international football team’s new kit sponsor is rarely a newsworthy affair, rather a humdrum exercise in marketing rhetoric and brand spiel.
Ostensibly, at least, that seemed to be the case in July, 2018, when Puma revealed plans to manufacture the official livery of the Israel Football Association (IFA).
But the announcement was actually loaded with drama in the way it fed the enduring division that exists between Israel and Palestine, as has been proved in the ensuing months.
Because the sportswear brand are currently at the centre of a global #BoycottPuma movement, standing accused of “sportwashing” the alleged human rights abuses of the nation they sponsor.

@@StoutProper Any company would think about its profit. Puma saw something in Israel, so they sponsored them, simple as that. It doesn't mean they are pro Israel, necessarily. That's like saying if Apple set up a store in Pakistan, India should be revolting against and banning Apple. That would just be outrageous.

You can be a country that throws gay people off buildings to their death, let women be victims of horrible crimes against humanity including get beaten to death by 20 men(and them go free), etc etc but as long as it isn't Israel, no one cares. My message isn't about who I do or don't support, but the blatant hypocrisy among these types are astounding.

There have been calls from groups around the world to pull the WC from Qatar, due to the way they treat migrant laborers to build their stadiums, calls to stop F1 going to Bahrain, stop countries from participating in sporting events in Saudi Arabia and other countries in the middle east with poor human rights records. Unfortunately, Israel deserves to belong on this list of pariah states.

Yes, people complained about Qatar(which hasn't happened in a while now), but no one is attempting to put it into LAW to boycott them over that. The BDS movement has made such strong in roads in politics, that its now apart of discourse in North American politics as well as in the UK. No one is really suggesting these things towards Qatar or most, if not any other nation over there, except Israel. That's the major difference.

I don't see anyone wanting to Boycott Nike for sponsoring the Saudi Arabia and the Chinese national teams (two human rights abusers), and It makes sense, they are just a sponsor, Nike shouldn't be held accountable for the horrors that happen in China and Saudi Arabia, the same way we shouldn't attack Puma for just sponsoring the Israel national team.

This video is sadly super biased, it shows the opinions of Palestinian as facts, and no counter responses by Israelis, and it shows the Palestinian narrative of the conflict as fact, but fails to mention important facts about how Israel only gained the disputed land from JORDAN when it got attacked by Jordan and the rest of the Arab countries around and surprisingly won. The fact that Israel is a ring-wing nation and predominately Jewish somewhat gives license for the media to critique yet Islamic countries are not scrutinised in such a way. In a video about jerseys for Israel, meanwhile Iran has their entire economy embargoes, for years now, not just a demand or threat, it's happening, that's a whole different magnitude. And reports about Mohammad Bin Salman ordering the murder of WaPo reporter Jamal Kashoggi were in the news for months, Saudi Arabias treatment of women, denial of free speech or involvement in Jemen war is in the news for years now. Qatar, who got the WC 2022 is being criticized for their labour conditions, corruption, as are many other Arabian countries. I could go on and on and on, the list of bad news stories on muslim countries is very long, Egypt, Libya, Pakistan and co are in the news all the time. I am not saying, these criticism are not fully deserved, most of them are, the amount of criticism that Israel has to face by comparison is tiny. And no, there is absolutely no hypocrisy in calling out bad actors, no matter what country or religion.

Hamza Ahmed the BDS movement as a whole (which is made up of the parts such as Puma pulling out or being boycotted) has tangible effects. It also makes a statement, by supplying the kits you endorse them, by not supporting them, or now in Puma’s case, pulling out, you indirectly condemn their actions. The easier thing for Puma would have been to have never been involved from the start

He quoted Israeli about as long as Palestinian, even slightly more if you include the Schwimmer statement. How is it one sided, if both sides get their say? Or is it maybe, that Israel has no good justification for their actions, that can stand the scrutiny of a reasonable viewer, that is not already on their side. The Arabs refused, invaded, lost, tried again in the 60s and now play the victim. Does that mean Israel is innocent? No they have committed war crimes but so have the Arabs. Seeing as the Arabs have historically always been the instigators in the wars against Israel they pretty much caused their own fate. On the other hand, there's the state of Israel denying it. Just like the apartheid government of South Africa before them. They aren't "picking a side" in this conflict, and I think people who boycott them should stick to their narrative and boycott Nike and Adidas and many many other sportswear brands for producing kits for many other Middle Eastern countries that also violate many many human rights. To get shut down, you have to threaten people or slander people, and even then it rarely happens.
