I have picked this lock using rakes and picks. I also have the same lock vice as you. I got two bogota rakes yesterday and they work but all other rakes seem to be as good or better.. I'm sure I have a video on this?
I picked up an £8 one of these from Wilko, expecting a brief challenge and maybe something to try out some seldom used picks on. Got zero feedback every single pin stayed springy. After 30 minutes of silently cursing whatever eldritch demons created discus locks, I got a pretty stout z wrench and put a stupid amount of torque on the core. 8 seconds later the lock popped open. I’m still not sure why but I still can’t open it without really stout tension.
I have a five pin lock just like this one and I can't make any progress with it. I'm using a really crappy credit card pick set (that's all I've got) and I suspect that I'm not able to put enough pressure on the tension wrench to even realize once I've picked the lock. How much pressure are you putting on the wrench in this video? Thanks.
how long have you been picking you make it look easy. I've been practicing on my front door and I get frustrated to say the least using the half diamond
I've been picking for about 6 months so far. The thing is, is that you only get to see the locks that I can pick... You don't get to see all the fails. This lock in particular is terrible but your front door lock is probably a higher security lock than you realise. My best advice is start with cheap padlocks and work your way up. Personally, I've only just learnt to pick spool pins on a 5 pin door lock (video coming this weekend!) but I really enjoy the challenge. I'll post picking a branded disc lock next week too.
+Lock Noob I have 1 like that, where locks usually say "hardened" on the shackle it says something in what appears to be russian. it has a strong spring tho
+JB but when you are beginning, you need those 'easy wins' to boost your confidence. Oddly, REALLY cheap locks can be really hard to pick because the core is just so badly made and it doesn't behave like a 'real' one
Have you had any success with a Yale discus lock. A freind of mine gave me one that he said had a "Detent"?? in it. I couldnt open it. Any suggestions?
alamo11 no, I've not had the pleasure of a Yale discus and am not sure what part would be a detent... I do know that Foxxy over at Redcatimaging (RU-vid channel) recently picked one, so go check it out :-) knowing Yale, it probably has spool pins or mushroom pins in it
