this is actually a killer video, alot of healers i go to watch who have a tutorial type of video just speak like you know everything and dont actually really tell you anything and just overload you with information. all of these suggestions you have are really really great and ive been thinking about grabbing a heal to main so im definitely coming back to this video when i go to do that thanks alot!

Among the best videos I've ever seen for explaining the class-spec strategy in detail along with the rationale. I took a long time away from retail to play classic. I rolled Discipline Priest for the instant queues and it took me a while to realize why my healing was lower than other healers and I was running oom so early. 80% of the content of this video took me 300+ solo shuffle games to learn and the other 20% was new and helpful to me.

It's about consistency, doesn't matter you do 1 good game if you mess up the other 9 still blaming your teammates. The more consistent you play, the less mistakes you make and the more you win overall.

Hey Xar, One thing I wanted to throw your way to try out on burst rotation. I do not like to mind games first. You are much better to Schism into 2x mindblast and Mindgames last. When you mind games healers usually dispel which removes PTW and makes you reapply to get expiation. So Mindblast first healers won’t dispel and when I made this change my burst went through the roof. Something you could try and let me know. Rest of the guide looks great. This is my preferred spec for RSS. Very consistent.

That first piece of advice is actually VERY IMPORTANT to ANY multiplayer game. People who focus on other people mistakes are never improving!

I’m at 1300 solo shuffles. So many 3-3 games as a healer. Usually 1 dps with 6 wins, one with 0-1 wins. So much fun.

Good video! A good side note is if the enemies are stacked Purge the Wicked spreads to nearby enemies if you penance someone that currently has Purge the Wicked on them. already.

ngl I love watching Xar but one thing i would like to see him bring back is 0 to hero but with a class that he's never played, like a feral or some melee class like a dk

One quick tip....if enemies have kicks available...you damage rotation should be schism -> mind blast -> mind blast ->mindgames. Why? They are highly more likely to kick mindgames instead of mindblast so doing it like this will ensure you will get your mindblasts off before getting kicked.

Loved the video! Would like to see you do this with more classes! Maybe try a class that is really under play like enhancement shaman.

Hey dude discovered this video today, I have gone from 1300 to 1850 in SS. I was playing to defensively. I am not afraid to use my cd's even when my team are at 90% and I know they have popped CD's

I think target p1 -> mouse up // target self - middle mouse // target p3 - mouse down bindings with framesort Self -> middle ... makes more sense. also same with target arena1 CTRL+mup, arena 2 - ctrl+mmid - arena3 ctrl+mdown. btw my CTRL binding is mouse left-down

On the macros it may not be for everyone but on your damage spells I love target of target macros, so you can either attack the guy that your dps is on or you can target a specific enemy yourself. It’s great for trying to throw out some quick damage between heals.

Looking at your own gameplay is all you can do. When I was master in hots this is the biggest thing I saw. The difference between a good and great player is how they treat their team.

Its not necessarily "I'm not playing right either." While the statement is most commonly true, because no ones perfect, the MINDSET that HELPS YOU GROW is "There are things I can learn, predict and, to some degree, compensate for later." Learn, frustration only impedes your progress.

hey xaryu! I've wondering about the macro that switches the spell depending if you target friendly or enemy, i've done the same though the icon does not switch. Any idea how to fix it?

I have healed mostly pve, and been using clique addon. Starting with arena healing i went with the same setup. Super clunky in arena. After trying out target macros i can already tell its waay better, though its gonna take a while to get used to.

Appreciate the video. I really liked the mouse targeting macro, I usually use it for spell casts, but that seems more intuitive for targeting. I'm going to give it a go. Might even do a target macro for alt + mousewheel (or ctrl or shift - whatever is comfortable). When I'm on my healer and I can see some dumb shit happening on the dps side, I curse out loud and get annoyed. But I don't voice that through ingame chat. When I'm on my DPS and I mess up or if I know I didn't, the healer has a go at me through chat and I just think it's toxic. It doesn't help that I start responding, making things worse but I just hate that they're taking the time to say something horrible instead of using that time to say something constructive. I do try to make some calls at the start of the match but some players just gungho and if it works, it works, if it doesn't... oh welll.

Thoughts on taking [Harsh disclipine] + [Twilight EQ] instead of [Divine aegis] + [Aegis of Wrath] when you have the 4 set bonus, more dmg, atonement healing, and 100+k shields that don't decay with big penance? Even 150k+ shield with power of the dark side proc and crits

I actually can't believe that I've been playing disc without noticing that renew reduced shield cd, DOH.

I mean all this really shows is that class/race/spec does not matter at all. It is almost all arena awareness and your basic ability to react to what other players do vs capitalizing on their mistakes. If you know how to react to what they do and they circumstances around it- you are getting 2500 no matter what you play. If you know your trades, if you can actually see and process your UI to see DRs, trinkets and CC then you are getting 2500 regardless. But getting to that floor is very difficult and many players just can’t do it. I know I can’t yet, and I am stuck at 1200. I know the recipe in and out, but damn it I always burned the stupid pie once it is time to cook

Great video! i have a question about renew. Do you prioritize to keep this hot up on all 3 party members or is there any specific time when you press renew on a specific target? Or would you only use renew to reduce the CD of PW:Shield? Does it even do a lot of healing? Is it worth to keep this hot up at all times or not?

So over hearing how easy it is to climb, I tried so hard to play disc priest in solo shuffle but had a bad first few games, first it was because i never healed in arena and thought i had to use all direct team macro heals so of course I tanked in first few games figuring out how to heal, didnt even know I could change a setting for mouseover. See when these pros say they climbed from zero to 2400 it's a straight up lie, they know just as well as the rest of us they didn't climb from zero, the rating might say zero but the mmr says 1500 and they have never dropped below that, well not since the game began anyway when people were still figuring things out. Now here we are and if you lose the first 3-4 games and that mmr goes anywhere below 1200 it's a straight decline, I am putting a heap of footage together showing what use do not see. I have been in streams and asked all of use to tank a build to 0 mmr and show us how you get that back to 3000? I know that use guys can do but that's the video we need to see to learn? PLEASE someone do it for us.When use guys give tips use are giving them on the basis that the other players on the team know what's going on. I have hrs of footage of me playing on my priest and game after game I use every single ability, I am taking breaks tyoing to them telling them to stay on the same target and they ignore me then have the nerve to tell me I am trash after they died in 60% dampening and i have not got a cd to my name? literally players running from me when low health to the point I payed to make my build goblin to catch them faster and i still can't? This is why I think THIS IS THE WORST EXPANSION EVER MADE, SOLO SHUFFLE ISN'T NEW, THEY JUST TOOK THE CASUALS ONLY THING FROM THEM AND GAVE IT TO YOU GUYS THAT HAVE A MILLION PEOPLE TO PLAY WITH? Why can't they put a skirmish shuffle in for us wanting to learn and play new builds? Not like skirmish is an option or we are ever going to get into a 3's arena with actually 3 a side. All use guys playing for 20 yrs really have no clue how the game is about to die because use held it for so long, if they don't fix these things the game u love and make a living off will be gone. People are leaving they have had enough and I am one of them. Now we got the mighty paladin? Of course we do because they are not worried about a balanced game and us having fun they are worried about cashing in on boosts, players are leaving yet blizzard are profiting more then ever but use guys will sit there and say iam wrong and let it die? I don't care I am already moving on it's use guys that will lose out, seriously it's not like there is another game like this you can switch too now

i use scoll too when i play dps ^^ target arena 1 scroll up, 2 push middle of the scroll and 3, scroll down, And the same with ctrl to put the focus 23:30 lol

hmm, this is weird... i use same build but in solo shuffle i really cant cast anything else than purge the wicked, and then either spam rupture shields on their focus or spam heals flash heal. healing through atonement in solo shuffle is imposible for me. in 2v2 and 3v3 yes. but no chance in ss

An issue I got is that I usually open the game with rapture having renew on both teammates. And since low rank most dpa insta pop dmg I barrier And I start popping dmg But nothing happens and my teammates fall over and suddenly I’m slamming heals falling behind anyway

would using heal bot not eliminate the need for basically all the macros you went over in this video?

You forgot to mention the talent that makes your penance shoot extra bolts after 4 consecutive dps casts (smite,MB,solace) Its huge dps (or healing) and definitely worth mentioning, great guide xar
