Even though there have been many changes to OTS since I was commissioned in 1989. This brought back many memories. As you so precisely said you will fail alone. Our flight (2-11) was the only flight to graduate all of our members we weren’t the smartest bunch but we knew how to work together.

This is probably the most informative video i've found on OTS. Thanks so much for this.

@@airforceofficerpodcast the physical training part was great. Especially for older officers like my self that are being direct commission in their 40’s

Some excellent insights here but I’m scratching my head over the hardship of deploying to the UK😂

This question was kind of already touched on, but I’m looking for a little more clarification. What kind communication is allowed during OTS? In BCT you are not allowed to have phones, communication is through written letters.
@airforceofficerpodcast
@airforceofficerpodcast Год назад
you can bring your phone and computer. you’re allowed to call, text, video chat, email, etc. but you won’t have a lot of time for outside communications. best to keep it to a minimum and focus on the task at hand.

Hey sir. Going to OTS next month! I feel pretty prepared, other than the academic. Any way to kinda prep for that?
@airforceofficerpodcast
@airforceofficerpodcast Год назад
your bachelors degree was sufficient preparation. focus on spending time with your family and friends before you leave.

This sounds extremely different from BMT. Is it harder or easier? How would it compare to something like Army OCS?
@airforceofficerpodcast
@airforceofficerpodcast Год назад
apples and oranges. BMT produces junior enlisted. OTS produces officers.

Army OCS is harder in that it is more rigorous and intense. I was introduced to their training early on via ROTC. It's really just a lot more combat oriented and more about direct leadership during STX lanes (which you'll do a ton of) teamwork, etc. Naturally, this makes sense. Not to say Air Force OTS is easy, as it is difficult in its own ways. I'm sure beyond the more combat-oriented intensity, the training concepts might be about the same, like thinking in terms of application vs regurgitation. They just have different missions and branch cultures, leadership styles, etc. I had one leg in on a commissioning program while in the Army but as I was about to ETS, I decided to commission with the Air Force because of the specific career fields vs the Army.

How did you get the opportunity to instruct?
@airforceofficerpodcast

voluntold for Reed. volunteered for Colin. these days it’s done through the Officer Instructor & Recruiter Special Duty (OIRSD) selection board each year.

You said you had two kids. What was it like communicating with your family while you were gone? Is it the same way now?
@airforceofficerpodcast
@airforceofficerpodcast 2 года назад
during OTS it's best to set the expectation beforehand that communication will be infrequent and brief. there's so little time for it among everything else that has to get done.
